Twilight Time, bless ’em, hands us another treat to go with their 3-D discs of Man in the Dark, Miss Sadie Thompson and Harlock Space Pirate 3-D — and this time it’s a fun bit of 1950s horror — with a hot pair of short subject extras.
There have been plenty of theories as to why horror films became scarce after WW2; it’s as if the U.S. film industry took a ten-year break from the supernatural, and partly...

Bravo cameras should be rolling on this.
It's late afternoon on a recent Friday and I've spent the better part of the day with Stassi Schroeder, but this is the first moment that feels like I'm inside Vanderpump Rules. She's scanning an interview Lisa Vanderpump recently gave in which the reality show's grand dame described her cast members in one word. Stassi's bright-red nails move across the iPhone screen as she zooms in.
"I got 'spoiled'?" she asks aloud, mostly to herself, but possibly to the room.
A boozy happy hour has just been interrupted by shit-talking. But there are no producers. No cameramen slowly zooming in to film her reaction or sound guy holding the boom mic closer in case she lets rip one of her iconic, expletive-filled one-liners. Instead, she laughs slightly uncomfortably and asks, "Spoiled by what...?" She sits in silence for a moment. "Spoiled by what? Fine. Ok. Whatever...

Code blue! Code blue! Fox’s Rake needs an infusion of 4 million Nielsen viewers, stat!
Oh, hello there. As you can see, we’re in crisis mode here at Death Watch Memorial Hospital. It’s that time of year when broadcast networks must decide whether to save their weakest TV shows. While dozens of titles have already been renewed, there’s still plenty of patients in their beds, suffering from a chronic lack of popularity. Take CBS’ The Mentalist: after six seasons of Patrick Jane being right about everything, we’re still not sure he and his dreamy hair are...

The moment I finally became a fan of The Good Wife occurred just about three weeks ago. It came in the current season’s widely praised fifth episode, “Hitting The Fan.” This was the one where Will (Josh Charles) and Diane (Christine Baranski) fired Alicia (Julianna Margulies) and Cary (Matt Czuchry) for plotting to start their own firm. As Will progressed from betrayal (his reaction, a symphonically-performed shock-face culminating in a downbeat “what?!”, was priceless) to “commando mode” (rallying emergency quorums; hustling clients to keep them from bolting), and as Alicia progressed from resolute yet regretful to full-on “Oh, it’s so on!

The Mad Magician (1954)

Writer: Crane Wilbur
Director: John Brahm
Synopsis (From Sony):
Vincent Price plays Gallico the Great, an inspired inventor of magic acts who longs to perform his creations himself. When he finally gets his chance, the production is closed by Gallico’s cruel manager, who wants a rival magician to perform Gallico’s greatest trick, The Lady and the Buzz Saw. An enraged Gallico turns into a homicidal maniac, taking out his victims with the same methods he used to create his illusions.
Review:
The Mad Magician is one of those movies where a man is wronged in the worst imaginable ways, and he goes off the deep end, and you don’t blame him. Matter of fact, you’ll root for him. Losing his hard work to his manager is really just the tip of the iceberg; something of...
