With more than 536 confirmed cases of the coronavirus currently in Los Angeles County, the Lapd has seen a big jump in infections in recent days.
Reporting a trio of cases as recently as March 21, the department just now revealed that now nine members of its staff have tested positive for Covid-19. With two of the cases coming from the upper ranks of the Chief Michael Moore-run department, the occurrences breakdown to eight sworn members of the force and one civilian.
“All of these individuals are now quarantined at home and recovering,” said a Lapd spokesperson in a statement on Monday evening. “The Department has strict protocols for any employee who experiences symptoms of the virus,...

Warner Bros. Entertainment has restricted access for print and broadcast journalists from the red carpet at the upcoming U.S. premiere of “Joker.”
The event, which will take place on Saturday in Hollywood at the famous Tcl Chinese Theatre, will now only allow photographers access to talent and filmmakers. Expected attendees include Joaquin Phoenix, director Todd Philips, and supporting stars like Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy.
“Our red carpet is comprised of photographers only,” a studio spokesperson told Variety, “a lot has been said about ‘Joker,’ and we just feel it’s time for people to see the film.”
The move to restrict access to interviews comes after a week of headlines about the violent and provocative nature of the film, and measures to inform and protect American moviegoers as they prepare to screen it.
Mid-size theater chain Landmark is prohibiting costume play based on Phoenix’s turn as the iconic Batman villain.

The Los Angeles Police Department (Lapd) has decided to increase its visibility at cinema halls when the much-anticipated film "Joker" releases next week.
The decision comes amid heightened law enforcement concern about the violent film, with people wondering if it will incite violence in the society.
The department said it has not received any specific threats about the movie, but encouraged moviegoers to be vigilant, reports variety.com.
"The Los Angeles Police Department is aware of public concerns and the historical significance associated with the premiere of 'Joker'. While there are no credible threats in the Los Angeles area, the department will maintain high visibility around theaters when it opens," said department spokesman Josh Rubenstein.
In 2012, a shooter killed 12 people and injured 70 others at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colorado.

A crowd at a last-minute memorial for late rapper XXXTentacion turned rowdy in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to arrive on the scene in tactical gear to order hundreds of fans to disperse, a spokesperson for the Lapd tells TheWrap.
“The crowd began throwing chunks of concrete and bottles at our officers, one was struck in the leg,” Josh Rubenstein, public information director for the Lapd, said. “Non-lethal rounds were fired at those individuals to stop the action. The crowd eventually dispersed and nobody was transported to the hospital as a result of the crowd control and there were no arrests.”
