Universal Pictures has attached their favorite Fast Five filmmaker Justin Lin to produce a sci-fi comedy Subdivision from writers Morgan Jurgenson and Alex Ankeles.
Lin who continues to helm The Fast and the Furious series will develop the Subdivision project as a potential directing vehicle.
Hot off of the success of Fast Five, Lin has already put together a directing and producing program that includes the action-adventure/spy flick Leading Man; an untitled project about a WWII Japanese American battalion that is the most decorated unit in American history; an untitled sci-fi/crime thriller project to be directed by Robert Glickert; and of course Fast & Furious 6, which is currently filming and already has a release date of May 24th, 2013.
He has inked a two-year first-look deal with the Universal studio for his newly created Barnstorm Pictures banner attached to Subdivision project as well.

The folks at Yomyomf have released the first of their 4-part web series “Drone”, about a runaway combat drone that decides it’s had enough of killing in the name of its evil human bosses and goes on the run. It’s a slick looking web series, with some pretty cool action sequences in the first episode. Check it out below. “Drone” is from a story by Robert Glickert and Daniel Casey, with Glickert directing. Justin Lin of “Fast Five” fame is a producer on this. The series stars Kenneth Choi and “Fringe’s” Lance Reddick, who doesn’t make an appearance in the first episode. It’s actually a lot better than I had expected. Usually these independently produced web series look cheap, so I wonder what kind of budget they had for this and what the overall idea is. Spin it off into its own feature length film,...

Big time movie director Justin Lin is also a member of the awesomely named Yom Yomf network, aka You Offend Me You Offend My Family. I’ve seen some of their videos, and they were always comedies. I really didn’t know they were branching out into serious sci-fi action, which they seem to be doing with the new web series “Drone”. Take a gander at the teaser trailer for “Drone” below. Pretty slick, huh? DR0NE is based in the near future where war drone technology has advanced, and a new weapon has been unleashed – a humanoid drone stronger and faster than any solider. But, in the aftermath of a mysterious incident, a damaged battle drone goes on the run with its programmer to take down a corrupt commander. DR0NE is directed by Robert Glickert, and also stars Kenneth Choi (“Captain America: First Avenger”) The Sci-Fi/Action...

This won't affect Reddick's work on Fox's Fringe as he'll be working during his hiatus from the show which just received a final season order. As THR tells us, Reliance/Imagine Writing Lab alum Daniel Casey has been tapped to script an untitled sci-fi thriller for Universal. Bobby Glickert, former assistant to Fast Five director Justin Lin, will be directing the project.
This is the first feature-length writing project for Casey, who graduated from the Writing Lab last December. Universal picked up the sci-fi thriller back in June, after Glickert wrote the outline for the film with plans of directing. Lin will be producing the project alongside Scott Stuber, and it just so happens that news first got out on the project in late August, when it was announced as part of a production deal Lin had made with the studio.
Details of the project are currently under wraps, but Lin did provide some insight, stating that “the tone and the gritty approach to the sci-fi genre taken here is something that hasn’t been seen in a while.

Fast Five director Justin Lin has signed a deal with Universal Pictures that will keep him visiting The Black Tower for at least the next two years. It makes considerable sense for Universal to have made Lin happy: Fast Five has grossed over $605 million dollars worldwide and is the #1 box office champ for the franchise. Lin also directed the third and fourth movies in the series.
He's committed to direct Fast and the Furious 6, as the six-quel is being referred to now, for a May 24, 2013 release date. Also happening for his Universal bosses is a science fiction concept being developed by Lin's former assistant Robert Glickert and a movie about the 442nd Infantry, an all-Japanese American squad of soldiers that fought in World War II.

It seems like Justin Lin has become an overnight success. Sure, Fast & Furious was a big hit, but the success of Fast Five showed studios that he can deliver something big with their action properties twice in a row, which landed him Terminator 5. He recently talked about how he’s become sought out by major studios over the past few months — so he was already doing well for himself — but THR says that Lin has signed a first-look deal with Universal that will last two years, and lands him his own production company, Barnstorm Pictures.
This will allow him to develop projects on what’s being referred to as an “elevated tentpole aimed at global audiences.” Several movies have been set up for him to produce and possibly direct — they include a spy project called Leading Man, an untitled World War II film centered on a “Japanese American battalion...

