Throughout the years, George Clooney and Brad Pitt have teamed up multiple times – not just on Ocean’s Eleven (and the subsequent Twelve and Thirteen), but also on the Coen Brothers’ Burn After Reading. And now, 16 years after that comedic shaggy-dog tale, the duo is back on screen together, teaming up in Jon Watts’ upcoming comedy-thriller Wolfs. That’s a proper movie-movie-star pairing, combining to lead Watts’ return to more grounded territory after helming Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home; his latest film sees Clooney and Pitt play solitary crime scene fixers, who suddenly find themselves having to work together after both being called to clean up the same mess. Watch the trailer here:
Wolfs (it’s going to take a few goes to get used to how that title sounds) looks to be that all-too-rare thing – a film-star-led original studio picture, not originating from any kind of source material.

Star Wars fans who attended last April's Star Wars Celebration in London were treated to a first look at Skeleton Crew. However, more than a year later, Lucasfilm still hasn't released any of that content online (including the trailer which seemingly confirmed Jude Law is playing a Jedi).
What we do know is that the series takes place around the same time as The Mandalorian, with the expectation being that it will tie into the post-Return of the Jedi era of storytelling. How important it's going to be to the wider franchise and Dave Filoni's eventual crossover movie remains to be seen.
In the meantime, some leaked Skeleton Crew merchandise - first shared on SFFGazette.com - has offered a new look at the show's leads.

Skeleton Crew is arguably one of the more intriguing Star Wars projects heading our way, with very little known about how the series will fit into the wider Galaxy Far, Far Away (we've heard next to nothing since Star Wars Celebration attendees were treated to a brief sneak peek last April).
What we do know is that the Disney+ series focuses on a group of kids who get lost in space, with Jude Law cast in the lead role as a mysterious Jedi. With a confirmed post-Return of the Jedi setting, we also anticipate it somehow tying into The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
Collider (via SFFGazette.com) recently spoke with director and executive producer Jon Watts and learned that Skeleton Crew is set to launch this holiday season. That presumably means a December launch.
The filmmaker also shared a new description of the series. "It's about a group of kids...

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming adventure television series set in the universe created by George Lucas. The series was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford and is expected to premiere sometime in 2024. Ahead of the show’s release, Watts spoke about crafting a new experience in the Star Wars world through the series.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming series co-created by Jon Watts.
At the same time, Watts also shed light on the show’s use of practical effects. Therefore, it is likely that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will be closer in visual style to the earlier films in the franchise, which fans hold dear even today. Meanwhile, the series might also avoid the criticism aimed at the more recent entries in the franchise, which fans hate for overreliance on one particular technique.

The series follows a group of kids, probably Force-sensitive, who must embark on an adventure to find their way back home after a mysterious discovery leads them astray.
Kerry Condon, who stars in ‘Skeleton Crew,’ shared her surprise about working with children on the show. She mentioned how this production differs greatly from anything we’ve previously seen in Star Wars.
It’s so great. I don’t even have kids, but I’d pay to see this. I loved it. I loved being on it. There was something about it that was so innocent and playful and lovely. People say don’t work with kids or animals, but I don’t know about that.

Dave Filoni, who has overseen “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Rebels,” “The Mandalorian,” “Ahsoka” and is the master of all things in a galaxy far, far way, now has a new role as Lucasfilm: chief creative officer. He still holds the title of executive vice president, which he received in 2020.
Filoni announced his chief creative officer title in an interview with Vanity Fair on Tuesday. He was already an executive producer of all live-action “Star Wars” shows on Disney+ and had been tapped to direct a film weaving together all of the TV storylines, but he will now take a more involved role with the future of “Star Wars.”
“In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways,” he said. “In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on.

Following on from word that Everything Everywhere directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert handled an episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, we know now via One Take News that The Green Knight's David is directing another.
It sounds like co-creator Jon Watts – he worked with his Spider-Man: Homecoming and Cop Car collaborator Christopher Ford along with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni – has assembled quite the fascinating list of filmmakers for this one.
Set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian and its associated series, Skeleton Crew focuses on a group of kids who are about ten years old who get lost in the Star Wars universe.
Jude Law is starring in the show – which marks another time working with Lowery, since he's playing Captain Hook in the director's latest live-action Disney update, Peter Pan & Wendy, which will be on Disney+ on 28 April.

