For nearly 40 years, they have unleashed a blood-soaked blend of heavy metal horror with a distinct musical style crafted in the darkest reaches of deep space. They are Gwar, and they've leapt from the stage to the paneled page to wreak intergalactic havoc like only they can in the new graphic novel Gwar: In the Duoverse of Absurdity.
Pitting the members of Gwar against alternate dimension versions of themselves (what could go wrong?), Gwar: In the Duoverse of Absurdity is now available from Z2 Comics (along with a bunch of historic memorabilia from the band), and we had the great pleasure of catching up with SawBorg Destructo himself, Matt Maguire, to discuss his eye-popping artwork for the new comic, working on the graphic novel's mind-bending story, and the enduring legacy of Gwar through the decades (and into the future)!
Thanks for taking the time to answer questions for us, and...

When a teenage producer’s remix garners the attention of somebody as big as RedOne, you know you should probably take notice as well. Josh Bernstein teamed up with Dutch producer Rannix on a remix of the producer/songwriter/record executive’s “Don’t You Need Somebody” featuring Enrique Iglesias, R. City, Serayah and Shaggy, and it’s established him as a force to be reckoned with.
RedOne’s original production for “Don’t You Need Somebody” already fit the track for summertime with its its warm, laid-back melody, but Bernstein and Rannix’s remix reinforces these elements by speeding it up and adding a high-pitched synth lead over the top line. A reverberant bass line subtly underscores the new version as well, giving it an added measure of dance appeal just before festival season begins to approach its peak.
In regards to the remix, RedOne said:
[This remix] is sickkkkk and genius!

Our winter may be mild but the cold breeze off Lincoln Center last week for the premiere of Frozen Planet was distinct, in the teeth-chattering presence of cool sculptures of an ice waterfall and ice penguins. And inside Alice Tully Hall, the temperature was brisk too. The Discovery Channel's documentary series Frozen Planet, "The Ends of the Earth" to air on March 18, proves that good storytelling features sex and violence, even if it is family entertainment. As Alec Baldwin narrates, giant polar bears can sniff the scent of a female seven miles away, and stepping through the snow in her footsteps, they stalk her, often mounting her bloodied, having successfully fought off a contender.
The Lion King prepared us for "the circle of life." But the vision of a hapless seal being shaken off an ice floe by a school of hungry Orca whales is, eh, chilling. Or a pack of arctic wolves strategizing,...

Party Pairings. 1. Diane von Furstenberg and Barbara Walters. 2. Jim Clark, Fisher Stevens, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Ben Stiller. 3. Ed Westwick and Richard Phillips. 4. Kristen Bell, Phillip Lim, and Rachel Bilson. From PatrickMcMullan.com. The party scene picked up on Wednesday, as everyone who wasn’t getting engaged or seeing Harry Potter hit the scene. Diane von Furstenberg held court at her New York City store with all the major media heavyweights at a party to celebrate society icon Gloria Vanderbilt’s blush-worthy new book, Obsession: An Erotic Tale. Von Furstenberg and her husband, Barry Diller, mingled with Liz Smith, Hamish Bowles, Fran Lebowitz, and Barbara Walters. Elsewhere in Manhattan, swimsuit model Kristy Hinze’s husband, Netscape co-founder Jim Clark, screened his buzz-worthy documentary The Cove, which looks at the seedy underworld of the dolphin industry. (We wonder if he’s had any experience with dolphin handlers while floating on his $100 million yacht.

Fly Me To The Moon. Lance Bass, a former N'Sync boy-band member who is perhaps best known for his astronaut aspirations. From PatrickMcMullan.com. "I'll fly that mission for sure!" said Lance Bass at Monday's Louis Vuitton cocktail party to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing. Across the room R&B sensation Estelle took a more casual approach to the idea of space tourism: "If someone were to say to me it was like flying to Chicago, I'd definitely go," she said. "I think I'd go to the moon because you wouldn't get burned there." Others that descended upon the Natural History Museum for the space-themed shindig were singer Cassie, Eric Villency, Jessica Szohr, Alexandra Richards, and models Miranda Kerr and Adriana Lima, who proudly clutched her pregnant belly. One of the guests of honor, Apollo 13's Jim Lovell made a speech praising the fashion company for...
