Frank Miller, creative comic book legend and co-creator of recent Netflix series Cursed, is certainly no stranger to controversy. Thus, he now finds himself hit by a lawsuit from a former co-producer, who’s seeking damages estimated as high as $25 million.
Stephen L’Heureux, a producer from 2014 sequel film Sin City: A Dame to Kill For—which Miller co-wrote and co-directed with Robert Rodriguez—is claiming economic interference and defamation in a suit against Miller and co-defendant Silenn Thomas, an associate producer on that picture, who was named CEO of Frank Miller Inc. this past August. However, this particular set of grievances centers on the alleged obstruction of would-be adaptation projects of Miller’s Dark Horse Comics-published titles, specifically 1990-1992 future-dystopian cyber-noir crime comic, Hard Boiled (pictured in the title image), and a Sin City television series, both of which L’Heureux claims to have paid total ownership for the developmental rights.

A dispute over rights to a Sin City TV series and a Hard Boiled film have turned hardcore between Cursed co-creator Frank Miller and producer Stephen L’Heureux.
Hardcore to the tune of more than $25 million, as a defamation and economic-interference lawsuit from the Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For producer is seeking. Asserting that he has long owned the relevant rights to Miller’s iconic Sin City and the 1990-debuting Hard Boiled, L’Heureux claims Miller and co-defendant Silenn Thomas have thwarted big- and small-screen adaptations with the likes of MGM and David Ellison’s Skydance Media.

Exclusive: The trio of investor-philanthropist Vicky L. Patel, producer Steve Barnett and singer-actor-writer Alan Powell have teamed to launch Monarch Media, a new film and TV production company. The plan is to develop and produce 2-3 feature films a year in all genres and budget levels, as well as make a push into developing TV series and live event/theatrical properties.
Among the first projects in the Monarch pipeline is Deathrow-mance, a film written by Nick Ball and John Niven and based on an original concept from Tommy Wirkola (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Benedicte Westbye. Monarch optioned the script via its film fund and is now packaging the project, which will be directed by Wirkola.

Sin City is being developed as a TV series at Legendary with Frank Miller attached and Robert Rodriguez circling.
It’s time to prove to your friends you’re worth a damn. Sometimes that means killing, and sometimes that means rebooting a whole of intellectual property. Such is the case with the new Sin City TV series in the works! The news broke late on Friday that Legendary Television has partnered with Frank Miller, and potentially Robert Rodriguez, to spinoff the popular graphic novel series and film franchise for a new television series set in the scuzzy world of Basin City.
Broken by Deadline, it looks like the Sin City television series will be a potential continuation of the movie franchise, or at least a blending of Miller’s storylines from the comic books and all-new narratives. Described as an “anthology series,” the Sin City show has...

Grab your monochromatic glasses and prep your throat to growl a lot, because we’re going back to Sin City, folks! And I ain’t talking about Las Vegas, either. Yeah, I’m talking about Frank Miller’s comic book series, the one that spawned the warmly received 2005 film adaptation and its sequel. And now, we’re getting another follow-up, but this time on the small screen.
The crime noir show was successfully optioned by Legendary this week, who’ve agreed to produce at least one season for a streaming service. They’re also courting the films’ co-director Robert Rodriguez to return, too, but that’s not confirmed just yet. What is confirmed, though, is that Legendary has also brought on some of Miller’s people, like Silenn Thomas and Stephen L’Heureux, the latter of whom produced A Dame To Kill For, which I’d like to forget exists.

The king of Wakanda is becoming a samurai! That's right, Black Panther's Chadwick Boseman is starring in a new historical film about Yasuke, the first African to ascend to samurai status in Japan. According to Deadline, producers Erik Feig, Mike De Luca, and Stephen L'Heureux are teaming up with Boseman to bring the legendary story to life. Screenwriter Doug Miro - who cowrote Netflix's Narcos - will pen the script.
As the story of Yasuke goes, he was taken from his village in Africa and enslaved to serve the Portuguese in India. In 1579, he was brought to Japan as an indentured bodyguard where he found favor with warlord Nobunaga. Around that time, Nobunaga was looking for ways to unite his fractured empire and employed Yasuke to help him. Eventually, that earned Yasuke the samurai sword and title, making him the first non-Asian to do so.

Mattel is teaming with Spolipsist Film to turn the fan favorite property "Dino-Riders" into a live-action film franchise they hope will rival Paramount and Hasbro's "Transformers".
Launched as an animated adventure series in 1988, though only running for one season, the story follows a futuristic war in which an evolved human race named the Valorians try to save the galaxy from intergalactic warlord Krulos and his Rulon minions.
The Valorians travel back to prehistoric times and use their psychic powers to speak to the dinosaurs and enlist their help to defeat the Rulons.
No writers are on board just yet, but Alissa Phillis and Stephen L'Heureux are producing and the tone is said to be a bit more family movie oriented than the "Transformers" films.

