Brian Oelberg is a media production professional living in the wilds of Augusta, Maine. Born in California and raised in western Montana at the foot of the Rockies, he is passionate about the outdoors and loves capturing the landscapes and culture of the world around. Fluent in Spanish after traveling and studying in Mexico and El Salvador, and traveling through Chiapas and Guatemala, Nicaragua, he helped establish the premiere Spanish language school in El Salvador in 1999.
After completing his bachelor's degree in Communication at the University of California San Diego, and Spanish studies at the Universidad de Guadalajara and the Universidad de Occidente in Santa Ana, El Salvador, he went on to complete three years of graduate social science coursework towards the PhD in Communication at UMass Amherst, as well as extensive undergraduate teaching experience at UMass and at Worcester State University.
Beginning in 2006, he shot documentary projects about election cycles in several countries: Ecuador in 2006 when Rafael Correa was elected, the elections in the Dominican Republic in 2008 and the 2010 Colombia elections. Each featured a series of interviews with citizenry and political actors, union leaders and activists.
With extensive media production training at UC San Diego, Oelberg has gone on to develop a broad set of media skills, from social media and photography to film and video production. He taught video production to undergraduates for several years and has worked professionally on feature films and trailers, as camera assistant, grip, best boy and gaffer.
He continues to produce media in Maine and has collaborated with many local video producers including Sweet Thunder Video and the Maine Student Film Festival. He is available for photography and video production work on a freelance basis.
