A new face is about to pop up in Manhattan, Kansas: Olafur Darri Ólafsson is joining the Season 3 cast of Somebody Somewhere on HBO.
Ólafsson will recur as Iceland, the new renter of Sam’s (Bridget Everett) family farm. Production on the seven-episode season recently wrapped in Chicagoland.
From Mighty Mint, Duplass Brothers Productions, and executive producers Everett, Hannah Bos & Paul Thureen, the series follows Sam, a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. In season three, we see growth against all odds.

Dispatches From The Picket Line: Actors In NYC Say Offer From A-Listers Was “Righteous And Generous”
This is day 99 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Actors in New York City nearing day 100 on strike said a polite no thank you Friday to an offer from top stars to fund their health care by lifting the cap on SAG-AFTRA dues — to the tune of more than $150 million over three years — and to rework residual payments to benefit rank-and-file union members.
“It seems like not a good idea,” actor Kathleen Chalfant told Deadline during Friday’s rainy picket outside Netflix offices near Manhattan’s Union Square, in response to a proposal Thursday by A-listers to let their dues rise and, relatedly, to reverse the normal order of residual payouts so that actors at the bottom of the call sheet are paid first.
Union leaders have praised George Clooney and others for “their creativity and earnest desire to help solve the impasse.” But in a letter to members they also said...

FX released the official trailer for “American Horror Stories” Season 3, the spin-off of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s anthology series “American Horror Story.” The spin-off features a different horror story in each episode.
The trailer revealed that “Real Housewives” alum Lisa Rinna will star in the “Tapeworm” episode of Season 3, which premieres Oct. 26. The official logline for that installment reads, “An up-and-coming model will stop at nothing in her hunger for success.” The episode was written by Joe Baken and directed by Alexis Martin Woodall.
“Smize for the camera, sweetie,” Rinna’s character says in the trailer. She later responds to a young patient’s concern about a monster inside of her with the question, “But are you hungry?”
Alongside Rinna, the “Tapeworm” cast includes Laura Kariuki, Hazel Graye and Rob Yang.
From the trailer, it looks like Yang prescribes Kariuki’s model a tapeworm to help her lose weight for her modeling career.

When HBO offered Bridget Everett an overall deal, she never imagined anything would actually come out of it. “I thought, ‘Ok, this is money, but after a year I’m gonna have to go back and just make my live shows,’ ” she says during a lunchtime interview in April to mark, incidentally, the second season of her series, Somebody Somewhere.
The quietly affecting comedy, about a woman who is still struggling with the emotional re-entry to her hometown after her sister’s death, has embodied the kind of success specific to premium cable: critical acclaim, a steadily growing audience and prestige awards (it was just nominated for a Peabody). Everett speaks about it with equal amounts of pride and extreme humility. “We’re a small show, and I’m not chasing any hardware, but I will chase whatever keeps us on the air,” she explains. “I can’t imagine ever...

“Showbiz!” is not only actor and nightlife legend Murray Hill’s signature catchphrase — it’s a perfect descriptor of the besuited Somebody Somewhere star’s Old Hollywood charm.

HBO is heading back to the Little Apple.
The premium cable outlet has renewed Somebody Somewhere for a third season. The pickup comes a few days after the dramedy starring Bridget Everett and set in Manhattan, Kansas, concluded its seven-episode second season.
“We’re thrilled to announce the third season of the honest and impactful Somebody Somewhere,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming at HBO and Max. “Nothing makes us smile quite like this show, which never fails to remind us that life is made up of the small moments, that family can be chosen, and that dreams don’t have deadlines.”
The series draws relatively modest viewership in relation to some other HBO originals, but it’s been a critical favorite. Season one received an AFI Award as one of the top 10 TV programs of 2022.

The episode, titled “To Ed,” followed as most of the cast came together to celebrate Fred’s (Murray Hill) wedding at the old barn where Ed used to spend his time, now refurbished into a picturesque event space by Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison) for the special occasion. In the midst of the festivities, Fred made a speech and called a toast to his dear friend — who was written out of the story earlier in the season following Hagerty’s death, by the announcement he’d gone on a long-term boat trip with his brother.
For series star Bridget Everett, the finale marked the touching end to a season-long celebration of the actor’s influence on the show.

When we hop on a Zoom with Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller to break down Somebody Somewhere‘s sophomore season, of course Episode 5 is high on the agenda, so much so that it catches Everett slightly off guard. “Geez, Nick. Really unpacking things today!” she exclaims.
How can we not talk about Sam and Joel’s biggest rift yet, which spawned feelings of hurt and betrayal between buds. In Sunday’s episode, the resident besties’ friendship experiences its first major bump in the road when Joel finds a new boo (Tim Bagley’s Brad, aka “Sls”) and lies to Sam about it.

HBO’s deliriously charming “Somebody Somewhere” starring Bridget Everett returned on April 23rd. Season one’s critical acclaim, demonstrated by its 100% fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating, is what made it shocking that the show didn’t break into the Emmys last year. The subtleties in both the performances and the writing are entwined with stark relatability, allowing audiences to pick up on every detail because they’ve felt like these characters before or have been through similar circumstances.
Theo Estes (The Spool) alluded to this when he wrote that the series’ “brilliance lies in the way it weaves between the hilarity and drama of the mundane.” That is where the show’s strength draws from, the universality of its themes and the absolute probability that ‘somebody somewhere’ (or perhaps everybody everywhere) will resonate with the material.

