For the first time since at least 1999, a brand new daytime soap opera is closer to making its way to broadcast television. CBS Studios and NAACP Venture announced today they are developing a new daytime drama series for the CBS Television Network titled “The Gates,” with veteran writer Michele Val Jean set as writer and showrunner.
Val Jean, who exited “The Bold and the Beautiful” last month as a scriptwriter after writing more than 2,000 episodes of daytime dramas and winning multiple Daytime Emmy and WGA Awards, will also serve as an executive producer for “The Gates” alongside Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner.
The potential series will follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community. It will be produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP production venture in partnership with P&g Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. P&g, in particular, might...

[This story contains major spoilers from season five, parts one and two, of Virgin River.]
Following a dramatic and intense season five of Netflix’s Virgin River, Alexandra Breckenridge was more than excited to take on the light-hearted holiday episodes that close out the two-part season.
This 12-episode season — which released its first 10 episodes on Sept. 7 — saw new relationships forming for several characters, Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth) and Brie’s (Zibby Allen) shocking breakup, a wildfire that threatened the entire town, Brie’s difficult court trial for her sexual assault case and Jack (Martin Henderson) finding out his business is at the center of an illegal drug business.
But Breckenridge’s character Mel faced her own battles, including the emotional toll of suffering a miscarriage, which she says was “really difficult” and “very draining” to film.
Then, to add to the drama, Mel finds out in the part one finale that her biological father lives in Virgin River, of all places. Breckenridge recalled talking...

It’s been 12 years since “Greek” wrapped its run on ABC Family — which of course, is now Freeform — but the cast is still hoping to see a revival of the show someday. And yes, that includes Jake McDorman.
While on the red carpet for his new Peacock series “Mrs. Davis,” McDorman was quick to jump on board when TheWrap floated the idea of a revival series, enthusiastically noting that he and his former co-stars all still talk regularly.
“Yeah! I’m still friends with all those guys, we talk all the time,” McDorman said. “The guys, we all kind of live close — in fact, I think, I talked to Clark Duke earlier, I think he’s gonna be here — but me, Scott, Pj, Jacob Zachar, Clark, we’re all still super close, so I know we’d be down.”

As a long-running soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful has been known for its dramatic plot twists and turns. That includes having some characters go Mia and then returning to the show months or even years later.

It’s been more than three years since Freeform scrapped its plans for Greek: The Reunion, and star Jake McDorman (aka Evan Chambers) is still in the dark about why the network opted not to pledge the two-hour holiday movie, which would have found the gang returning to Cypress-Rhodes University for their five-year reunion.
The project was first announced in April 2016, but just over a year later in June 2017, Freeform quietly abandoned the mini-revival with no explanation. At the time, series creator Sean Smith told TVLine, “I delivered a script to Freeform in February that they seemed to love enough to want to move forward.

Paramount just slotted Michael Bay’s anticipated Benghazi siege pic 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi for early next year, on January 15, setting up a box office showdown with New Line’s comedy sequel Ride Along 2, Open Road’s kiddie follow-up The Nut Job 2 and Sony’s Ya franchise hopeful The 5th Wave.
Bay, in a change of pace from the Transformers franchise, directed the action-heavy drama, which unfolds at a U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, after an American ambassador is killed during a brutal attack. The cast includes John Krasinski, Pablo Schreiber, Max Martini, David Denman and James Badge Dale.
13 Hours is based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s book 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi, about the September 11, 2012 attacks that left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith and two CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Is Michael Bay finally as tired of the Transformers as the rest of us? It appears that may be the case, with news that the blockbuster-skewing director is majorly switching gears and pushing to direct political thriller 13 Hours, about the 2012 attacks on an American compound in Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
Chuck Hogan, the bestselling author whose Prince of Thieves was adapted into The Town, wrote the script for 13 Hours, working from the book of the same name by Lost in Shangri-La author Mitchell Zuckoff. Erwin Stoff is producing for Paramount, which is ball-parking the budget at between $30 and $40 million.

Ryan Murphy's NBC comedy about a gay couple and the woman who becomes their surrogate has cast The Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells in the lead role. The series hasn't been formally picked up to pilot, but is pretty certain to be.
It's common knowledge that Mitt Romney is a Mormon, and that he's been consistent about his tithes. But disclosure documents show that he also routed huge chunks of Bain Capital deals to the Mormon Church (to be fair, Bain seemed to route chunks of deals to a variety of charities). But did that money help fund Prop 8?
But things may be nastier for Newt Gingrich, whose ex Marianne has always said she could end his political career with one interview, and she's given an interview to ABC News, who will reportedly air it Thursday on Nightline. And then there's that nagging rumor showing up in mainstream papers...
