Honda Cr-v: ‘Bigger inside, smaller outside’
Honda has released a campaign to launch its new sport utility vehicle, the Cr-v.
The campaign, which is led by cinema and TV ads, is the first off the production line from Leo Burnett Melbourne, which took over the account the now-defunct DraftFCB three months ago.
The campaign, which features a re-recording of the Broadway classic ‘Anything you can do, I can do better’, introduces the new tagline ‘The power of clever thinking’ – a slightly tweaked version of the classic Honda slogan ‘The power of dreams’.
The idea behind the ad is to show how the Cr-v is superior to other SUVs in the market.
Leo Burnett Melbourne’s Ecd Jason Williams said in a press release: “A launch of a vehicle like the Cr-v was an irresistible opportunity for us to highlight some of the strengths it has over its competitors. After all,...

An ad for Purina’s Fancy Feast brand featuring a party of cats sat around a sushi train is to be exported to cat-crazy Japan.
The ad, made by Sydney’s Banjo Advertising, has amassed more than 160,000 views on Banjo’s YouTube channel and a further 230,000 views via Yahoo! Japan, the country’s most popular search engine, since it aired at the end of February.
The Fancy Feast product exists in Japan but under a different brand name, and Nestle Japan’s marketing director is in discussions with Banjo about reworking the local brand into the ad for the Japanese market.
“I can’t help but think this was a lucky get,” Ryan Barlow, the brand director at Banjo told Mumbrella. “It appears we have inadvertently latched on to the Japanese love of cats and sushi. We didn’t seed the ad. The first thing we knew about was an email from Yahoo!

The soundtrack for an ad for the new Honda Civic has been made from the noises the car makes.
Sixty-five Civic sounds were recorded to make the ad, which was by DraftFCB.
In a press release, Honda’s marketing manager Kevin Lillie said, “I loved the idea from the minute it was presented. This communication matches Honda’s engineering – delivering precision while looking and sounding great. Everything in it works beautifully.”
The idea of car sounds as the central creative theme was used in an ad for Honda UK in 2006. In the ad, by Wieden + Kennedy London, the sounds a Honda makes are mimicked by a choir.
Press, magazine, outdoor and dealer collateral will run in support of the 45, 30 and 15 second versions of the ‘Symphony in motion’ TV work, which breaks on Sunday. The ad will also run as a 60 second cinema ad.

When Rory Donovan went to college last fall, his father, At&T chief technology officer John Donovan, wanted to check up on him. Sure enough, there was an app for that. Donovan and his network even helped popularize it. FamilyMap is a tracking service on Donovan's smartphone that shows the real-time locations of everyone on his family plan. Now, if Rory is out late at a party, Donovan can call him up. "I say, 'What are you doing?' He usually says he's going home," Donovan says,...

Kevin Costner's Oscar-winning movie Dances With Wolves is set to hit the Broadway stage - as a musical.
Producer Matt Murphy has acquired the stage rights to Michael Blake’s 1986 bestselling novel and now intends to adapt the book into a dramatic musical for the Broadway stage.
Murphy says, "Dances With Wolves will be a uniquely spectacular and dramatic new musical. I envision a score that is inspired by Appalachian, folk, Civil War era, and Native American music, coupled with a production design that celebrates the spirit and ceremony of Native American culture amidst the awe-inspiring landscape of the American frontier.
"I am seeking a creative team who can make the epic story of Dances With Wolves sing for a new medium and a new generation of audiences."
Costner played Lieutenant John Dunbar, who became accepted by the Sioux Indians, in the 1990 movie, which he also directed.
The film won Oscars for Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Picture, Best Sound and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Venture Capitalist firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers has announced it is to double its investment in its iFund to $200 million. At a press conference, its head, John Doerr, described the iPad, whose first reviews hit the media last night, as "gorgeous" and "magic," and claimed that it would kick off a "third renaissance in software." (A rerenaissance, then.) "I've touched it. I've caressed it," he said, refuting the most popular accusation that the device is nothing more than an outsized iPhone.
"Welcome to the brave new post-pc era where a swoosh of fluidity replaces a mouse-bound Gui. A new, revolutionary platform is rare, and a prize for entrepreneurs. We expect all ventures to have an iPad strategy. We will fund new ventures for iPad, and the iFund will accelerate their success." Anyone who gets to unwrap an iPad on Saturday will find no less than 11 Kleiner Perkins-funded apps on the device.
