The Harvey Weinstein scandal has already led to some soul searching in Hollywood, as victims of harassment are finally feeling emboldened to break their silence and report their own stories. Now, Hollywood is seeing its next major target: Roy Price, head of Amazon Studios.
As first reported by Variety, Amazon has placed Price on leave of absence. COO Albert Cheng has been named interim boss.
“Roy Price is on leave of absence effective immediately,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement, also supplied to IndieWire. The statement also added, “We are reviewing our options for the projects we have with The Weinstein Co.”

Apparently “inspired by true events” (or so the opening title card says), Check Point is the latest film from Thomas J. Churchill who – until now – has worked extensively in the horror genre. Here he not only brings his experience to the action movie genre, but also some acting talent too – the film features Jason Vorhees actor Kane Hodder and former Michael Myers, Tyler Mane, too! But that pair are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Check Point‘s cast: just look at the cast list above – it reads like a who’s who of genre talent. 2016 was chock-full of big blockbuster releases, many of which either failed to make a sizable profit or were incredibly divisive among audiences. But out of the ashes rose a beautiful flower: the indie film. Yes, independent movies had a wonderful year, some even breaking per-theater records and making their way onto my favorites of 2016 list, which also includes a Denis Villeneuve film, a comic book series, collectibles, an excellent comprehensive horror documentary, and more.
Arrival: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival is a beautiful take on language and how communication (or the lack of proper communication) can either doom or ensure our survival as human beings on this planet. The way Villeneuve tells a story is the perfect fit for a film like Arrival because its focus is small but the ideas are big, much like his previous works, Enemy, Sicario, and Prisoners.
My hope is that the takeaway from Arrival...

With Arrow set to go on its midseason break soon, a surprising casting addition has been made which we’ll see pay off when The CW series returns next year. That is Tom Amandes as The Calculator (yes, that’s actually the name of a DC Comics character), a villain who is described by the network as a criminal mastermind and technical genius.
The Calculator, whose real name is Noah Kuttler, uses his advanced skills in computer science and internet manipulation to blackmail Roy (Colton Haynes) out of retirement to do his bidding, which leads to an epic battle with Team Arrow.
This casting explains why the former Arsenal is going to return to Arrow then, something fans have been wondering and speculating about ever since it was revealed earlier this week.

Question: When will we learn who is in the grave from the Arrow season premiere? —Kyle
Ausiello: Though the producers are being purposefully vague about the timing of that reveal, here’s something to at least whet your whistle. Co-showrunner Wendy Mericle told Matt Mitovich, “There might be” additional flash-forwards “here and there… right around midseason,” that certainly will add to the “Who dies?” mystery. “We’re definitely toying with that,” the Ep added, “and when and if...

1989's Field Of Dreams might just be Kevin Costner's finest hour. So why does the film still manage to hit so hard?

So began Arrow‘s first look at how Oliver, after three weeks of (herrrrrrb-influenced) indoctrination, has acclimated to his life with the League, as Al Sah-Him/Wareeth al Ghul. (The members’ laundry name tags must be huge!) To be fair, Stephen Amell himself warned us on the Twitter, “I’d like to apologize in advance for everything I do” in this week’s episode, and you can now see where he was coming from.

To be fair, Stephen Amell himself warned us on the Twitter, “I’d like to apologize in advance for everything I do” in this week’s episode, and you can now see where he was coming from.

Question: Longtime reader here. Now that Nina Dobrev is leaving The Vampire Diaries, does that mean Elena will be taking the vampire cure? Thanks! — Kristen
Ausiello: It certainly seems like Elena’s jonesing to take the cure, doesn’t it, Kristen? (Especially after that clip we posted with her dreaming of having children with Damon.) We can’t confirm that Elena will end her run as a human or a vampire, but know this: Damon’s decision to...

A great many people think Blade Runner is the greatest science fiction film ever made. It’s certainly one of the best; the Metropolis of its time when it comes to the realization of future cityscapes on film. Flying police cars aside, the main thing that rings true is that it was one of the first films to show a “used” future; a future where over-population and global warming feature as key elements. Of the four or so versions of the film that exist, from test print to original theatrical release to directors cut, the most complete, albeit with a running time of just one minute longer than some of the others, is that of The Final Cut, which the BFI have chosen to close its Days Of Fear And Wonder science fiction season. Reactions roll in following this year’s BAFTA nominations.
Working Title’s Eric Fellner, producer of The Theory of Everything and Trash, has told Screen he was “surprised but thrilled” by his film’s 11 nominations.
“I’m thrilled about Theory’s ten nominations because we have such a deep talent pool here in the UK and this film is 100% British,” said Fellner.
“I’m thrilled to see that we got recognized in some of the craft departments, which can be hard to get into with so many big films around. A great film always starts with a great director so I’m very glad James [Marsh] got recognition. Every nomination is a privilege and an honour.”
Fellner added of Trash’s Best Film Not in the English Language nomination: “That’s very gratifying. Stephen [Daldry] has made a beautiful film

Reckless Review
CBS‘ latest offering, Reckless, at least has the positive quality of not dancing around with what sort of nonsense it is. It lets you know where things are going right with the introductory scene. A woman is pulled over by a police officer, and she may have been drinking, but she’ll do anything not to get a ticket. You may raise your eyebrows as the officer has her cuffed to a fence and begins to take advantage of the situation, but wait, it’s all okay, because this is just a little sexual roleplay between consenting adults. (Whew. Tee hee hee. Oooo. Steamy.)
This leads us into the show’s main thrust (ha), which is to sidestep the majority of the establishment requirements by focusing on one story for at least a good while. We quickly meet Jamie Sawyer (Anna Wood), a defense attorney who is working...