The Daniels are already in the universe where they’re Oscar winners – now they’re journeying to the “Star Wars” galaxy. The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” filmmakers have directed at least one episode of the upcoming “Star Wars” Disney+ series “Skeleton Crew,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The news comes after the series, which began production in September, reportedly wrapped filming in late January. The show, which was developed by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” director Jon Watts and Christopher Ford for Disney+, has kept details about its production tightly under wraps; the only cast member announced so far is Jude Law, and no other directors or writers on the show have been disclosed.
IndieWire has reached out to Lucasfilm, which said there was “no additional info to share at this point.”
It’s unclear how many episodes of “Skeleton Crew” the Daniels — or Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert — have directed from the show.

As baffled law enforcement agents scrambled for answers, a lone FBI agent (Law), stationed in the sleepy, picturesque town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, came to believe the crimes were not the work of traditional, financially motivated criminals but a group of dangerous domestic terrorists, inspired by a radical,...

Everyone knows working in Hollywood can be complicated. However, what happens when crew members say they’ve been mistreated and vow to leave the universe they helped create? According to Making Star Wars, multiple crew members of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew say conditions on the set were so harsh they’ll never work on another Star Wars project in the future. The crew members bringing this story to light remain nameless. Still, they claim Lucasfilm never addressed the exodus of crew members who said “grueling” conditions led them to resign. The loss of these individuals triggered a wave of remaining staff feeling “underappreciated, disposable, and disrespected.”
Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: Skeleton Crew in May 2022. Fans of the franchise set in a galaxy far, far away were thrilled to learn about another Star Wars project in the works and eagerly awaited more details. The hype train punched into overdrive...

The future of Star Wars is coming to audiences at light speed.
Thursday’s Star Wars Celebration kick-off marked the convention’s first in-person event since 2019, after the 2020 edition was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Spoiler Warning: This story discusses many major plot developments in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” currently playing in theaters. Please do not read if you have not seen the film.
Of the many multiversal pleasures of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” one of the most satisfying has been how every single person involved — from director Jon Watts to producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal to stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Benedict Cumberbatch and Marisa Tomei — managed to keep the movie’s biggest secret: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were both reprising their roles as Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man.
What makes that feat so much more impressive is that everyone expected it to happen. Ever since news leaked that actors like Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina were reprising their roles as various Spider-Man villains — news Molina happily confirmed to Variety back in April — fans across the globe have flooded the...

Photo: 'Chaos Walking'/Lionsgate ‘Chaos Walking’ follows a traditional Hollywood structure and in theory, should be a really good movie. The dense setups show how ambitious the film is to expand into something much more than just one film, but the vague payoffs and lack of character development limit audience’s interest in even wanting more. Based upon the best-selling novel ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go’ by Patrick Ness, a co-writer of the screenplay along with Christopher Ford, this movie tries to take the long books to the screen with a Cinematic evolvement. There are many great qualities of this film, such as the ravishing visual effects, picturesque set design, and captivating and transfixing cinematography. As expected, the directing and performances are impeccable, it’s the excessively fast-paced rhythm of the story, forced messages, and several unfulfilled details throughout that leave the film ultimately disorganized. Cinemas should have scored a significant boost last weekend, with two major releases in the way of Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon and Roadshow’s Chaos Walking. Yet exhibitors report softer starts for both titles than they hoped for.
Directed by Carlos López Estrada and Don Hall, Raya topped the box office earning $1.5 million from 379 screens.
That’s a reasonable result for the Covid-era, but an animated Disney title would typically expect to open on much more. By way of comparison, Universal’s Croods: A New Age opened on $6.5 million across the Boxing Day weekend – that’s during Covid.
In the US, where New York’s cinemas recently reopened, Raya debuted theatrically on a similarly disappointing $US8.6 million.
It’s hard to know how much Raya‘s box office was impacted by the film’s simultaneously global release on Disney+; in Australia it’s priced at $34.99.

