Graduate of Stanford, where he majored in philosophy. Now pursuing
doctorate in neuroscience (using fMRI to investigate the neurological
basis of belief) at UCLA after writing a successful book on 'Religion,
Terror and the Future of Reason', which won the 2004 PEN Award for
First Nonfiction.