The Soska Sisters, the twin sister horror film directing duo behind "American Mary" and "Dead Hooker in a Trunk," have signed on to helm the film adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada's comic "Painkiller Jane".
The series follows Jane, a cop who joins her best friend/partner in going undercover into an interconnected drug ring. When her true identity is exposed, she is tortured and discovers that she has supernormal regenerative powers bordering on invulnerability - minor ones heal in seconds, major ones in minutes. There's a catch though, she still feels the pain of her injuries before they heal.
Palmiotti and Stephen L'Heureux are producing this new adaptation which plans to be an indie action thriller. It follows both a SyFy TV movie and subsequent short-lived TV series based on the property.

Here at Dread Central we love us some Soska Sisters. Good thing for us they love us right back! Some breaking news coming out of the San Diego Comic-Con pertaining to their next project has arrived! Read on for details.
THR is reporting that the Soska Sisters, the twin horror movie directors behind the cult slasher American Mary and the upcoming See No Evil 2, have signed on to helm the adaptation of Painkiller Jane, a comic created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada.
Palmiotti, via his Paperfilms banner, and Solipsist Films’ Stephen L'Heureux are producing.
The story centers on the titular heroine, a cop, who, along with with her best friend and partner, goes undercover into an interconnected drug ring. The Soska sisters, who directed American Mary, are steering Painkiller Jane back to the screen...
News
A movie take on the Painkiller Jane comics is heading to the big screen, it's been confirmed. The comic was created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, and Palmiotti is involved with the movie as producer (along with Stephen L'Heureux).
It tells the story of a cop - that'd be Painkiller Jane - who goes undercover, only for her identity to be compromised. She's tortured, with the consequence of that being a high tolerance for pain, and strange powers.
Bringing her story to the big screen will be the Soska Sisters, who previously put together the movie American Mary. They will be overseeing the third screen take on Painkiller Jane, following a SyFy Channel movie and a series, that starred Kristanna Loken.
More on Painkiller Jane as we hear it...

Evidently convinced there's still plenty of life in Hollywood's fixation for anything undead, Solipsist Films has bought the rights to Top Cow's yet-to-be-published graphic novel In The Dust.
George Mahaffey and Christian Duce created the 165-page title, due out next year, with Mahaffey enlisted for screenplay duties.
As per HeatVision's report, "the story is set against the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, when 'black blizzards' obscured the Midwest and prairies. The plot sees a G-Man investigating the disappearances of entire families from small towns during these storms, uncovering the existence of an army of vampires that are using them as cover to ravage the countryside. The agent is forced to team up with remnants of Al Capone's gang to save Chicago when the vampires turn their attention to the Windy City."
Solipsist's Stephen L'Heureux - who recently set up the vampire comic Undying Love at Warner Bros - is producing the adaptation.

Now vampires may have overstayed their welcome throughout the past few years, but a big screen adaptation of a forthcoming graphic novel just might be fresh enough to make the overexposed monsters feel fresh again. Heat Vision has word that producer Stephen L'Heureux and his Solopsist Films banner has picked up the film rights to In the Dust, a graphic novel from Top Cow slated for release in 2012. Co-creator George Mahaffey will write the big screen adaptation of a story set against the 1930's Dust Bowl, when “black blizzards” obscured the Midwest and prairies. Guess where the vampires come from this time? The film will follow a G-Man investigating the disappearances of entire families from small towns during these storms, uncovering the existence of an army of vampires that are using them as cover to ravage the countryside. The agent is forced to team up with remnants of Al Capone...

Among the comic book movies coming in 2012 is the Superman revamp Man of Steel, which has just added another cast member.
Harry Lennix (pictured) - known chiefly for his roles as Commander Lock in the second and third Matrix movies and Boyd Langton in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse series - will be playing a military officer called General Swanwick, according to Variety.
While we don't know just how Lennix's character will impact the storyline, we may now have the answer to what Batman TV series icon Adam West has been doing near a UK filming location for The Dark Knight Rises.
Earlier rumors suggested the actor would make a cameo appearance in Christopher Nolan's third Batman flick, largely because he'd been seen at or near Wollaton Hall, Nottingham, which is doubling for Wayne Manor in the upcoming film.

Comic book movies and vampire stories have dominated Hollywood of late, so what happens when you combine the two into one tale? If you're the folks at Warner Bros., you get "Undying Love."
Heat Vision reports that the WB, Stephen L'Heureux and Benderspink (run by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink) are producing an adaptation of Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman's recently launched Image Comics series "Undying Love," a vampire tale with all the blood and romance you might expect, but also with a healthy heaping of Chinese monster lore for good measure.
"Undying Love" starts out as a fairly reasonable and relatable "boy falls for girl" love story. Except in this case, the boy is a former soldier, and the girl just so happens to be a blood-craving vampire. In order for the two of them to be together, the soldier must confront the vampire who created the love of his life,...

