Season 2 of Nic Pizzolatto's HBO series "True Detective" was a frustratingly disjointed affair. It played like the first draft of a James Ellroy L.A. noir: it was emotionally overheated and graphically violent, but the inciting incident and ensuing intrigue never caught fire. The quintet of compromised main characters, who worked in different Los Angeles law enforcement agencies, were fascinating in their own right (save for Taylor Kitsch's overmatched California Highway Patrol officer), but the stakes were strangely un-engaging. Imagine "Chinatown" with Perry Lopez' Lieutenant Lou Escobar getting a full arc to give more oxygen to the Hollis Mulwray investigation from the LAPD's perspective, and that's this season of "True Detective" in a nutshell.

Jennifer Aniston is making waves in her role as Alex Levy on Apple TV’s The Morning Show. Before that, she became a household name in her role as Rachel Green in the hit show Friends. Here’s why Aniston said acting brings her “healing.”
How Jennifer Aniston became part of Apple TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ Jennifer Aniston | Amy Sussman/FilmMagic
Joining Apple TV’s The Morning Show was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Aniston told Marie Claire Australia the opportunity to be on The Morning Show came about during a Christmas party she hosted.
“Initially, it came about because our producer Michael Ellenberg was at my Christmas party, and I was a huge fan of The Leftovers—which he also produced—so I said, ‘You know, I’m not opposed to TV.’ He said, ‘Are you serious?’ And I said, ‘I am serious,...

There are plenty of things to love about Jennifer Aniston, but one of the biggest reasons we can't seem to stop adoring her is because she's one of the few celebrities who seems to actually say what they mean. In the December issue of Marie Claire, the Office Christmas Party actress sat down for an interview that covers a range of subjects, from why she's so madly in love with husband Justin Theroux to what motivated her to write her incredible op-ed for the Huffington Post earlier this year. Although Jennifer tells writer Kimberly Cutter that she's "not completely sure" what she's doing or where her career is headed next, we have a sneaking suspicion that she'll succeed at whatever she tries. FremantleMedia and "Moulin Rouge" screenwriter Craig Pearce are teaming to develop a television drama series adaptation of Kimberly Cutter's best-selling novel "The Maid" about Joan of Arc.
The story revolves a young peasant girl who believes she is sent by God to save France.
The show will tell the final years of the Hundred Years' War by chronicling them from Joan's perspective, as well as the international noble houses which battled for control of the French throne.
Meanwhile, AMC has given a ten episode, first season order to show runner Chris Mundy's crime drama "Low Winter Sun" starring Mark Strong ("Sherlock Holmes," "Zero Dark Thirty") and Lennie James ("The Walking Dead," "Snatch").
An adaptation of the 2006 British mini-series, the story follows the events that unfold after a Detroit detective murders a cop and seemingly gets away with it. In reality, he activates forces that pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld.

The newly 18-year-old Miley Cyrus chatted with Marie Claire magazine, speaking extensively for the first time since her parents announced their intention to divorce. And, for the first time since she was recorded smoking from a bong.
Cyrus was contrite about the videotaped inhaling, which involved the legally-sold herb salvia. When reminded that there are plenty of teenagers out there puffing on more serious fumes, she responded, “But they’re not Miley Cyrus… They’re not role models. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for.”
But what does she stand for?...
