The MCU’s The Fantastic Four has been going steadily, with the most recent casting being of Paul Walter Hauser. The Matt Shakman directorial already has a stacked cast with actors like Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Julia Garner, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach playing major characters. John Malkovich and Ralph Ineson also star in the film.
Though most characters have been revealed, one mystery in the casting is that of Paul Walter Hauser. While he did not reveal who he was playing, the Richard Jewell star hinted at playing a prominent villain who was part of the mythology of the Fantastic Four. The hints have led fans to speculate that the actor would be playing the role of Mole Man.

Set in the serene Welsh countryside of Swansea, Pren ar y Bryn, or Tree On A Hill is a psychological dark comedy following an unfortunate series of events in the lives of a middle-aged couple, Clive and Margaret Lewis. Given the rustic location the story has been set in, Tree On A Hill feels strangely nostalgic despite the dark storyline and the quirky characters. This series talks about a lot of things, including the effects of isolation, desperation, fear of change, and the effects moral ambiguity. The story also explores the ideas of superstition and faith in the conservative Christian village of Penwyllt. Cut off from the rest of the country, the characters are living a monotonous life, hoping to leave for the big city, but are burdened with responsibilities. Moreover, as a student of languages, I cannot help but express my fascination with the Welsh language, which in itself...

Animals are everywhere in “Ripley.” From the opening flash-forward to the closing montage, the latest adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels finds furry friends in frame after frame. Far from surplus scenery — Steven Zaillian’s elegant vision of ’60s era Italy does not lack for beauty — these creatures are active characters. A grazing sheep finds a clue. A prowling cat produces a lead. A snake eludes detection inside a pair of loafers — and yes, in this case, a reptile is also an animal because the snake in question is Ripley himself: a slippery, second-rate con man with a cold-blooded stare, slicked-back locks, and vice-like grip on his prey. Embodied by Andrew Scott, Ripley follows a familiar pattern yet takes a distinct shape. He’s older, but not wiser; meaner, but more level-headed; greedier, but almost purely so.
This “Ripley” is a different animal.
First introduced in Highsmith’s 1955 novel “The Talented Mr. Ripley,...

The second season of Invincible promises to delve deeper and deeper into the mind of its biggest villain, Omni-Man. After the shocking events of the first season of the Omni-Man’s unforgivable actions, viewers are questioning whether redemption is even possible for this once-beloved hero turned-villain.
A still from Invincible
In a recent interview, producer Simon Racioppa tackled this burning question. He shared insights from Omni-Man’s journey and emphasized how the superhero’s actions in the previous season portrayed him as a despicable antagonist, leaving viewers skeptical of his redemptive probability.

Ross Valory has dreamed of making a solo album ever since he started gigging around San Francisco in the late Sixties, but other projects kept getting in the way. He was in the process of amassing original songs in 1971 when the Steve Miller Band brought him into the fold to play bass on Rock Love. Later, he teamed up with ex-members of Santana to form the Golden Gate Rhythm Section. Within a few months, they changed their name to Journey.

The Fantastic Four teaser image had a lot going for it, but the surprise that fans have been focusing on the most is the inclusion of H.E.R.B.I.E, the robot assistance that first made an appearance in the 1978 animated series. He was a replacement for The Human Torch, who was not licensed for the television series,.

However, H.E.R.B.I.E’s appearance in the poster implies there is at least going to be some alien involvement in the Fantastic Four film and it will most probably include Galactus. If this version of the Fantastic Four sticks true to the comics, H.E.R.B.I.E will have some Xandarian make in his circuits, which means it is another opportunity to introduce Nova.

Soon to appear in the upcoming live-action feature “Thev Fantastic Four”, the robot ‘H.E.R.B.I.E.’ (‘Highly Engineered Robot Built for Interdimensional Exploration’) was originally designed by illustrator Jack Kirby as his last work for Marvel:

After today's thrilling announcement about the "Fantastic Four" movie finally peeled back the curtain on Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated reboot, only one question remains in the minds of super-fans everywhere: When exactly will this film take place? Previous live-action versions made the choice to set the action in the present day, struggling to various degrees of success in translating the legendary superhero team into more modern trappings. That hasn't always panned out so well, so perhaps Marvel's Kevin Feige would set up this new take on Marvel's first family for success by taking a wholly different approach altogether -- one that hearkens back to the Fantastic Four's comic book origins. The new title treatment and font already hint at a certain throwback tone and sense of aesthetics, but are there any other clues worth paying attention to that might add more fuel onto Johnny Storm's fire?
You bet there are.

