Exclusive: Laurie Zaks and her Rosewood Television banner are adapting a series of novels from Roselle Lim after striking a development deal with ITV Studios America.
Zaks, who was behind popular ABC drama series Castle, launched her company in 2021. At the time, having spent seven years as Head of Television at Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman’s Mandeville Films, she had a deal with ABC Signature.
She recently struck a deal with the U.S. arm of the British broadcaster and production group, and this marks her first major development project under that new agreement.
Rosewood Television and ITV Studios America will adapt three novels by Lim, a Canadian author of Filipino-Chinese heritage, as series. Books include Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune, which was published in 2019; Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop, which came out in 2020; and Sophie Go’s Lonely Hearts Club, which was published last year.

A TV adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” is in development at A+E Studios and ITV Studios America, the studios announced Tuesday.
“Elizabeth” screenwriter Michael Hirst is set to adapt the iconic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel for the potential series, which does not yet have a network or platform attached to it.
The project is described as a “single season dramatic event series” that is a “re-imagining” of Fitzgerald’s book: “The Great Gatsby” dramatizes for the first time the full expanse of what made the book an American classic by creating a rich history and exploration of the backstories of its larger than life characters, from Nick Carroway’s life in the Midwest and Jay Gatsby’s humble beginnings to Daisy Buchanan’s spoiled early life. “The Great Gatsby” digs deeply into the hidden lives of these characters through the modern lens of a fractured American dream while capturing the...

Is it horror? Is it sci-fi? Is it horror/sci-fi? Those are the questions we've been asking about Endgame Entertainment's upcoming flick Umbra, and now that the project has a new writer And a new director on board, we should be able to find out the answers sooner rather than later.
Per Deadline, Martin Campbell (Green Lantern, Edge of Darkness) has been set to helm Umbra, which previous director Joe Carnahan (whose The Grey is opening later this month) has amicably dropped out of for personal reasons. Paul Haggis (pictured; Million Dollar Baby, Crash), who did rewrite work on the Campbell-directed Casino Royale, has also been brought on to rework the script. Shooting will begin in the spring.

Green Lantern's Martin Campbell has found his next directing gig. Deadline reports that Campbell has taken over for Joe Carnahan on Umbra, which is being funded by Endgame Entertainment. Paul Haggis, who worked with Campbell on Casino Royale, has been brought on to do a rewrite on the drama about "a business man who gets a mysterious package in the mail and gets caught up in a government conspiracy." Filming is scheduled to start in the spring.
Umbra is being produced by Endgame’s James Stern along with Hal Lieberman and Campbell’s production partner Lucienne Papon. Steven Karczynski and Carnahan did re-write work on the most recent draft. Carnahan parted ways with the project for personal reasons. He has been busy with The Grey, which stars Liam Neeson and opens on January 27.

Director Martin Campbell and scribe Paul Haggis have been brought onboard the thriller "Umbra" at Endgame Entertainment says Deadline.
The story follows a business man who gets a mysterious package in the mail and gets caught up in a government conspiracy. Joe Carnahan was previously attached to direct but has since dropped out.
The pair will work in the same capacities as they did on the Bond reboot "Casino Royale" - Campbell will direct while Haggis is performing a re-write of the previous script draft by Steven Karczynski.

The Green Lantern shined his light in downtown St. Louis last night. The location was a secret but a couple of hundred fans, collectively known as ‘The Green Lantern Corps’ figured out that it was at Poelker Park in Downtown St. Louis. The light projection started at 9pm and the Green Lantern symbol was projected onto the Civil Courts Building for several hours. The first 75 fans that showed up received Green Lantern T-Shirts, Glowing Rings, and passes for the sneak screening of the movie this Wednesday evening. It was a fun time and of course We Are Movie Geeks was there to cover the festivities.

Bringing the enduringly popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, have a look at the 3rd trailer for Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell.
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before.

[1] In early August 2010, I had the opportunity to travel to New Orleans to visit the set of the big screen adaptation of Green Lantern. After returning from the set, I recorded a video blog with Frosty from Collider [2] -- an in depth discussion about what we saw during the visit and our early impressions. Keep in mind, we didn't see any completed computer effects rendered footage. My big takeaway from the visit is that Warner Bros isn't just making a superhero movie, but that they are making a big space opera. The scope is huge and very ambitious and I'm excited to see if they can pull it off, and if mainstream America are willing to accept the abundance of hard sci-fi elements. I can tell you, I'm excited (despite some of the early unfinished special effects shots). Watch our set visit video blog embedded after the jump. And throughout...

I am still waiting to be blown away by Green Lantern. I guess it’s still far off from getting a perfect adaptation. Still, the thought of Ryan Reynolds in the lead role and Martin Campbell directing, you would expect something to blow you away and make you say, ‘this is the movie we have been waiting for.’ The first two minute and twenty seven second trailer seems to just underwhelm and I can’t put my finger on why that is. Still, it has a cool Iron Man/Star Trek vibe too it and all the blockbuster elements for a fun film, but I guess I am expecting something epic. Maybe I should lower these expectations. That being said, Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for the film along with a new piece of promo art.

More Green Lantern news DC fans! The first film to immortalise Hal Jordan hasn’t even hit our screens yet, but of course in the manic, mass produced world of Hollywood this seems to make little difference, as news has hit that writing for Green Lantern 2 is already underway!
We’ve known for a couple of months now that a treatment for the sequel has been floating round Hollywood, but now Michael Goldenberg has been hired to get the script ready for, I’d hazard a guess, a late 2011 shoot. This isn’t the first time that Goldenberg has been involved in the Lantern project, having been brought in to work on the script during production of the first installment – set to hit cinema screens in June next year.
It’s also not the first big Hollywood production he has worked on, Goldenberg was the hired to pen Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix...

Hey gang! Some more details from Warner Bros. upcoming comic book adaptation of Green Lantern have been revealed! There may be a few things that are considered spoilers so watch out.
The image that we saw of Green Lantern on the cover of EW is still a work in progress. From the neck down is basically what we see in the film. The CGI is still not finished in the image. The mask was obviously photoshopped in. The real mask will be a physical mask and not look like it's been painted on his face. 25 alien Green Lanterns, each with a different energy signature, were designed for major and minor roles in the movie. The film will mostly be based mainly Secret Origins. A key-scene in the film will feature all the 3,600 Green Lanterns! Parallax's origin is different from the comics. Fans of Sinestro will be happy to know that the mustache is untouched.

Hey Gang! Entertainment Weekly has unleashed the cover to there upcoming magazine which gives us our first look at Ryan Reynolds as The Green Lantern in his full Gc costume! Warner Bros is broadening its big-screen superhero spectrum beyond Batman and Superman with the addition of the less well-known Green Lantern, in the hope of repeating the success of Marvel's similarly second-tier Iron Man.