Lionsgate’s YA sci-fi adventure Chaos Walking will be released in theaters nationwide and in IMAX on March 5, 2021, a push-back from the previous Jan. 22 date. The move comes as distributors begin to adjust the Q1 calendar in response to the ongoing pandemic, which they are hoping quells by spring given the good news about the vaccine.
The $100M Tom Holland-Daisy Ridley feature has been delayed numerous times, one of its big delays due to $15M reshoots in mid-2018. However, Ridley’s schedule on the Star Wars movies and Holland’s Spider-Man and Avengers pushed those reshoots. In May 2019 it was reported that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez was helping out with those reshoots in Atlanta while Liman remained on board. The feature was originally dated to open on March 1, 2019.

“Chaos Walking,” a sci-fi adventure starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, has delayed its big-screen debut.
The Lionsgate film, which has already been postponed several times, will premiere in theaters on March 5. It was initially scheduled to release on March 1, 2019, before it was pushed to Jan. 22, 2021, to accommodate reshoots.
Doug Liman directed the movie, which is based on the book “The Knife of Never Letting Go” by Pattrick Ness, who wrote the screenplay with Christopher Ford.
“Chaos Walking,” set in the not-so-distant future, follows Todd Hewitt (Holland) as he discovers Viola, a girl (Ridley) who mysteriously crash lands on his planet. The entire area, curiously, is completely void of women, while the men are affected by “the Noise” — a force that puts all their thoughts on display. As Todd promises to protect Viola from harm, he uncovers his inner abilities and discovers his planet’s dark secrets. The cast also includes Nick Jonas,...

As promised during the Lionsgate earnings call on Thursday, Lionsgate has set a release date for their long-awaited sci-fi Daisy Ridley-Tom Holland movie Chaos Walking which is the post-mlk weekend frame of January 22, 2021. There are no wide entries scheduled on that date.
The pic will follow in the wake of Guy Ritchie’s Jason Statham thriller Cash Truck, which debuts over Mlk weekend.
This is the $100M pic from director Doug Liman that is seen as a big bet for Lionsgate to regain its footing in the Ya space it once owned with The Hunger Games. It was determined in mid-2018 that Chaos Walking needed an estimated $15M of reshoots, but Ridley’s schedule on the Star Wars movies and Holland’s Spider-Man and Avengers pushed those reshoots. Last May it was reported that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez was helping out with those reshoots in Atlanta while Liman remained on board.

A haunting coming-of-age tale that's as heartbreaking as it is horrifying, The Clovehitch Killer strips away the cheerful veneer of one small town American family to show the sinister secrets that sometimes hide in the most innocent places. Simply put, The Clovehitch Killer is one of 2018's must-watch movies, and to celebrate the film's release today in select theaters and On Demand and Digital HD from IFC Midnight, Daily Dead had the great pleasure of catching up with director Duncan Skiles for our latest Q&A to discuss working with Charlie Plummer and Dylan McDermott, realistically depicting small-town life, and making the transition from comedy to horror.
Congratulations on The Clovehitch Killer, Duncan. This is a tremendously told story about life in a small town and the deadly secrets that sometimes live there. When you first read Christopher Ford’s screenplay, what made you decide that you wanted to bring...

Don Burnside (Dylan McDermott) is a pillar of his community. He’s the troop leader of his son’s (Charlie Plummer’s Tyler) church-adjacent Boy Scouts, a devout man of the Lord alongside his wife Cindy (Samantha Mathis), and the type of guy to go out of his way to volunteer and make the neighborhood a better place. So we laugh when the town’s resident eccentric teen (Madisen Beaty’s Kassi), carrying a mark of “whore” around simply because she’s an atheist among cultish worshippers needing a reason to denounce the “other,” asks Tyler if he thinks his father is the serial murderer known as The Clovehitch Killer. She laughs too. That guy? The doofy dad-of-the-year who cracks lame jokes and can barely keep a straight face when reprimanding misbehaving children? No.
Well, the joke might be on us because Tyler unwittingly finds himself stumbling upon evidence that...

