Songs of the Blue Hills screens in documentary competition
The 8th edition of Signs Film Festival, to be held from May 28-June 1 in Kochi (Kerala) has unveiled lineup.
Organized by the Kerala Sub Region of the Federation of Film Societies of India, the festival features a national level competition for documentaries and short fiction. It has 4 award categories: Best Documentary, Prize: Rs 50,000; Best Short Feature(duration less than 70 minutes), Prize: Rs 50,000; Cinema of Resistance (Award for the best short feature/documentary on subjects like state oppression, human rights, environmental issues, gender equality, social/cultural identity etc), Prize: Rs 25,000; Cinema Experimenta (Award for the best experimental attempt), Prize: Rs 25,000.
The 2014 Jury will be headed by filmmaker Madhushree Dutta and will consist of artist and sculptor Riyas Komu; and filmmaker and academician K.B. Venu.

Bobby Sarma Baruah’s Assamese-language film Adomya was adjudged the best film in the ‘Spiritual films’ section at the 13th Dhaka International Film Festival (Diff) which concluded recently. Diff, the biggest film festival in Bangladesh, screened 18 Indian films under the various categories of the festival.
Oass (The Dew Drop) by Abhinav Shiv Tiwari and Rupkatha Noy (Not a Fairy Tale) competed under the ‘Australasian Film Competition’ section.
Vivek Budakoti’s Pied Piper, Judomoni Dutta’s Paani, Arup Manna’s Adhyay and Arindam Sil’s Aborto were screened under the ‘Cinema of the World’ section.
‘Spiritual films’ section saw a large number of Indian films being screened including Baruah’s Adomya, Tutu Sinha’s The Light: Swami Vivekananda and Samrat Chakrobarty’s Songs in Oblivion.
The ‘Shorts and Independent’ section saw Sourav Sarkar’s Nagal (The Copy), Dr. Debjani Halder’s The Dark, Ian McDonald’s Algorithms, Debanik Kundu’s Nrityer...

Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che will open the 13th edition of the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival. Besides, the festival will host a tribute to actress Shabana Azmi and screen some of the films that she has acted in – Fire by Deepa Mehta, Ankur by Shyam Benegal and City of Joy by Roland Joffe.