Volkswagen of America is marking 75 years in the U.S. with a Super Bowl ad featuring Herbie the Love Bug and a swirl of other pop-culture highlights.
The 60-second commercial (watch an extended 2-minute version above) will air during the third quarter of Sunday’s game on CBS and also on the Spanish-language telecast on Univision. Paramount is charging as much as $7 million for 30 seconds of commercial time on the game, so it’s a sizable investment by the automaker.
Set to Neal Diamond’s 1971 hit “I Am… I Said,” the spot is titled “An American Love Story.” It is directed by Lance Acord, who also directed Volkswagen’s 2011 commercial “The Force,” a popular spot featuring a boy in a Darth Vader helmet. That piece of Star Wars iconography is one of many pop-culture references that fly by as the commercial rolls from the German brand’s arrival on U.

After John Carpenter made "Halloween" in 1978, the director wasn't terribly interested in making a sequel. When it came time to write the screenplay for "Halloween II," however, a reluctant Carpenter sat in front of his typewriter, hammered on beers, kind of at a loss as to where this story was going to go. It was only by mere creative desperation that Carpenter conceived of the notion that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was secretly Michael Myers' sister.
In the first "Halloween," Michael Myers was played by various actors, although mostly by Nick Castle, an old friend of Carpenter's and a film director in his own right. In "Halloween II," Michael was played by a stuntman named Dick Warlock, an experienced performer who appeared in films like "The Love Bug" (he drove Herbie), "Blazing Saddles," and Carpenter's "Escape from New York."

The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 18 took us back to the regular blacklist with a case about an elusive blacklister who targeted Raymond and his associates.
Events took place on two fronts as Raymond tried to get to warring families to declare peace while Arthur Hudson recruited someone unexpected and expected at the same time.
Raymond's campaign for doing good continued, and it wasn't a surprise that he would offer to mediate talks between two families where he stood to gain nothing significant in return.
The best that could happen was that the two sides would stop fighting, and more blood would not be shed, which was good enough for Raymond.
At this time in our lives, Harlod, all I want is as many reminders of the good and beauty this world has to offer.

Be careful not to underestimate your opponent!
This advice went both ways on The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 8 as Wujing sought The Troll Farmer to help steal a cyber weapon.
While downplaying something might give one peace of mind, they should be careful not to minimize the problem so much that it appears nonexistant. Raymond chose that as his option. The consequences might be fatal.
The Troll Farmer's return was disappointing in a single way.
The mission he was enlisted for was quite interesting since it further gave Wujing an upper hand, which was exciting. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. No one makes them fall harder than Raymond.
Social media is scary and cyber warfare is even scarier. At any given moment, people are working behind the scenes to find solutions to nonexistent problems, thus creating a problem.

The Blacklist’s seventh installment of its final season exposes Wujing’s (Chin Han) Plan B. Though the Freelancer, Alban Veseli (Daniel Sauli) found a place under Wujing’s wing in this season’s premiere episode, “The Night Owl,” the former blacklister went to the backburner while Wujing focused on breaking Dr. Laken Perillos (Laverne Cox) out of prison in order to bring Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq) under her power and squeeze information about the Task Force from him.
While it may strike as odd planning on Wujing’s part, perhaps the gaffe of Dr. Perillos is a sign that Wujing isn’t a sociopath. Someone at Disney really loves the Love Bug: Herbie is currently in development as a potential series on Disney Xd, a rep for the network confirms to TVLine exclusively.
The iconic, anthropomorphic Volkswagen Beetle first appeared in Disney’s 1968 film The Love Bug and has been the subject of several movies — including the Lindsay Lohan-fronted 2005 movie Herbie: Fully Loaded. He’s also already been the subject of a 1982 television series, the one-season Herbie, the Love Bug, and a made-for-tv movie.