Yesterday, I wrote a story on Evel Knievel. Before he was the legendary daredevil, Robert Craig Knievel sold insurance, and he was damn good at it. In fact, within the first few months, he emerged as the leading salesman in the company. He demanded to be promoted to vice president. When he wasn.t, he quit and single-handedly forged his own legacy in another career. That.s one way to make it. The other way is by staying put and paying your dues. It might not be as glamorous, but the end result can be just as satisfying. If you don.t believe me, ask Bobby Glickert. A lowly production assistant on Iron Man and Transformers, Glickert eventually took a job as Fast & Furious director Justin Lin.s assistant. Exclusive: Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form have moved their genre-making production company to Wme. It's a return to the fold after moving from Wme and spending the last year at CAA. Wme reps Bay as a director. The move comes at a time when Platinum Dunes is moving into bigger budget fare after signing a first-look deal at Paramount Pictures. On their first seven films, Platinum Dunes averaged $18 million per film; the priciest was $30 million. They've had an enviable track record for covering their bets. Six of those films grossed their budgets on opening weekends, and two did so on opening night. Most were remakes of fright classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, The Hitcher, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. They'll probably spend at least three times their highest budget rebooting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for which they...

Paramount Pictures must have some sort of extraterrestrial kick going on in the confides of their headquarters that we don't know about. First you have people like Michael Bay going crazy with the "Transformers" films. Then you can add J.J. Abrams' "Super 8" and even go as far as to throw the animated feature "Megamind" into that category, although they're just set for domestic distribution on it. Then again, you can't really blame them, science fiction is always one of those genres that is strangely cool because of the general interest we all have of the unknown beyond our own little world.Paramount is teaming up with Michael Bay, as producer under his Platinum Dunes label, in order to bring the alien abduction spec script into their hands. Not content with the transforming bots from Cybertron, director/producer Michael Bay (Transformers 3) has managed to pick up a new alien abduction film to produce through his production company, Platinum Dunes. The film is being called Confidential Alien Project.
First-time screenwriter Bobby Glickert wrote the film and created a two-minute teaser which attracted Bay and his cohorts Andrew Form and Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes. The film is said to be a cross between Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity.
Platinum Dunes is currently searching for screenwriters for the project.

That’s right, Michael Bay, best known for his nearly over-the-top, big budget CG-heavy films, is taking the low-budget route. Granted, it’s not his film, but he is set to produce it. Bobby Glickert is the writer behind this project, but it will likely go through rewrites, as Platinum Dunes is currently looking for writers to pen its script. Glickert also put together a 2 minute teaser trailer that ultimately was the hook that got Michael Bay, and Platinum Dune partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, to jump on this project.

Michael Bay is getting behind newcomer Bobby Glickert to produce a new, confidential project about alien abduction with a "modest" budget of $12 Million. This has to be a little bit tricky for Michael Bay who is best known for his big budget extravaganzas - that this writer always enjoys (yes even Transformers 2). Maybe bringing in unknown talent makes sense because he won't be accustomed to spending several million dollars on each shot - can we blow that city up one more time please?
The deal was made off of a pitch and short teaser by Bobby Glickert who was a Pa on Bay's 'Transformers'. I'm just as much of a sucker for a good alien invasion movie as anyone else, but that doesn't mean I've got a craving to catch one in the theater every weekend. At Comic-Con alone we heard about Cowboys and Aliens, Battle: Los Angeles and Skyline and that's not even the least of what we have on the way from the genre. Apparently Michael Bay lives by the phrase "you can't have too much of a good thing," because Heat Vision is reporting that he'll be adding another alien-related film to the list.
Paramount snatched up Bobby Glickert's pitch and will have Bay produce alongside his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. The only story information we have so far is that "the plotline is getting the Area 51 treatment" and that it has something to do with alien abductions. Glickert put together a treatment and a two-minute teaser,...

