Directors Notes is back at Aesthetica Short Film Festival in several capacities this year. Firstly, we’re here, in this article, to spotlight a selection of short films from the lineup we deem to be especially worth your time and secondly, we also have a presence in the festival with Dn presenting the Dark Hearts, Unhinged Minds programme at this year’s Aesthetica – showcasing a selection of Dn alum shorts which all relate to each other through their shared sensibility of a darkened, unsettling spirit. Vertice Films is supporting Psychophony at the American Film Market with a November 2nd showing in Santa Monica. This is a film that blends the psychological with the paranormal in new and unusual ways. The latest medical treatment promises to cure paranoid schizophrenia, but the cure is worse than the disease. Soon "a Pandora's Box of horror" is opened up and viewers will experience true terror as they gaze into a paranormal abyss. Spanish television vet Xavier Berraondo ventures into the realm of the supernatural with Children's Corner and we've got the first photos. In the film, a psychiatrist and a parapsychologist conduct an experiment to demonstrate that hallucinations of mental patients misdiagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic have their true origin in paranormal phenomena. The research leads to open a Pandora's Box of horror, terrifying the participating patients. Ferran Albiol, Dafnis Balduz and Ferran Carvajal star.