Watch: The First 'Monster Trucks' Trailer Is Basically 'Herbie Fully Loaded' with Adorable Creatures
Randomly stumbling across Herbie Fully Loaded on TV the other day, a few things stood out. First, how delightful Lindsay Lohan and Justin Long were as fresh-faced teenagers. Second, just how dang charming the Herbie movies were. There's something about teens and a magical car with a mind of its own that just plain works. That formula is also why everything with Sam and Bumblebee is the best part of the first Transformers movie. Now that the first trailer for Monster Trucks is here, it...

That formula is also why everything with Sam and Bumblebee is the best part of the first Transformers movie. Now that the first trailer for Monster Trucks is here, it looks like Hollywood has found the spiritual successor to the Herbie franchise. It also looks like the title is surprisingly literal. It's about a teen whose old beat-up truck gets infested with a monster. But that's not a bad thing. The monster is super cute and apparently gets a kick...

Clean-cut Disney actor who co-starred with cats, dogs, chimps and Herbie the Love Bug
Mickey Mouse apart, the figure who most represented Walt Disney Productions in the 1960s was the clean-cut actor Dean Jones. Jones, who has died aged 84, starred as the bumbling, somewhat bland, hero in five entertaining kiddie movies with animals in the title: That Darn Cat! (1965), The Ugly Dachshund (1966), Monkeys, Go Home! (1966), The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit (1968) and The Love Bug (1968). The last of these starred not strictly speaking an animal, nor an insect, but a white Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own, ostensibly owned by the unsuccessful racing car driver Jim Douglas, played by Jones.
Happily, Herbie – as the cuddly, anthropomorphic auto is christened – helps Jim win an all-important race through the Sierra Nevada mountains against his nemesis, the villainous Thorndyke (David Tomlinson) in his sleek Italian Thorndyke Special. Jones, who did...

Dean Jones, who starred in some of the most memorable live-action Disney flicks of the 1960s and '70s, died in Los Angeles on Monday of Parkinson's disease. He was 84.

I didn't even realize there was a problem. And, believe me, I understand that as problems go, this is not a life-threatening one or a world-altering one… but it's something that finally caught my attention as I realized how we were starting to instill some bad habits in the boys. Rather, they were starting to pick up some bad habits, and I was allowing them to take root. And based on the last column I published in this series, it's definitely something I've encouraged. I love that my kids have a fairly broad palette in terms of what they will or won't watch with me. One of my proudest moments as a film nerd dad was when Toshi had a friend over and I heard him trying to convince his buddy to watch a Charlie Chaplin film. Black and white has never been a problem for them. Abbot and Costello,...

It’s not always the actors that are the stars of a film. Sometimes it’s the car. Here’s our list of the 10 most iconic cars in movie history.
Much like in our everyday modern life, cars are a big part of movies. They have created many memorable moments, been a part of many exciting action sequences, and helped to define characters clearly. Cars are much more than just another movie prop. Sometimes they are part of the cast, and others they are the main attraction.
This list commemorates those cars that went above and beyond simple transportation in a film. These are cars that define a particular movie or character. These are cars that, when seen in real life, conjure up images of their movie counterparts. These cars have infiltrated popular culture and become historic icons of both film and motoring.

Herbie, The Love Bug
Written by Arthur Alsberg and Don Nelson
Starring Dean Jones, Patricia Harty, Nicky Katt, Larry Linville, Claudia Wells
When people speak of the possibility of alternate dimensions, they leave out the one closest to us all. We like to imagine a universe so similar to our own, nearly identical to the world in which we live if not for one difference. Maybe in one dimension, Bill Clinton was ousted from office, not just thrown up for impeachment. Maybe in another dimension, HD-DVD won the high-definition home-media war instead of Blu-ray. Or maybe, in some beautiful reality, Scott Norwood didn’t miss that field goal in the Super Bowl against the New York Giants. The possibilities are tantalizing because they are literally endless. In all the wonder and curiosity, however, most of us fail to recognize that there already exists another universe snuggled up tightly to ours,...

Josh brought his Mousterpiece Cinema podcast to Sound on Sight this time last year, starting by reposting his older podcasts beginning with his very first podcast about Cars 2.
One of Ricky D‘s constructive criticisms for Josh on joining the site was that his best podcasts were the ones where he was joined by a guest like Gabriel Bucsko for their podcast on The Muppets film. Since Gabe actually works in Hollywood (an experience he discussed during the podcast on the cinematic atrocity Disney Animated classic Fox and the Hound 2) he is not regularly available to do the podcast. I volunteered to be a more regular co-host, taking the opportunity of Gabe being around to boycott films I had no interest in watching or re-watching like say the Disney Direct to Video Sequels, Midquels and Prequels, or films I couldn’t get my hands on, or allow me to...