If you're sick of zombies and vampires you may be happy to hear that Hollywood is switching gears back to alien invasions as of late. Spurned on by the popularity of Cloverfield, District 9 and the remake of V, we've now got Steven Spielberg's Falling Skies mini-series [1] on the horizon plus J.J. Abrams' Super 8 [2], Timur Bekmambetov's The Darkest Hour [3] and Jonathan Liebesman's Battle: Los Angeles [4]. And now Michael Bay is about to throw his hat into the ring with a new alien-related project that is being described as Cloverfield meets Paranormal Activity. THR's Heat Vision [5] blog reports that Paramount just picked up a pitch from newcomer Bobby Glickert (Road to Moloch) known only as the "Confidential Alien Project", based on a treatment and a two-minute teaser put together by Glickert. Michael Bay will produce along with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form,...

Briefly: We don't currently know much about the Confidential Alien Project (that's a placeholder title) outside of the fact that it will be a Paramount film and that new writer Bobby Glickert has sold an alien-themed pitch to Platinum Dunes producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. THR says the plot involves 'alien abductions,' and that, despite writing the treatment and assembling a two minute trailer that helped sell the pitch, Glickert won't write. Another screenwriter will be hired instead. Glickert will direct. In theory, I love this idea, because Paramount has the film set up as a low-budget affair. Deadline says the budget is planned for about $12m. The studio has done well with low-budget stuff already (Cloverfield, Paranormal Activity) and has the J.J. Abrams film Super 8 coming up. But two of the three projects I just mentioned have J.J. Abrams as a factor, and Platinum Dunes...

Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes are gearing up to send aliens to the big screen. The "Transformers" director picked up a pitch by Bobby Glickert, who wrote a treatment about alien abductions.
Right now, the project is known as "Confidential Alien Project," according Heat Vision. Bay, of course, is a guy with alien experience. He is currently producing the sci-fi action flick "I Am Number Four."
Bay is also working on "Transformers 3." Who's Glickert? He previously worked as production assistant on films such as "Transformers," "Iron Man" and "Fast & Furious." Who's ready for more alien movies?...

Michael Bay just can’t get enough of extraterrestrials. Not content with unloading three rounds of giant f*****g robot action on us and producing alien drama I Am Number Four, he’s now convinced Paramount to open its corporate wallet to buy former producer’s assitant Bobby Glickert’s untitled space threat pitch. What little we do know about the project so far is contained within the Heat Vision blog’s report: Bay’s Platinum Dunes company (including producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form), will handle getting the thing up and running. The plot description has apparently been locked in a secret bunker, though it involves alien abductions (hints of Communion, anyone?) Gleickert won’t get the chance to script the film himself, however, as Bay and co are already inviting writers into hear the idea and come up with possible screenplay takes.Paramount will likely be looking to...

Even though director Michael Bay is currently directing Transformers 3, he still found the time to pick up another film to produce. Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Paramount has acquired an untitled sci-fi pitch for Bay to produce.
First-time screenwriter Bobby Glickert wrote the film, which was said to be a cross between Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity.
Seems like an interesting concept but do we need Bay shepherding another alien film? First Transformers, I am Number Four and now this one seems a little much right?
Its not clear if Bay will direct or just produce but we shall just wait to find out soon enough.

Be they Kryptonians with a kiss curl, stranded Prawns or homeless robots demolishing American cities it’s not a great time to be an alien in Hollywood.
While we’re not exactly short of Alien sci-fi epics, studios are increasingly keen to stock their shelves with CG heavy movies dealing with visitors from another world. Michael Bay is no stranger to the genre, and Paramount have pocketed the man and handed him a pair of Producer trousers to take charge on a spec script by Bobby Glickert, who has directed two short films which you can see at the foot of this post.
Glickert will also direct the film under Bay’s wing, and the script is described in the trades (two of who are claiming the exclusive so I’m not going to link to either of them, you’ll know where to look) as Cloverfield meets Paranormal Activity...

Michael Bay loves aliens. He’s currently directing his third film with those robots from Cybertron who somehow turn into American makes and models, he’s producing the extraterrestrial refugee adaptation I Am Number Four, and now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s set to shepherd yet another it-came-from-outer-space flick. Described as Cloverfield meets Paranormal Activity — which is code for shaky meets blurry — the script for the as-of-yet untitled project was written by first-timer Bobby Glickert.
Say what you want about Michael Bay, but he knows a fundamental truth: Aliens, like bacon, can help make everything better. Just imagine...