Jessica Alba talks to Robert Rodriguez "all the time" about "Sin City 2," and that's probably a good call, considering Rodriguez sounds like he could stand up and put the sequel together with Frank Miller at any moment. Speaking at the South By Southwest Film Festival, the "Sin City" co-director said he's waiting for the right time — but with a new script in hand, he doesn't want to wait all that long.
"It's only about timing," Rodriguez told MTV News. "It could happen very soon. It could happen a little later, It could happen even later. But probably sooner is better."
It's been half a decade since "Sin City" first premiered in theaters, but he's "about to get a new script" for the follow-up and both the film's producer Stephen L'Heureux and Clive Owen previously indicated that filming could begin as soon as this year. Early this week I along with some other online journalists got a chance to go to Austin TX and visit the set of "Predators," which Robert Rodriguez is producing. While I can't report right now about our set visit, what I can report is about what producer Rodriguez had to say about his upcoming slate and of course talk a bit about (Its Coming, Its Happening, Its Still On Its Way) "Sin City 2." As most of you know when It’s been 4 years since Sin City was released and the last thing that was heard about the sequel was from producer Stephen L'Heureux who said the film was scheduled to go before the cameras in the second half of 2010, with Robert Rodriguez back to direct, and Frank Miller co-directing. And every time someone asks someone from the cast it’s always the same answer, "I know it’s coming" blah blah.

Sin City producer Stephen L'Heureux's Solipsist Films has acquired the rights to Ed Laroche's graphic novel Almighty.
According to Mania, Black Hawk Down screenwriter Ken Nolan is attached to write the script and potential directors are being approached.
Created, written and drawn by Laroche, Almighty takes place in 2098 and follows a female motorcycling mercenary called Fale, who is hired to rescue a girl and bring her home across a third world America - "a fractured landscape of segregated zones driven by neo-tribalism."
Laroche said: "At its heart Almighty is a pursuit story. As the story unfolds there are other things that are attached to it but at the core of it, a girl has been kidnapped and someone has hired a killer to find her and bring her home." The official website for Almighty is here.
Mania adds that Solipsist has also picked up screen rights on two other titles.

“Sin City 2” producer Stephen L'Heureux’s Solipsist Films has picked up the options for two more comic book adaptations: Joe Casey and Caleb Gerard’s “Full Moon Fever” and Glen Brunswick and John Romita Jr.’s “The Gray Area.”
According to Mania.com, Casey and Brunswick are both attached to adapt their respective titles.

Sir Anthony Hopkins has been cast as Odin in Kenneth Branagh's Thor, according to Variety. Odin is the father of the title character and ruler of Asgard, home of the Norse gods. As I suspected, earlier reports that Brian Blessed had landed the role were untrue and more than likely just lobbying by fans. Production on the film, with Chris Hemsworth in the title role, is to start in January, with release slated for May 20, 2011.
Producer Stephen L'Heureux has told Mania.com that production on Sin City 2 will begin in the later half of next year. The film will be based on a script by Frank Miller - creator of the original graphic novel - who will again co-direct with Robert Rodriguez.
Variety reports that Columbia Pictures has hired Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen to pen the script for Men in Black 3, with filming scheduled to start sometime next year.

Once again, I'll believe it when I see it, but there's more talk that Sin City 2 will film this year. But there are a couple new wrinkles this time. Mania reports that producer Stephen L'Heureux outlines a production start sometime in the second half of 2010, but it won't be based on any of Frank Miller's comics.
Instead, the script will be completely original, and Milller will again co-direct with Robert Rodriguez. That's not a surprise. But why the new script? Hadn't Miller already spent years developing the sequel using his graphic novel series as inspiration? If not, that helps explain part of the delay. Miller has since moved on to working on a screenplay for his Dark Horse comic Hard Boiled, according to L'Heureux.

I feel like I've written this same story once or twice before? This time, Mania.com has a scoop from producer Stephen L'Heureux of Solipsist Films, who says that Sin City 2 "will go into production in the second half of 2010." But how sure is he? He also confirmed that this sequel would be co-directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez (thankfully, considering The Spirit was awful). Does this mean Sin City 2 may actually, finally, start shooting next year? Who knows? The long-awaited "Sin City 2" will finally begin production in the second half of 2010, to be followed by a possible adaptation of Frank Miller’s "Hard Boiled."
According to a report on Mania, “Sin City 2” producer Stephen L'Heureux confirmed that the story will be based upon an original script by Miller, who will once again co-direct the sequel with Robert Rodriguez .
Additionally, L'Heureux revealed that Miller is writing the screenplay adaptation for “Hard Boiled”, which Miller is also attached to direct.
Originally published by Dark Horse in 1990, “Hard Boiled” paired Miller and artist Geof Darrow on an oversized three issue miniseries. The ultra violent story follows an insurance investigator named Carl Seltz who discovers that he is a cyborg who may be the only hope of an enslaved robot population.
However, with “Sin City 2” on deck and “Hard Boiled” still at an early stage of development, it may not happen immediately.