In the second season of Somebody Somewhere, HBO's tender and funny series about how it's never too late to find your voice and your people, one of TV's best realized friendships goes through some changes. Sam (Bridget Everett) is still dealing with the aftermath of her sister's death and various family crises, all while leaning on her friendship with the sweetly unassuming Joel (Jeff Hiller). They'll power-walk through the park to get their steps in, partake in a "tiny 'tini" cocktail or two at the end of the day, and try to make sense of the Manhattan, Kansas, folks who surround them. They are, to borrow the parlance of another TV show, each other's "person," and in Season 2, Somebody Somewhere pokes at that dynamic to see how well it holds up.

In the Season 2 premiere of Somebody Somewhere, the storylines were fictional, but the emotions were true to life, as we finally learned how the show would handle the death of actor Mike Hagerty.
Sisters Trisha and Sam reveal that their father Ed (Hagerty’s character) is very much alive and currently hanging out on a boat in Texas drinking beers with his brother. Sam is happy her dad is doing something for himself, but Trisha is annoyed because “the timing sucks.” Their mother Mary Jo has suffered a stroke and is living in a nursing home. HBO’s critically acclaimed dramedy Somebody Somewhere is about to kickstart its sophomore season, and when we ask its star Bridget Everett what viewers can expect, she throws us for a loop.
“Well, Sam is pregnant with triplets,” she tells TVLine with a straight face while sitting side-by-side with Jeff Hiller, her costar who plays Sam’s Bff Joel. But once Hiller starts to chuckle, it’s contagious and all three of us are going. While Sam is most certainly not going to become a mom any time soon, major changes are indeed in store for her parents, Ed and Mary Jo.

HBO’s offbeat comedy Somebody Somewhere stars Bridget Everett as Sam, who’s struggling with doubt and self-worth while trying to find her place in the world after the death of a sister Holly. The first season ended with Sam, who’s back living in her Kansas hometown, crooning two songs that capture the heartfelt series’ unique, idiosyncratic spirit. The first, belted out on a party bus, is hilariously brash and raunchy like Everett’s beloved downtown alt-cabaret shows. In the second, she serenades her newfound bestie Joel (Jeff Hiller) inside a barn on her family’s farm, with an ode to how their friendship helped save her. In Season 2, Sam tries to make sense of her life and works on her relationship with other sister Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison), but “long-standing resentments and secrets get in the way,” Everett says. Still, Sam is figuring out “how to love and let go,...

The second season of Somebody Somewhere is both an absolute delight and an absolute mess. On a basic storytelling level, the HBO comedy has stopped making sense, with an almost aggressive disregard for internal consistency. That’s frustrating because the first season was so well-constructed, guiding an aimless woman named Sam Miller (Bridget Everett) toward an emotional breakthrough that was both beautiful and earned. But as shapeless as they are, the new episodes are also a joy to watch, because they’re mostly about Sam’s relationship with her best friend Joel (Jeff Hiller). The characters have one of the funniest, most generous friendships on TV, while Everett and Hiller’s chemistry makes them seem like actual soulmates. This duo could jazz up a trip to the morgue, and they certainly make it easy to watch seven half-hours of half-baked television.

HBO has released a trailer for the sophomore outing of “Somebody Somewhere,” the critically acclaimed comedy series inspired by the life of star Bridget Everett. Billed by HBO as “a totally platonic love story,” the series will continue to explore love, loss, and acceptance as it focuses on the relationship between Sam (Everett) and Joel (Jeff Hiller), her new best friend who introduces her to a chosen family of self-perceived “outsiders.”
The trailer opens with the duo singing and dancing as they make martinis and reveals that Joel has temporarily moved in with Sam. This new dynamic is certain to provide more heartwarming moments and potential new conflicts as the show’s emcee of sorts, Fred (Murray Hill), is depicted explaining to Sam that, “Families aren’t easy. Not even the fun ones.”

Season one of HBO’s Somebody Somewhere largely focused on lead character Sam’s (Bridget Everett) halting attempts to fit back into her Kansas hometown. The trailer for season two of the series suggests she’s feeling at least a little more comfortable there.
The trailer shows that Sam and Joel (Jeff Hiller) have moved in together — “It’s solely a financial arrangement,” Joel says — and settled into a routine. Sam also takes a few more steps to further her singing, approaching her old music teacher for voice lessons.
Hiller also told The Hollywood Reporter that Joel will have a new love interest in season two, played by Tim Bagley (Grace and Frankie). “I originally thought that Joel might get back together with his season one boyfriend, but I think this story is much more interesting,” he said.

Somebody Somewhere is having a really good year. Its stars Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller were nominated for Spirit Awards, it’s up for outstanding new TV series at the GLAAD Media Awards, and on April 23 the second season will premiere on HBO — something Hiller wasn’t sure would happen. “We had really good reviews the first season, but we don’t have a murder mystery or sci-fi elements,” he says. “We’re just a quiet, little show full of middle-aged, sweaty people.” Ahead of the GLAAD Awards, Hiller talked to THR about what makes the show so special.

Ayo Edebiri took home the prize for best supporting performance in a new scripted series at the Independent Spirit Awards for her role in The Bear.
“I didn’t really prepare any remarks and my manager gave me a piece of paper,” Edebiri began her acceptance speech. “I just want to say, I’m really grateful. Yeah, this is really nice and very cool.”
She went on to say it was important for her to see a room — er, tent — full of people who look like and feel like her.
