Prince’s Iraq War-Era Plea for Peace, “United States of Division,” Finally Gets Wide Release: Stream
A rare Prince song has finally received a wide release. Titled “United States of Division,” the song originally arrived on July 4th, 2004 as the B-side to the Musicology single “Cinnamon Girl,” and only saw limited release on physical editions in the UK and Europe. Now, for the first time, it’s available on streaming platforms everywhere.
The wide release of “United States of Division” arrives via Sony, and was “sourced from the original master tapes in Prince’s legendary vault.”
Lyrically, as its title suggests, “United States of Division” is a political — albeit non-partisan — song, calling on everyone to “stop fighting,” put down their guns, and “gather round” and “make love.” Echoing the sentiments of its A-side “Cinnamon Girl,” which mourned the innocent loss of life and rise of racism that followed 9/11, the song interjects its dancey, feel-good refrains with pointed questions, like “what is this rush to declare war?...

According to a new report, Universal is looking make an original musical featuring Prince’s music, with Ryan Coogler as producer.
According to Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider, Universal is looking to go in an interesting direction with its catalogue of Prince songs. Given the current trend for music biopics the studio is instead opting to go in a different direction when it comes to putting together a film project to use the music by Prince that it owns.
The report states that the studio is keen to develop a film that is inspired by Prince’s music rather than going down the straightforward biopic path. It continues that the musical legend’s estate feels that Prince’s 1984 film, Purple Rain (which starred the artist) already covered his life story, which seems to have pushed Universal into going in another direction.

Prince may no longer be with us, but his musical reputation and pop cultural impact lives on. And now, according to Jeff Sneider at The InSneider (and later confirmed by the trades), Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler is throwing the might of his Proximity Media company behind developing a jukebox musical powered by the Purple One's tunes.
Few details are available about the film at the moment, as it's still at an early stage. Bryan Edward Hill, a veteran of the Titans DC universe series, has written a draft of the script, but it sounds like it'll go through further incarnations on its journey to the screen.
The film doesn't yet have a publicly released title yet, but it's set up at Universal.
Coogler, who runs Proximity with his wife, Zinzi Evans, alongside Sev Ohanian co-founded by the director's Black Panther colleague, composer Ludwig Göransson, is also gearing up to make his next film.

Prince will be the subject of a new jukebox musical movie distributed by Universal Pictures, with Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coolger set to produce.
The script was written by Bryan Edward Hill, who previously worked on television series Titans and Ash vs. Evil Dead.
The news was first reported by Jeff Sneider and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Prince, who died in 2016, has a long cinematic history. 40 years ago this July, Warner Bros. distributed his classic film, Purple Rain. In recent years, he’s been a popular potential subject for projects, including an Elizabeth Banks-starring film that was hinted at in 2018 and an upcoming stage adaptation of Purple Rain.
As for additional details about the forthcoming jukebox musical — like casting, release date, and more — we’ll have to wait and see. If they haven’t nailed their leading actor yet, perhaps a scene akin to SNL’s 2021 Prince biopic skit is playing out now.

Fremantle has deepened its relationship with Artists, Writers & Artisans, Inc. (Awa) by making a minority investment in the company.
Fremantle had struck a strategic development deal with Awa Studios, the film and television division of Awa, last year.
Awa is backed by James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems, Sister, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. In 2021, the company established Awa Studios, helmed by Hollywood veteran Zach Studin as president. Marvel alum Axel Alonso serves as co-founder and chief creative officer overseeing editorial output. Matthew Anderson, co-chair and president and Jon Miller, co-founder and co-chair, lead Awa’s executive team.
The two companies have revealed that the first project on the joint development slate after Fremantle taking a stake in Awa is “Devil’s Highway,” a thriller based on the comic series by Benjamin Percy and Brent Schoonover in which a young woman seeks to unravel a sinister mystery hidden in the dark underbelly of the long-haul trucking industry.

Awa Studios, the content startup that develops graphic novels with the hopes of seeding larger entertainment franchises, has assembled a brain trust of prominent writers and directors who will help the company nurture original ideas across a range of platforms.
Awa Studios has enlisted Reginald Hudlin, Gregg Hurwitz, Laeta Kalogridis, Joseph Kosinski, Al Madrigal and J. Michael Straczynski to serve on the company’s Creative Council. Just over a year ago we heard the first rumblings of a Power Rangers reboot universe, spearheaded by director Jonathan Entwistle. We haven’t heard much since but today we got our first glimpse that this universe is going to be bigger than any fan could have ever imagined. In a Deadline interview with eOne (which is part of Hasbro) President of Global Television Michael Lombardo discussed the company’s plans for upcoming productions, one of which is the new Power Rangers universe.
Multiple Non-Kid Shows
A year ago we only had vague promises of what we might be getting but now things appear to be much firmer. Lombardo says that the new “universe” will be a “a whole-world approach. It’s not just one show, it is shows followed by films, some kids’ programming.”
This confirms much of what we’d heard about, including shows, a film, and kids series.

In the early 1990s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers burst onto the scene and quickly became one of the hottest kids shows on the planet. Millions of toys were sold, ratings went through the roof, multiple copycats were created, and a big budget movie was put into production. Power Rangers’ place in pop culture was cemented and secured a long future for the franchise.
However, as the years went on and Power Rangers continued on television its fame slowly evaporated. It fell into the background; successive seasons of the TV show were enjoyed by new generations of kids and hardcore fans but never captured the public consciousness again like it had in the ‘90s. Multiple attempts were made to try and bring it back into the spotlight but they all had little success in the grand scheme of things.