Paramount Pictures has acquired a the film rights to a new alien sci-fi film, which Michael Bay is set to produce on a modest budget. Does Bay even know how to develop a film on a modest budget? Deadline reports that. "The deal was made on the basis of a two-minute teaser and a pitch. It will be directed by Bobby Glickert, and produced by Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form."
The producers and studio are currently meeting with screenwriters to write up the film project. There are no real details on what this movie is about other than it's being called "Confidential Alien Project", and it is compared to Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity, both of which were shot on the cheap and released by Paramount.
This will be Glickert's first big feature film, before this he made to short horror films called Road to Moloch and The Descendent.

2011 looks to be the year that aliens invade the box office. Joining Oren Peli's Area 51 and Jj Abrams' Super 8, comes another in a string of alien related flicks, but this one, at least for now, is remaining pretty hush-hush.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog Paramount is snatching up this latest aliens-related pitch coming from rookie scribe Bobby Glickert to be produced by Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.
The project has been described as Cloverfield meets Paranormal Activity. That would indicate a low-fi approach that relies on one or more of the protagonists doing the actual street-level filming. Oh, and explosions. Lots and lots and lots of explosions.
More soon.

And here we have a big spec script sale not long after wrapping up Comic-Con to prove that sci-fi and aliens are the hot thing right now (e.g. Battle: La, Skyline, Falling Skies). Deadline says Paramount has picked up a spec script for a "modestly budgeted extraterrestrial project" that Michael Bay will produce (at some point). It's supposedly called the "Confidential Alien Project" (meaning probably to be later surprisingly renamed) and is said to be a "cross between Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity." Ummm wait - isn't what Paranormal Activity's Oren Peli directing as his next film, Area 51, the exact same for Paramount anyway? Deadline says that Wme made the deal with Paramount and both Michael Bay and Steven Schneider (Area 51, Paranormal Activity 2) will produce, while first-time feature filmmaker Bobby Glickert will be writing and directing. Glickert was a Pa on the first Transformers and was...

As you well know, Hollywood loves a good trend and fad. For example, superheroes, vampires, 3-D, and the list goes on and on. Apparently, the folks over at Paramount would like to set a new trend: Aliens. The studio already has two alien themed projects in the creative pipeline and according to Deadline, just added another film into the mix.
The currently titled and most likely, top secret, Confidential Alien Project will be written and directed by Bobby Glickert and produced by Michael Bay. Deadline used the high concept pitch and described the project as Cloverfield meets Paranormal Activity.
This will mark Glickert’s feature length film debut, but you can watch one of his short films, Road to Molach here.

For those that want to break into the industry, start Pa’ing. Bobby Glickert did just very that on Michael Bay‘s first Transformers film. Now, after recently being an assistant to director Justin Lin on Fast & Furious, he will have his shot at directing his first feature, Deadline reports.
Paramount Pictures, who is currently producing the J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg alien project Super 8, will finance another modestly-budgeted invasion flick. Michael Bay will help produce what’s being called “the Confidential Alien Project.” Think Cloverfield mixed with Paranormal Activity.
You can check out Robert Glickert‘s shorts here: Road to Moloch and his thesis project The Descendent.
It’s insane how many sci-fi/alien projects are being developed. D.J. Caruso‘s I Am Number Four and Jon Favreau‘s Cowboys & Aliens are both at Paramount. Battle: Los Angeles comes out next March while Skyline hits in November. The Darkest...

Exclusive: Paramount, which is already making the Jj Abrams-directed Steven Spielberg-produced Super 8, has acquired a spec package for another modestly budgeted extraterrestrial project. This one's about alien abduction and the plan is to bring it in for about $12 million. And this one has as its producer Michael Bay, who's currently shooting Transformers 3 for the studio. The deal was made on the basis of a two-minute teaser and a pitch. It will be directed by Bobby Glickert, and produced by Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. They are out to writers to draft Glickert's story.
