The Crown Season 6 Part II is here. And with it, the recreation of Kate Middleton’s sheer dress from college. Worn in a 2002 charity fashion show, the now-Princess of Wales’s outfit is believed to have played a pivotal role in bringing her and Prince William together. Ahead, details on what happened to the dress Kate wore. Plus, what The Crown’s Meg Bellamy had to say about recreating Kate’s memorable look.
The sheer dress worn by Kate Middleton sold at auction in 2011
Where is the sheer dress Kate wore at St. Andrew’s University now? No one knows for sure. It sold at auction to a private buyer nine years after the now-41-year-old wore it down the runway (via CNN).
The dress sold for just over $125,000 — 10 times more than predicted — in March 2011, the month before the Prince and Princess of Wales’ royal wedding.

An unexpected thing happens in the series finale of The Crown, which Netflix released today: Queen Elizabeth is the main character.
This would seem to be the most predictable thing in the world, right? The Crown began with Elizabeth’s unexpected ascension to the British throne at the age of 25, and it concludes a little over 50 years later. First Claire Foy, then Olivia Colman, and most recently Imelda Staunton have been playing the protagonist, haven’t they?

Most stories that begin with “saw something on Twitter” don’t end well.
But for Meg Bellamy, the actress who’ll make her debut playing Kate Middleton on Netflix’s “The Crown” December 14, a social media post about an open call audition became a life-changing experience.
“I was a big fan of the show at the time,” the newbie actress, who didn’t even have an agent when she saw the post, told IndieWire. “I just thought, ‘Nothing to lose! I’m going to apply!’ And as soon as I applied, my neighbor actually texted me and said, ‘You should apply for this.'”
One might assume that if random neighbors are telling you to throw your hat in the ring, Bellamy’s resemblance to the future Princess of Wales was often remarked upon, but she says it was never mentioned to her. The parallels only became obvious when the...

“The Crown” series finale premiere in London on Tuesday evening brought out the cast and creatives behind the hit Netflix show as well as a smattering of other familiar faces keen to catch a sneak peek of the last-ever episode.
Imelda Staunton, who plays the last iteration of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth and sixth seasons of the series, led the red carpet. Despite the chaos around her — from reporters clamoring to ask questions to photographers shouting her name — the star told Variety her focus had always been on the character.
“I don’t look at maelstrom,” she said. “It doesn’t interest me. I just look at the script, look at the part, go to work.”
Newcomer Meg Bellamy, who joined the series as a college-age Kate Middleton for Season 6, was more emotional about getting the part, which also happened to be her first ever professional acting job.

The Crown is preparing for the end, and the trailer for the final six episodes brings to life what creator Peter Morgan has told audiences to expect from the hit Netflix drama: A love letter to the Queen.
The final episodes will draw to a close the genre-defining prestige royal saga that has been on screens since 2016, says the logline, and the footage centers around Queen Elizabeth, played by Imelda Staunton, as she battles sentimentality that the royal family is out of touch with the country, while reflecting on her reign as the longest-serving monarch in history and the life she put aside to become Queen.
In a poignant moment that speaks to the late Queen, The Crown‘s monarch says, “I will always be by your side.”
The series paused filming on the final season when Queen Elizabeth II died on Sept. 8, 2022 at the age of 96.

One of the most polarizing series on Netflix is gearing up for its last episodes.
The first four episodes of The Crown Season 6 launched earlier this month and were as controversial as ever.
Will the series be able to go out on a more low-key note with the second batch of episodes?
We're not sure that's possible, but it would be interesting.
The last batch of episodes are set to premiere on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Once again, the hit drama is doing the time warp by leaping forward to find William (Ed McVey) and Harry (Luther Ford) growing up while trying to come to terms with the tragic loss of their mother, Diana.
In Part 2, "Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother's death as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion," Netflix teases.

Almost seven years to the day since it began, we’re about to give a royal wave of farewell to Netflix drama The Crown, but series six might be its most eye-opening yet, as its first part (out on November 16) deals with the events surrounding the tragic death of Princess Diana.
Some critics’ hackles might be up already after the show previously attracted condemnation for historical inaccuracies, so it will be especially interesting to see how the show covers such an emotive and important event in royal history, and just where the story ends when the final episodes are released on 14th December.
Even so, many fans will be disappointed not to see more recent events get The Crown treatment, like that Prince Andrew interview and Harry and Meghan’s very public royal uncoupling, but is it so far beyond the realms of possibility that the show might have a...

U.K. commercial broadcaster ITV is ready to step into the breach in case of U.S. programming schedules being impacted down the line because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
“We are hoping for a swift resolution [to the strikes]” said Julian Bellamy, MD of ITV’s production arm ITV Studios. “In terms of the broader point, one of our strengths is a strong U.K. and international pipeline and we do have a distribution arm that offers a catalogue of 90,000 hours. So we’re in a good position to take advantage of any opportunities that arise.”
“Or to just to help,” added ITV CEO Carolyn McCall. “What we’ll be doing is to see whether we can help fill their schedules. We’re not gonna be charging premiums, by the way, we think we should be offering our customers what they [want] from our catalogue if they require it.”

ITV bosses have provided color on how the U.S. labor strikes are impacting the UK broadcaster and why they walked away from a £1B ($1.3B) deal to acquire The Traitors production group All3Media.
On a call with journalists this morning, ITV Studios Managing Director Julian Bellamy said the writers and actors strikes would not have “a material impact” on his production and sales division’s 2023 financials, stressing the division produces across genres in multiple territories.
“Saying that, if the strike goes into the autumn, it will potentially impact on the start of [ITV Studios] productions” in the U.S., he added. “Obviously, we’re hoping for a swift resolution.”
Bellamy was asked if U.S. networks had approached ITV Studios, which has a catalog of about 90,000 hours, to help fill scheduling gaps created by the strikes. “We’re not seeing that,” he responded. “We work with them all the time on originals,...