We train our sights on the year 1996, and the 25 underappreciated films it has to offer...
Independence Day managed to revive both the alien invasion movie and the disaster flick in 1996, and just about every other mainstream picture released that year lived in its saucer-shaped shadow.
Yet beyond the aerial battles of Independence Day, the flying cows in Twister, and the high-wire antics of Tom Cruise in Brian De Palma's Mission: Impossible, there sat an entire library of lesser-known and underappreciated movies.
As part of our attempts to highlight the unsung greats of the 90s, here's our selection of 25 such films from 1996 - the year chess champion Garry Kasparov lost to the might of the computer Deep Blue, and the year comedy star Jim Carrey starred in an unexpectedly dark tale of obsession...

Aaaaand we're back! The dead were up and walking again on Sunday night, as we rejoined the cast of "The Walking Dead" in their prison-dwelling, zombie-slaying lives of leisure. It's been six months since we watched Woodbury go down in the big finale of Season 3, and about as much time has passed in the Walking Dead universe — giving the remaining survivors plenty of time to make friends, build a community, and possibly become a bit too secure in the ability of their barbed wire and big walls to keep the dangerous world at bay. Here's what went down in the long-awaited premiere of Season 4.
To begin with, things are pretty hunky-dory at Chez Survivor. They've got al fresco dining, a robust garden, even a working iPod with which to drown out the gnashing of walkers whilst you hoe a row. And whatever early (off-screen) growing pains the prison community might've experienced,...

They don't make funny movies any more, right? Wrong. If you're looking for a laugh, then here are some you may have missed...
For this list, blame The Hangover Part III. It was whilst walking out of that film that I got into a chat with someone, who was bemoaning the lack of genuinely funny movie comedies. Certainly, big budget Hollywood comedies have no end of problems right now - with the occasional exception - but I couldn't help thinking of the many neglected gems that had gone through my DVD player over the past decade or so.
As such, I started to put this list together. It's inevitably subjective, as one person's comedy is another person's snore fest. But I've tried to dig out a mix of comedies from the past three decades that have either flown under the radar completely, or...

Friends for over 30 years, Stevie Nicks and Dave Stewart joined forces in 2010 to make her first solo record in almost a decade. In Your Dreams was recorded at the Fleetwood Mac member's home in California over a 10-month period, and spawned a behind-the-scenes documentary Stevie Nicks: In Your Dreams.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the Curzon cinema in Mayfair before last night's (September 16) UK premiere of the documentary - produced and directed by the musicians - Nicks tells the story of how Stewart convinced her to commit what she has since described as "the happiest year of my life" to camera.
"Well, [it came about] because we were doing it at my house. When I first asked Dave [Stewart] to come over and talk to me about producing the record, I had decided never to do another solo record. So, I wrote 'Moonlight' the year before, in Australia, and that's when I...

With Trask Industries "celebrating its 50th anniversary" by launching a super informative website (it also ties into "X-Men: Days of Future Past"—sshhh!), suddently Sentinels are all the rage! People can't stop talking about the giant, purple, mutant-hunting robots—and rightfully so! Need I reiterate that they are giant purple robots? It does not get much cooler than that.
The robotic foes have been a thorn in the X-Men's side since their early days, and the mechanical menaces have popped up in everything from video games to cartoons over the franchise's 50 years of existence. Truthfully, we could easily do more than one Required Reading post about the Sentinels—and we could even throw in a Required Watching or two ("Final Decision" from "X-Men" season one!). But when it comes down to the most essential Sentinel stories, here are the five that made the cut.

Jefferson Airplane: After Bathing at Baxter's (RCA)
This was the Airplane's second LP of 1967, and on it they took the studio freedom their two huge hit singles had earned them and went wild and unsupervised, making a real psychedelic album rather than the carefully contrived simulation of psychedelia that had been Surrealistic Pillow. The result had more avant-garde weirdness than hit singles (RCA had unrealistic hopes for "Watch Her Ride"), but the album actually coheres far better; for all the stylistic disjunctions and studio effects and Jorma Kaukonen's often-abrasive guitar sounds, and for that matter the nine-minute instrumental trio improvisation "Spare Chaynge," it flows organically, creating its own logic.
Cream: Disraeli Gears (I'm not even a Cream fan and I still have to acknowledge the brilliance of "Strange Brew," "Sunshine of Your Love," "Tales of Brave Ulysses," and "Swlabr")
Moody Blues: Days of Future Passed (early blast of prog-rock,...

To mark the launch of its new game, Stratego Sci-Fi has surveyed more than 2,000 Britons to chart the Stratego Sci-Fi 100 – the nation’s top 100 stars of the sci-fi world – as well as a separate poll charting the best sci-fi battles from the silver screen – and has crowned Superman the greatest sci-fi character of all time
Following up the Man of Steel in 2nd place in the Stratego Sci-Fi 100 was Harrison Ford’s gruff but lovable rogue Han Solo, with Frank Oz’s jedi master Yoda coming third, both representing Star Wars in the top three and rounding it out firmly in George Lucas’ favour. Steven Spielberg’s E.T may be one of the most lovable characters of all time, but only made it to fourth in the list, followed by Will Smith’s Agent Jay from the hugely popular Men in Black series at number five.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

How impressive was Mrs. Obama this week during the Biggest Loser workout at the White House? When I first heard about the contestant, their families and the First Lady having a workout with Bob and Dolvett, I assumed the guys would go easy on them and on her. How wrong was I? Mrs. Obama was an inspiration in talking to the contestants about her Let's Move! initiative and in her personal fitness. Plus, how cool is it that she's a fan of the show? Because of my shooting schedule at Days, I was unable to travel with the show to D.
