When I made the proposal that Pajiba might include a sports column, I had a few specific elements in mind. I envisioned it as general interest and topical. I wanted to write something that dwelled somewhere between Espn's Outside The Lines and Pardon The Interruption. That is, it would tend toward human-interest stories, examine the cultural implications and offshoots of the sports world, and look beyond the Xs, the Os, the wins, the losses, and the box scores. I hoped to inject a bit of wit and humor into it. Above all, it would assume the objective viewpoint that sports journalism demands. That is, my own personal rooting interests would not be responsible for dictating any of the editorial biases that end up on the page.
As I write this column in the wake of a week two loss that brings my long-supported NFL team to an 0-2 start for...

"Top Chef Masters 2" really turns up the heat with a slew of fun celebrity guests as well as returning chef'testants seeking redemption.
Among the guests will be the cast of "Modern Family" (perhaps a family style meal challenge?), "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening (yellow food?), Hank Azaria who voices Moe and others on "The Simpsons," "Lie to Me" actor Mekhi Phifer, Olympic swimmer Jason Lezak and a trio of the "Real Housewives of Orange County," Lynne Curtin, Alexis Bellino and Tamra Barney, reports EW.
The site also lists Andrew Zimmerman as a guest, but since Wikipedia says Zimmerman is a professor of German history at George Washington University, we're going to guess that they meant Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods." German food, while exotic to some and rich in history, probably isn't as challenging as what Zimmern will bring to the table. [Update: In a press release sent out Wednesday, Bravo confirmed Zimmern's participation.]
Now on to the chef'testants.

Lindsey Vonn training on a Super G race course in Vail, Colorado, on November 23, 2009. Photographs by Jack Affleck, Vail Mountain, Colorado. Some Olympic moments are unforgettable: When U.S. swimmer Jason Lezak chased down Frenchman Alain Bernard in the 4x100-meter medley relay in the 2008 Beijing games to keep Michael Phelps’s bid for eight gold medals alive; when U.S. gymnast Kerri Strug stuck the landing on her vault in the 1996 Atlanta games despite a severely twisted ankle, ending all question as to whether Team U.S.A. would win the gold; and when U.S. alpine skier Lindsey Vonn (née Kildow) took that death-defying crash on a training run in the 2006 Torino games and somehow found the courage to race down the mountain again. “I’ve honestly had a lot of crashes in my entire career,” Vonn said last week from Vail, Colorado, the 25-year-old’s home base.
