The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched the final installment of Discovery’s three-part gold-rush miniseries Klondike, stop reading now. Star Richard Madden chatted about the ending — from its surprising potty humor to the nightmares it gave him.
At first, it seemed as though Bill Haskell (Madden) and his mining pal Joe Meeker (Tim Blake Nelson) would make it out of the Yukon alive — and rich. Meeker had hidden some of their sought-after gold at the bottom of their makeshift toilet. Madden’s reaction to that particular twist? “I thought exactly what the line at the end of the scene is,...

Watching the expansive three-part miniseries "Klondike," Discovery's Channel's first scripted project (starting Mon. Jan. 20 at 9:00 p.m.) will leave you cold. Literally. Thanks to cinematic imagery, storylines that highlight the high stakes (and fleeting rewards) of the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890s, and three nights of avalanches, typhus and murder (yup, it's all there -- the miniseries is based on Charlotte Gray's 2011 book "Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike"), you'll not only feel the cold, the intensely dangerous plight of these adventurers will send a chill through your veins. Bill Haskell is our intrepid main character, and...

“It’s another piece of American madness,” Sam Shepard said today of Discovery‘s first scripted project, Klondike. “You know, another chunk of insanity that we carry around with us, regardless of whether it’s involved in technology or involved in trapping beavers.” In December, Discovery announced its miniseries about the Klondike Gold Rush of 1895, co-produced by Scott Free Television, eOne and Nomadic Pictures and based on Canadian journalist Charlotte Gray’s novel Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich In The Klondike. The script, written by Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring, tells the story of six strangers and their collective fight for survival and wealth in a small frontier town in the remote Klondike. Chris Cooper, cast in February as Father Judge — who has come to Klondike to atone for his violent past on a mission to save souls — exited in March after suffering a minor heart attack. Shepard replaced him.

Everyone wants scripted programming these days -- even the Discovery channel, which will take its first dig into scripted TV with gold rush miniseries "Klondike." Based on Charlotte Gray’s book "Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike," the six-part period drama is produced by Ridley Scott, directed by Simon Cellan Jones ("The One and Only") and stars Richard Madden (King of the North Robb Stark on "Game of Thrones," returning to snowy terrain), Tim Blake Nelson, Abbie Cornish, Tim Roth and Chris Cooper. The trailer, below, seems to promise an exploration of American Naturalism and a "man versus nature" theme, even including famed author Jack London as a character. The series will follow the lives of two childhood best friends, Bill (Madden) and Epstein (Augustus Prew), in the late 1890s as they flock to the gold rush capital in the untamed Yukon Territory to claim their fortune.

Variety reports that Game Of Thrones star Richard Madden has signed onto Disney’s new live-action Cinderella film to play the Prince.
Lily James, of Downtown Abbey fame will play Cinderella and Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth, Lotr Trilogy) will play the evil stepmother.
The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet, Thor) who places an emphasis on acting. The casting is telling, because while these may not be the most recognizable stars, they are all well-respected for their acting abilities.
Actor Madden will also appear in Discovery Channel’s Klondike, a six-hour miniseries about the Canadian Gold Rush, based on the novel Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike, by Charlotte Gray.

The Discovery Channel has been developing its first scripted project, in the form of a hearty miniseries titled Klondike and based upon Charlotte Gray’s novel Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich In The Klondike. This week the upcoming series adds actor Sam Shepard to it’s cast.
The actor who played Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff in 1983 also happens to be quite the author, playwright and screenwriter. Among his accolades are a Pulitzer Prize win for Drama in 1979 for his play Buried Child. In Klondike, Shepard will be replacing another great actor, Mr. Chris Cooper. Cooper pulled out of filming just last to “attend to a personal matter” reported Deadline. I think if you can’t have Cooper, Shepard is a terrific second choice. Both men bring grit to their parts. The role is for “Father Judge”, a man who journeys to the Klondike hoping to save souls.
