“Speed Racer” is revving its engines once again.
Apple TV+ has ordered a new live-action “Speed Racer” series from executive producer J.J. Abrams and his company, Bad Robot. The new series will written and showrun by Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez, who also serve as executive producers. It will be produced by Warner Bros. Television.
This new show will be based on the “Speed Racer” property, which began as a comic book (or manga) series that ran from 1966 to 1968, as well as an influential anime that ran from 1967–68. Since then, there have been countless spinoffs, remakes and continuations, from a new animated series in the 1990s to the starry live-action Wachowskis film in 2008.

A “Speed Racer” live-action series is in the works at Apple with J.J. Abrams onboard as an executive producer, Variety has learned.
Apple has given the project, which has been in the works for a considerable amount of time, a series order. Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez are attached to write and executive produce in addition to serving as co-showrunners. Abrams will executive produce under his Bad Robot banner. Warner Bros. Television is the studio, where Bad Robot is under an overall deal.
“Speed Racer” follows the adventure of auto racer Speed Racer and his souped up car, the Mach 5. His team consists of his father and car builder Pops Racer, his little brother Spritle and his pet chimpanzee Chim-Chim, and Speed’s girlfriend Trixie. Speed also frequently crosses paths with the mysterious Racer X, who is secretly Speed’s older brother Rex Racer.

Apple TV+ is prepping Speed Racer, a high-profile live-action series from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television where the company is under a deal.
Details are sketchy but I hear the project, written by Hiram Martinez (Snowpiercer) and Ron Fitzgerald (Westworld), is going back to the original source material and is a live-action take on the classic 1960s manga series.
2022 Apple TV+ Pilots & Series Orders
I hear the series is now staffing a writers room, with Martinez and Fitzgerald as executive producers/co-showrunners.
Speed Racer, a Japanese media franchise about automobile racing, first launched as a manga series titled Mach GoGoGo by Tatsuo Yoshida in 1966. Trans-Lux acquired syndication rights and Speed Racer was adapted into anime by Tatsunoko Productions, which aired on Japan’s Fuji TV from 1967-68 and aired in the U.S. in syndication at about the same time.
The show’s mainstream success in the U.

Snowpiercer Episode 8
The only thing keeping Snowpiercer in any sort of working order, aside from hard work and Third Class laborers, is belief. The belief that Mr. Wilford is up in the front of the train, guiding the eternal engine, making sure everyone has enough food, and space, and frolic to keep them all from going mad. Mr. Wilford, the benevolent genius behind the life-saving train, and the man single-handedly keeping the human race from extinction. For people like Ruth (Alison Wright), Wilford is next to God in their eyes. For people like the Folgers, Wilford is the only person on the train with more money than them, and clout enough to get them thrown out of the train or worse should he wish it. Thus, he’s a useful fiction to have, until he’s no longer available. Now there are no higher powers...

Snowpiercer Episode 4
Is anyone really surprised that there are two different sets of rules in the world of Snowpiercer? The rich, as we’ve seen, get to live out their days in luxury, enjoying Jinju’s delicious food and not worrying all that much about disruptions in Third Class and another revolt in the tail. That’s just easily dismissed train talk, the “train talk” being the gossip network that thrives in any ecosystem. All of the violence and rough business happens far down the train; the only thing the true elites like Lilah Folger (Kerry O’Malley) and company have to worry about is a besmirched reputation. And if they do have any issues, well… they have their armed security guards around to take care of that sort of thing.
That reveal is a shock to Layton (Daveed Diggs), who as a former cop would...

Exclusive: Todd Hoffman, who at ICM Partners built a strong business repping writers as well as intellectual property storehouses like The New York Times, 60 Minutes and New York magazine, has launched the management/production company Storied Media Group. Hoffman, who left ICM over the summer after a long run there, brings with him a stable of writer clients that include Emmy-winning Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, Nebraska co-writer Bob Nelson, Moneyball‘s Stan Chervin, playwright-writer-director Stephen Belber (Management), Girl In Progress scribe Hiram Martinez and Ad Jeffrey Lynch. He also brings with him the above-mentioned publications as well as 60 Minutes Sports, Public Radio International, The McClatchy Company and Say Media. The idea behind the latter is to make outlets like Nyt, 60 Minutes and New York magazine’s partners in option deals that are made for content originated by the publications. I’ve always found Hoffman to be one of the smarter guys in this niche.

Clips from Girl in Progress, starring Eva Mendes, Cierra Ramirez, Raini Rodriguez and Patricia Arquette. We have 5 clips in from Pantelion Films' comedy directed by Patricia Riggen from the writing by Hiram Martinez, which finds theatres on May 11th. Girl in Progress, Grace (Eva Mendes) is a single mom. She is too busy juggling work, bills, and the very married Dr. Hartford (Matthew Modine), to give her daughter, Ansiedad (Cierra Ramirez) the attention she desperately needs. When Ansiedad's English teacher, Ms. Armstrong (Patricia Arquette), introduces her students to classic coming-of-age stories, Ansiedad is inspired to skip adolescence and jump-start her life without mom. While Grace becomes preoccupied with the increasing affections of her co-worker (Eugenio Derbez), Ansiedad enlists the help of her loyal friend, Tavita (Raini Rodriguez), to plot her shortcut to "adulthood". But as her misguided plan unravels, Ansiedad and Grace must learn that sometimes growing-up means acting your age.

Eva Mendes has a bad habit of choosing some really lousy projects, but she definitely has both talent and range. She's managed to take on both dramatic and comedic roles and play them well, be it in Adam McKay's The Other Guys or Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (which admittedly has some comedic elements, but is largely a drama). Now she's about to come out with a new film, Girl in Progress, that will stretch both muscles and today we have the first trailer. Check out the preview below and in HD over on Yahoo! Directed by Patricia Riggen, Girl in Progress also stars Matthew Modine, Cierra Ramirez, Patricia Arquette and Eugenio Derbez. The story, written by Hiram Martinez, is about a girl neglected by her mother. After learning about coming-of-age stories in school, she begins to look for ways that she can become...
