[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
There’s nothing quite like an outside threat to bring a family together, especially when that threat is of the undead variety. Siblings may not always get along, but when your sister’s soul is sought by a coven of witches, or when your mom is eyed as an eternal bride by a coffin-dwelling creep, it’s time to take those Sister Sledge lyrics to heart and become a family that can overcome anything—including wicked spells and sharp fangs. Set on respective fateful nights where the future of a homestead hangs in the balance and its up to siblings to save it, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire and Hocus Pocus are family-friendly films that make for a great double feature during the Halloween season.
Perhaps the less-known of the two films, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire will likely ring a nostalgic bell for...

There’s something to offend—and amuse—everyone in the horror/comedy Bloody Knuckles. Fangoria spoke to the team behind the shamelessly entertaining flick, just out on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD from Artsploitation Films. Written and directed by Matt O., a.k.a. Matt O’Mahoney, the Vancouver-lensed Bloody Knuckles (initially titled Sick Puppy) stars Adam Boys as Travis, a cartoonist who […]...

Today on Blu-ray Artsploitation films is releasing Matt O.'s Bloody Knuckles. Bloody Knuckles is a bit of a left field choice from Artsploitation, who've made their name straddling the line between high-minded art films and genre films. This film, on the other hand, is more of an '80s style sleazefest. Lots of gooey practical effects a la Street Trash and the constant intent to offend at any cost are high on the Bloody Knuckles priority list. It's certainly a fun film, here's what Artsploitation has to say about it:Travis, an underground comic book artist with a penchant for obscene caricatures, upsets a Chinatown crime lord who responds by cutting off the young man's hand. As a despondent, drunken Travis wallows in post-severed hand depression, his...

Flesh For The Inferno
• Release Date: Theatrical World Premiere October 25th (Head here for details)
• Written By: Michael Varrati
• Directed By: Richard Griffin
• Starring: Anna Rizzo, Michael Thurber, Jamie Lyn Bagley
As anyone that reads this column knows, I am a fan of prolific independent horror maestro Richard Griffin. When I was afforded the opportunity to be among the first to check out his latest feature Flesh For The Inferno, I jumped on that quicker than a zombie at an all-you-can-eat brain buffet!
The story runs like this: when a child lover of a priest (you inferred correctly) bricks up some nuns in a church’s walls, they take it upon themselves to renounce God. You can guess how that works out…...

*an online screener of this film was provided by Artsploitation Films. Director/writer: Matt O'Mahoney. Cast: Adam Boys, Kasey Ryne Mazak, Ken Tsui and Gabrielle Giraud. Bloody Knuckles is an indie horror film from first time feature film director Matt O'Mahoney. The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. And, Bloody Knuckles involves a comic book artist protagonist and a local, gangland real estate developer. The protagonist, Travis (Adam Boys), uses his imagination to level the violent playing field. But, fictional heroes are much less heroic than more real ones. Still, O'Mahoney creates some great conflict and even some romance. The lighting dampens the field of vision; too many scenes are shot indoors. The viewer will need to overcome a few film detriments as Bloody Knuckles moves deeper into Travis' complex inner world. Travis draws artwork by day. He works on sketches of architectural structures at night. His friend and roommate,...

Tagline: "Nobody has the right to not be offended." Bloody Knuckles is a Canadian production. From writer and director Matt O'Mahoney, the film covers topics like freedom of speech, political correctness and other topics. The film has debuted at several film festivals, throughout 2014 and 2015. Now, Artsploitation Films has picked up Bloody Knuckles for distribution. A preview of the film's launch on home entertainment platforms is hosted here. The film's story follows a cartoonist. His work upsets a local crime lord, who cuts off Travis'(Adam Boys) hand. But, his hand wants revenge and so does one of Travis' cartoonish characters. Now, the bad guys are on the run as the protagonist's imagination reaches its full bloody potential. A trailer for the film was released late last year. The clip shows Travis encountering and interacting with strange characters, at night as he draws during the day. Part comedy and part horror,...

Shortly before its Vancouver premiere at Viff, I had a chance to meet up with Bloody Knuckles (review) director Matt O'Mahoney who turned out to be exactly the kind of guy you'd expect to have made the movie: smart, personable and very funny.
Over the course of our conversation, O'Mahoney talked a little about the inspiration for the movie, some of the antics that went into production and his influences, many of which make appearances on screen.
Bloody Knuckles is a heck of a good time so keep an eye for it playing at a film festival near you!
Congrats on the movie. It's so much fun.
Thank you very much.

A couple of weeks ago we had a chance to peek a first look at Matt O'Mahoney's horror comedy Bloody Knuckles which tells the story of an underground comic book artist whose latest comic offends a Chinatown crime boss who decides to strike back by cutting off the artist's hand only to have the severed limb retaliate.
It sounded like it could be good fun and our first look at a trailer for Bloody Knuckles doesn't disappoint. Though it doesn't do much in the way of explaining the premise, it gives a glimpse at some pretty interesting looking situations which could bode well for bloody fun.
Bloody Knuckles recently premiered at Fantasia.

Here's your first look at Bloody Knuckles, a horror-comedy making its debut at the Fantasia International Film Festival this month. The film hails from Canada and was written and directed by Matt O'Mahoney. The film is the story of Travis Warner, an underground comic book artist who revels in the profane. When his latest comic offends a Chinatown crime boss, the gangster removes his drawing hand as punishment. Travis abandons his comic, along with his ideals, and spirals into drunken misery. That is, until his hand returns from the grave. The lovable, decomposing appendage drags Travis through a seedy netherworld of dirty comics, contraband pesticides, and underground sex clubs on its quest for justice!

Ever wonder what would happen if Thing dragged one of the Adams kids through a seedy underworld of dirty comics, contraband pesticides and underground sex clubs? That's kind of what Bloody Knuckles is about.
The feature film debut of writer/director Matt O'Mahoney stars Adam Boys as Travis Warner, an underground comic book artist whose latest comic offends a Chinatown crime boss who retaliates by cutting off the artist's hand. Unable to draw, Travis descends into a drunken stupor and is then dragged out of it when his severed limb returns from the great beyond and drags him through a seedy adventure in search of revenge.
It sounds ridiculous and I'm sure it'll be ridiculous. In the best way possible. In a press release for the movie, O'Mahoney explained that the movie is a res [Continued ...]...

Writer/director Matt O'Mahoney will be unleashing a full blast of horror comedy next year with the release of Bloody Knuckles but here's a little something to keep us occupied until then.
Created for The ABCs of Death, Adjust Tracking is a pretty great homage to 80s horror, complete with Videodrome-like twist. The short may not have made the cut (though it should have) but it later went on to play the Telluride Horror Show and now the producers have released a director's cut of the cut in all its gory glory. Great bit of entertainment just in time for Halloween!