Herbie: Fully Loaded
Directed by Angela Robinson
Written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar & Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant
Starring Lindsay Lohan, Michael Keaton, Justin Long, Matt Dillon
Somehow, I have survived the world of Herbie, the Love Bug. This gauntlet has been trying, but I’ve grown as a person by making it through. Unfortunately, the movies that this magical Volkswagen is the star of haven’t really grown. Even as we reach the finale of the series (at least in terms of those movies that were released in theaters), Herbie is strictly sticking with the formula, racing a few times, changing the lives of the people who drive him, and getting into a few scrapes along the way. The art of the glass shot or matte painting is one which originated very much in the early ‘teens’ of the silent era. Pioneer film maker, director, cameraman and visual effects inventor Norman Dawn is generally acknowledged as the father of the painted matte composite, with other visionary film makers such as Ferdinand Pinney Earle, Walter Hall and Walter Percy Day being heralded as making vast contributions to the trick process in the early 1920’s.
Boiled down, the matte process is one whereby a limited film set may be extended to whatever, or wherever the director’s imagination dictates with the employment of a matte artist. In it’s most pure form, the artist would set up a large plate of clear glass in front of the motion picture camera upon which he would carefully paint in new scenery an ornate period ceiling, snow capped mountains, a Gothic castle or even an alien world.

Herbie Goes Bananas
Directed by Vincent McEveety
Written by Gordon Buford and Don Tait
USA, 1980
I cannot believe that a movie as wrongheaded and idiotic as Herbie Goes Bananas exists. Herbie Goes Bananas is so bad, it makes Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo look like the combined 1940s output of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (better known as The Archers), from The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp to The Small Back Room. In fact, I’m insulting The Archers’ films by even including them in the same sentence as anything pertaining to Herbie Goes Bananas. I could, frankly, spend this entire column cataloguing the many things in the world that are more enjoyable, funny, exciting, and lively than Herbie Goes Bananas. But while it’d be fun…well, I’m not sure how to finish that sentence. Let’s just assume the alternate-universe column where I tell you exactly...

Listeners, it’s finally come to this. After four films starring the rascally Love Bug himself, Herbie, your hosts Josh and Michael have begun to question each other’s sanity. The real culprit is the topic of this week’s podcast, the 1980 film Herbie Goes Bananas, where the supposedly lovable Vw Beetle faces off against scheming thieves, an outrageously horny older woman, a stuffy cruise-ship captain, and a fuming bull. (Absolutely none of that is a lie or a joke. We promise.) For anyone hoping that Michael would, for once, succumb to the Dark Side, you may be disappointed, but you’ll get to hear Josh rage and rant like never before. This one’s an episode for the pantheon, so check out the new Mousterpiece Cinema today!

From the time that “Disney’s Folly” paid off and the first-ever animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, became a hit, Disney (the company that Walt created) has been in the business of telling fairy tales. What we sometimes forget is that fairy tales can be stories that reassure children, but also stories that scare the bejeezus out of them. Case in point, the first film that I ever saw: Walt Disney’s Bambi, a film that also terrified Stephen King as a child.

Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo
Directed by Vincent McEveety
Written by Arthur Alsberg and Don Nelson
Starring Dean Jones, Don Knotts, Julie Sommars
The foundation of any solid relationship is communication. Two people may look like they should fit—they have the same interests, the same friends, they’re both good-looking, and so on—but if they can’t communicate with each other, the relationship is dead before it lifts off the ground. In any form of entertainment or media, it’s up to the author or authors to make an audience care about a relationship in whatever story they tell, whether it’s a successful or unsuccessful relationship. We need to care and be invested in these characters either becoming a couple or breaking away from each other, but we can’t just do that automatically. It’s up to the people behind that story to make us care.

How does anime or manga relate to Herbie the Love Bug? Plus, you’ll also hear about the hideous fashion faux pas on display in Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo. Yes, it’s another silly, wild episode of the show; when Herbie’s involved, this podcast comes alive! Check out the new episode right now–you won’t regret it!
