Exclusive: Earlier this morning, Amazon revealed that it was laying off several hundred employees across Prime Video and Amazon Studios as part of a review of its business.
Details have emerged about the cuts, which were described by one source close to the company as a “bloodbath”. Senior execs let go include Nancy Cotton, Arturo Interian, Marcy Kaplan, Chris Castallo and Uri Fleming across different divisions.
Most of the exits are a result of the integration of Lindsay Sloane’s MGM Scripted Television team alongside MGM+ and the Barry Poznick-led MGM Alternative TV under Chris Brearton, VP, Corporate Strategy, Prime Video and Studios. Sloane and Poznick’s teams will continue to work closely with the studios teams in developing for Prime Video and also will continue to produce for outside networks and streamers.

NBC is closing the loop on its new spring-summer 2019 scripted series by cancelling freshman drama The InBetween.
The news is not surprising. The InBetween, starring Harriet Dyer, did not debut until after the end of the 2018-19 broadcast season. It was the lowest-rated NBC summer 2019 series in Live+Same Day ratings, something for which delayed viewing bumps could not compensate.
The InBetween‘s core creative team already has moved on to another project. In a competitive situation with multiple networks bidding, CBS in September landed with penalty Queens, a police drama from The InBetween creator/executive producer Moira Kirland, executive producer Matt Gross and studio Universal TV, where Gross is under an overall deal.
The InBetween joins NBC’s new midseason 2019 series, comedy Abby’s and dramas The Village and The Enemy Within, which also were canceled after one season.
The InBetween centered on Cassie Bedford (Dyer), who was born with a rare ability.

Emil Rensing, the former chief digital officer for cable network Epix, was sentenced on Friday to a more than four years in prison after being found guilty of fraud.
Rensing was charged in April 2016 with stealing more than $7 million from Epix over a five-year period, along with wire fraud and identity theft. Rensing pleaded guilty last year.

Back in May, we learned that former The Walking Dead showrunner Glenn Mazzara was developing a sequel series to classic horror pic The Omen, titled Damien, and now Lifetime has announced that it’s ordering the show straight to series with a six-episode pickup.
Damien will center on the adult life of Damien Thorn, the demonic child from the 1976 film who has grown up without knowledge of the satanic forces shaping his existence. When his past catches up to him, Damien must come to terms with the truth – that he is destined to become the Antichrist, a force of unspeakable evil feared by all humankind.
Said Lifetime exec VP Rob Sharenow:
“We are thrilled to be bringing a contemporary version of The Omen’s Damien Thorn back to the screen. Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium...

Fox TV Studios is beefing up its scripted programming ranks with the appointments of Con Artists Prods. president Nancy Cotton as senior vp and Matt Loze as vp.
Both will report to David Madden, executive vp scripted programming.
"Nancy and Matt are both extraordinary executives and people I can't wait to work with," Madden said. At Fox TV Studios, Cotton will work alongside senior vp Marney Hochman. Lisa Demberg, who was senior vp scripted programming at the company for the past six years, is transitioning into a consulting role to spend more time with her daughter. She will focus on Fox TV Studios' made-for-TV movies.
For the past five years, Cotton was president of the TV division at Mel Gibson's Icon Prods., which in 2005 was rechristened Con Artists Prods.

Lifetime has given the green light to The Dive From Clausen's Pier, an original movie based on the best-selling novel by O. Henry Award winner Ann Packer. John Wierick (NBC's The Matthew Shepard Story) adapted the book, and veteran director Harry Winer is on board to direct. Dive centers on Carrie, whose fiance suffers severe head injures when he dives into shallow water during a Memorial Day picnic. Facing the fear of marrying a quadriplegic and pressure from her family and friends' expectations to do it, Carrie flees her hometown and starts a new life in New York. Casting is under way for the film, which hails from Con Artists Prods. -- the TV arm of Mel Gibson's Icon Prods. -- and Fox TV Studios. Brenda Friend (CBS' Joan of Arc) is exec producing with Icon's Bruce Davey and Nancy Cotton. Fox TV Studios' David Madden and Lisa Demberg will supervise for the production company.