"Every man has a secret," and some of them are deadly. Raised in a seemingly loving, albeit confining, family, Tyler's (Charlie Plummer) image of his dad is shattered when he finds something disturbing in his truck... and then the shed. The innocent days of coupon cutting and campouts take a deadly turn in IFC Midnight's official trailer for The Clovehitch Killer, starring Dylan McDermott in a truly chilling role.
Directed by Duncan Skiles from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher Ford, The Clovehitch Killer stars Dylan McDermott, Charlie Plummer, Samantha Mathis, Madisen Beaty, Brenna Sherman, and Lance Chantiles-Wertz. IFC Midnight will release the film in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD platforms on November 16th.
Synopsis: "Tyler's a good kid, a boy scout, raised by a poor but happy family in a small, religious town. But when he finds his dad, Don, has disturbing pornography hidden in the shed,...

There’s nary a drop of blood, but a squirm factor of 10 to much of “The Clovehitch Killer.” This first theatrical feature for director Duncan Skiles, working from a strong screenplay by his past collaborator Christopher Ford, treads familiar ground in eking suspense from the viewpoint of a child who realizes a parent may have a sinister secret life. But this atypical serial-killer thriller distinguishes itself in resisting thrills — let alone any actual violence — till well past its halfway point, instead maximizing the quiet discomfort in a son’s rising suspicion that his outwardly Dagwood-type dad could be a notorious murderer. IFC Midnight plans simultaneous limited-theatrical and digital-formats release of the La Film Festival-premiered film on Nov. 18.

Obviously, “Homecoming” has multiple meanings, not least of which is Spider-Man’s switch to the cool side of the Marvel fence, outside of Sony’s control. Makes sense. One could argue that the very DNA of the modern Marvel movie machine is based on what made Sam Raimi’s first two movies so successful: larger-than-life characters tackling real-world themes, with a lightness of touch that didn’t undermine the gravity of the drama. It’s a difficult balancing act; one which Marc Webb’s aborted reboot largely failed to replicate.

If you enjoyed Spider-Man: Homecoming, then we have good news for you. It sounds like two of the film’s writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are returning for the currently-untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. Now, before you start celebrating too hard, it’s worth noting that while Homecoming holds up as an incredibly fun high school action-comedy, it boasted an entire crew’s worth of writers.
The screenplay alone boasts six writers — Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers. Based on the order in which they are credited, it looks very much like McKenna and Sommers had their hands in the final draft of the script. This is very comforting, as that means the duo were responsible for the way things ultimately ended up (though the contributions of the other writers shouldn’t be understated).

After a Spider-Man trilogy that hasn’t aged well in light of the newer superhero films, and after a failed reboot by Sony that included two lackluster films (to put it gently), Sony has teamed up with Marvel to make the Spider-Man film that fans have been wanting for decades. This time, Tom Holland takes up the web as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, a teenager trying to juggle his life as a teenager and as the newest New York superhero. Parker wants nothing more than to be the next member of the Avengers and under the watchful eye of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), he’s well on his way to the being the best friendly neighborhood...

Today, Marvel is a blockbuster production line of Toyota-like efficiency, and part of its success lies in squeezing the authorship out of its directors. It was too much for Edgar Wright,...

Last week, I got the chance to check out Marvel’s latest outing, the combined production with Sony that relaunched Spider-Man. Yes, I’m talking about Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film screened pretty early for critics, which is almost always a sign of quality, and that sure was the case here. With it opening this week, it’s worth raving about, just a little bit more. This movie is outstanding, one of the year’s best. It also marks a really strong entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, with that, today I’m going to be running down a list of the McU titles so far, focused on where Peter Parker and his web slinging alter ego fit in on the list. You see this list at least once or twice a year, but this is the most up to date one yet, obviously. First though, a quick bit more on this flick.
