Exclusive: Here’s some buzzy casting. Greta Lee (Past Lives) and Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love) are in negotiations to star in director and producer Louis Leterrier’s (Now You See Me) upcoming sci-fi horror film 11817.
Both actors are on a roll. The former is coming off a string of hits including Oscar nominee Past Lives, Apple TV drama The Morning Show and Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, while Ben-Adir’s last two movies couldn’t have gone much better in the shape of box office hits Bob Marley: One Love and Barbie.
In 11817, inexplicable forces trap a family of four inside their house indefinitely. As both modern luxuries and life or death essentials begin to run out, the family must learn how to be resourceful to survive and outsmart who – or what – is keeping them trapped.
Additional casting is underway on the project, which is based on a script by Matthew Robinson.

Vin Diesel will begin production on the fourth installment of the Riddick franchise, Riddick: Furya, on August 26. The film will be shot in Germany, Spain, and the UK.
This follow-up to the sci-fi films Pitch Black (2000), The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), and Riddick (2013) reunites Diesel with writer and director David Twohy. Diesel will reprise his role as the anti-hero Richard B. Riddick, a dangerous escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the galaxy.
In Riddick: Furya, Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there, he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. Some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

After years of promises that it would happen, the fourth "Riddick" movie is, indeed, finally happening. Vin Diesel is set to return as the titular character in a new installment of the franchise titled "Riddick: Furya," with David Twohy again serving as director. For the fourth time since the turn of the millennium, Diesel will be playing in the sandbox that helped make him a movie star in the first place.
According to a press release, "Furya" will begin production on August 26, 2024, with filming set to take place in Germany, Spain, and the U.K. This brings the project full circle, as Diesel and Twohy have been trying to make it for some time. In 2019, the "Fast & Furious" star shared on Instagram that the script for "Riddick 4" was complete. It's taken nearly five years to get all of the ducks in a row but the duo has managed...

Whenever Vin Diesel wants to get away from family and live more than a quarter mile at a time, he revisits his other franchises. Diesel, an unapologetic sci-fi nerd, has always had a soft spot for his space anti-hero character, Riddick. Diesel will be following up on the previous entries with the upcoming Riddick: Furya. Deadline has now reported that this entry has just set its production start date on August 26th. This comes just as director Louis Leterrer confirmed that the eleventh Fast & Furious movie will not begin production until next year, which leaves Diesel open.
The plot of Riddick: Furya reads,
“Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

Vin Diesel is officially returning to the world of Pitch Black and galactic antihero Riddick, the sci-fi action franchise that gave the actor his first major leading role.
Riddick: Furya, which was announced in February 2023, is now moving full steam ahead toward an Aug. 26 shoot date, producers announced Monday. Diesel stars and produces the film, which reteams him with David Twohy, the filmmaker who has directed all of the franchise’s previous entries. Furya will film in locales such as Germany, Spain and the U.K.
Pitch Black, released by Universal in 2000, introduced Diesel as a captured criminal who, along with several other passengers, crash lands on a planet where sundown unleashes feral monsters. While the first one was made for $23 million, 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick cost over $100 million, as the movie went big in scope. The route failed to excite audiences and it seemed like the movie series was over.

Saban Films has acquired North American rights to the sci-fi thriller “Guns Akimbo,” starring Daniel Radcliffe, the company announced Saturday.
Written and directed by Jason Lei Howden (“Deathgasm”) the film stars Radcliffe as a nerdy video game developer in a dead-end job, who finds himself with guns surgically attached to his hands, forced to become the newest contestant in an illegal, live-streamed death match.
“When I got to about page 10 of the script and there was this scene where my character Miles with his new gun attachment hands has to work out and try to go to the bathroom. That was the moment that I was like ‘You’re fully exploring the premise, I’m in,” Radcliffe told TheWrap after the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Arriving in select theaters and on VOD this week is Corin Hardy’s The Hallow, a dark spin on the world of fairytales and folklore that follows two parents (portrayed by Joseph Mawle and Bojana Novakovic) fighting against a deadly magical force hidden deep in the woods surrounding their remote home in Ireland—a force that wants nothing more than to steal their infant child away from them forever.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Hardy about the inspirations behind the story of The Hallow and how his love for ’70s and ’80s genre cinema fueled his desire to do as much in-camera as he possibly could on the ambitious indie horror film. Hardy also chatted about The Hallow’s co-stars and the challenges he faced along the way in making his feature film debut.

(Cbr) Much like the ravenous hordes seen in their games, Deep Silver’s "Dead Island" has risen from the dead in Hollywood. According to Deadline, the open-world zombie horror role-playing game has moved from Lionsgate to Occupant Entertainment. Lionsgate acquired the film rights in September 2011, about the time of the game’s release, but development stalled. Now Occupant has picked them up from Deep Silver. "Deep Silver has created a highly successful game franchise based on very cinematic, widely viewed and well received trailers, which provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse," Occupant’s Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino said in a statement. "We want to find the right filmmaker and present somewhat of an open canvas, to make something distinct and original that also appeals to and expands the core audience." It’s really hard to kill a zombie, and even harder to kill a zombie movie. Occupant Entertainment and video game publisher Deep Silver will be collaborating to make a feature film of the popular game, Dead Island, which is about a group of vacationing survivors who fight off zombies on an island.
Dead Island gained a massive viral following after its 2011 release trailer, which involved an eerie retelling of a family getaway gone awry. The game was lauded for its cinematic approach to storytelling. A sequel will be hitting consoles next spring.
Lionsgate had previously acquired the rights to the game in 2011, but the project was stalled amidst a studio shake-up.
After years in gestation, the studio and publisher tandem are quickly looking to fill out a director and cast list, with hopes of fast tracking the production to begin in early 2015.

Zombies are everywhere these days – on the small screen with AMC’s The Walking Dead and Syfy’s upcoming Z Nation, on the big screen with World War Z and Warm Bodies, and especially in video games. Madame Bovary
Director: Sophie Barthes
Writers: Sophie Barthes and Rose Barreneche
Producers: Aden Films’ Barthes, Occupant Films’ Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Mia Wasikowska, Ezra Miller, Paul Giamatti, Rhys Ifans, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Laura Carmichael, Olivier Gourmet, Logan Marshall-Green
Her Sundance preemed Cold Souls, a zany, wry and at times acidic wink to Being John Malkovich-like and homage to Woody Allen was an overlooked oddity that worked with discriminating tastes and received a chickpea sized reception. A long six years later, we hope that her sophomore portrait and take on an a French classic feels fresh and falls along the lines of what Wuthering Heights turned out like under Andrea Arnold’s guise. Re-teaming with her hubby dp Andrij Parekh, Madame Bovary will definitely look the part and hopefully with the Ezra Miller and Mia Wasikowska pairing will bring us characters occupying hazardous emotional spaces.
