Headed by film finance veterans Burton Richie and Gregory Segal, as well as multihyphenates Kevin Pollak and Jason Alexander, Heretic has been instrumental in the funding and artistic development process for many projects, including the upcoming documentary “The Staremaster” and an untitled Lewis Black feature. Heretic Films has been producing critically acclaimed and award-winning features since 2013, including the Kristen Wiig dramedy “Welcome to Me,” the John Hawkes-Elle Fanning drama “Low Down” and Pollak’s documentary “Misery Loves.

Should've Been Romeo adds Ed Asner to Paul Ben-Victor, Carol Kane indie Edward Asner has boarded the Marc Bennett-helmed film which tells of a middle-aged potato chip company pitchman who loses his job and is also faced with his grandfather being dropped off on his doorstep by his mother, who's on her way to a singles cruise. Phillybrook Films' Gregory Segal produces. Asner, known mostly for voice his role in Disney Pixar's sensational Up animated family adventure, joined Hallmark's Two In telepic recently. His other credits include TV's Hawaii Five-o and Hot in Cleveland. He's completed work in Dean Pollack's Audrey alongside Sybil Temtchine and Ed Quinn, and is in post-production phase for Aaron Pope's The Liberator actioner, starring Lou Ferrigno, Peta Wilson and Jessica Anders.

Smith (Saw II and Saw III), Leerhsen (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and McCord (Day of the Dead) will play actresses unknowingly cast in a Japanese snuff film.
Memoirs of a Geisha actors Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Eugenia Yuan will play a director and producer, respectively. Karl Yune will play the women's co-star, and Jonathon Trent will play the boyfriend of McCord's character.
Victor Garcia's feature is based on the script by 2007 Slamdance Horror Screenplay Competition winners Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby. Producing are Maverick's Mark Morgan, Guy Oseary and Cheri Wozniak, Angel Baby's Gregory Segal and John Andrew Gallagher and Slamdance's Peter Baxter.

NEW YORK -- Madonna and Guy Oseary's Maverick Red production genre label and Angel Baby Entertainment are producing Digger, a grave-digging horror film directed by Angel Baby partner John A. Gallagher.
The feature, set for a late-summer production in Connecticut, is the second co-production between the new Maverick Films genre arm and Angel Baby. The first, Slamdance horror screenplay competition winner Slaughter, from writers Nathan Brookes and Bobby Darby, begins production in July.
Digger follows Joshua Bauer, a man forced to dig graves by hand as a youth who seeks revenge through a brutal killing spree. The producers hope to launch Bauer as a new horror icon.
Angel Baby's Gregory Segal and Gallagher will serve as producers with Maverick Films' Oseary, Mark Morgan and Eric Thompson. Cheri Wozniak, who brought the project into the new horror label, will executive produce. The screenplay is written by Stephen Lancellotti.
Gallagher's directing credits include Blue Moon, starring Ben Gazzara, which won a best feature award at the Avignon/New York Film Festival, and The Deli, starring Gretchen Mol and Chris Noth.
