We don't have to wonder if Barry will be cancelled or renewed for a fifth season since it's already been announced that the HBO series ends with the current fourth season. However, reboots and spin-offs are very popular these days. Could some characters return someday in a fifth season of Barry or perhaps their own show? Stay tuned.
A dark comedy crime series, the Barry TV show stars Bill Hader, Stephen Root; Sarah Goldberg; Anthony Carrigan; Henry Winkler; and Robert Wisdom, with Michael Irby, Fred Melamed, Andrew Leeds, Patrick Fischler, and Jessy Hodges in recurring roles. The story begins as former Marine Barry Berkman (Hader), a Cleveland hitman travels to Los Angeles to kill someone. He joins an acting class taught by self-obsessed Gene Cousineau (Winkler). There, Barry meets aspiring actress Sally Reed (Goldberg) and falls in love with the craft and wants to change...

Bill Hader insists he never had any long range plans for “Barry’s” storylines.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the HBO series’ fourth and final season on Sunday, Hader told Variety when he first began the process of developing and pitching “Barry” seven years ago, he had “no idea where the series was going to end up.”
In fact, he says, Season 4 is “totally different” than his original plans. As the series wrapped, Hader revealed those final days were “very bittersweet,” but everyone was “also so tired, we were exhausted,” he said, laughing.
“Barry’s” fourth season picks up with Barry in prison after killing Janice (Paula Newsome), his mentor Gene Cousineau’s (Henry Winkler) girlfriend, in Season 1. “I had some sense of where we were headed,” said Sarah Goldberg, who plays Sally. “But I was very surprised by all the details on the way there.”

The following contains spoilers for "Barry."
Sally Reed (Sarah Goldberg) had a rough go of it in "Barry" season 3. She had a brief moment on the top of the world in the fourth episode, "all the sauces," when her semi-autobiographical streaming series "Joplin" (named after her Missouri hometown) premiered to rave reviews. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to save the series from cancelation by streaming service BanShe's almighty algorithm.
Over the season's second half, a distraught Sally blew up at her assistant Natalie (D'Arcy Carden), was dropped by her agent Lindsay (Jessy Hodges), and then murdered a home invader (Anthony Molinari) in self-defense. So, she decided to leave Los Angeles entirely and go back home.
When we catch up with Sally in the season 4 premiere, "yikes," she's asleep on the flight to Joplin. So, she missed the news of Barry's arrest. When she wakes up, she checks her phone and finds...

This post contains spoilers for the two-episode season 4 premiere of "Barry."
When "Barry" ended last season, it was with all the pitch-black drama of a series like "Breaking Bad" or "The Wire." The season finale featured a brutal, lengthy scene that saw Sally (Sarah Goldberg) beat a man to death after he tried to choke her, and a few scenes later, Barry (Bill Hader) was arrested in an LAPD sting orchestrated by the man he looks to as a hero. With Barry headed behind bars and his double life as an actor and assassin no longer hanging in the balance, one had to ask: how will this show ever be funny again?
The answer, it turns out, is by letting its comedy evolve alongside its subject matter. In its early seasons, "Barry" mined comedy from the desperation of Hollywood, cracking jokes about no-talent dreamers and washed-up B-listers. As Barry and...

Emphasis is on the dark as “Barry,” Bill Hader and Alec Berg’s dark comedy about a hapless hit man with Hollywood dreams, begins its fourth and final season. It takes a while for the comedy to catch up, but rest assured that the show’s trademark blend of absurd brutality and hilarious human frailty is re-established by the second episode, which premieres along with the season opener on HBO Sunday, April 16.
This makes sense since Hader’s Barry Berkman was arrested at the end of Season 3 and is entering prison at the start of this eight-chapter run. After some weak humor with a starstruck guard, the story zeroes in on Barry’s pain. It’s emotional at first as he realizes his beloved acting teacher, Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), conspired with the intimidating Jim Moss (Robert Wisdom) to set him up. Barry did, after all, murder the former’s girlfriend/latter’s daughter,...

The curtain is closing on Barry, HBO‘s dark comedy series about a hit man from the Midwest who moves to Los Angeles and falls in love with the stage. HBO released its Barry Season 4 trailer on Wednesday, featuring Bill Hader’s irredeemable character losing his grip and creating chaos, even behind bars. The Emmy-winning series returns with the first of eight episodes on April 16, 2023, on HBO, with new episodes every Sunday until the May 28 series finale.
Here’s the official logline for Barry Season 4:
Cousineau (Henry Winkler) is hailed as a hero as Barry’s (Bill Hader) arrest has shocking consequences. It’s all been leading up to this – Barry’s explosive and hilarious final chapter.

A new, full-length trailer for “Barry” Season 4 has arrived, offering a closer look at what to expect from the final eight episodes of the Emmy-winning half-hour series. Hader’s Barry is in jail following the Season 3 finale’s big sting operation, and we get glimpses of how those around Barry – Sally (Sarah Goldberg), Gene (Henry Winkler), Fuches (Stephen Root) and Hank (Anthony Carrigan) – are dealing with this new development.
“The guy I was dating in LA killed my acting teacher’s girlfriend,” Sally is heard saying in the trailer, followed by, “I think I might be in a lot of trouble.”
Barry is in jail, seen really laying it on himself as he deals with the consequences of his actions. Fuches is also in jail, and it appears as though he’s in the same prison as Barry.

Season three of HBO’s critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning Barry ended with Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) under arrest. The teaser trailer for season four confirms that while Barry is, in fact, behind bars, he remains at the heart of the story.
Dropping the teaser trailer, HBO announced an April 16, 2023 premiere date. The network also announced season four will be the show’s final season, which means only eight new episodes remain to wrap up Barry’s story.
Season four’s first two episodes arrive on April 16th, with new episodes premiering on Sundays at 10pm Et/Pt. The series finale will air on May 28th.
“It’s been an amazing journey making this show, and it’s bittersweet that the story has come to its natural conclusion,” said three-time Emmy Award-winner Bill Hader.

“Barry” is the latest critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning series to say those four little words: “Fourth and final season.” HBO’s dark comedy will end after its upcoming season, co-creator Bill Hader announced Tuesday in an interview with Variety. The news was accompanied by a premiere date – which comes surprisingly soon – and a teaser trailer.
The trailer picks up where Season 3 left off, with aspiring actor/professional hitman Barry Berkman (Hader) in prison after being lured into a trap by his acting teacher and mentor Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler). In the teaser, Barry makes phone calls and sees visions of the people important to him. In one call, he breaks down as he tells someone he loves them. In what could be the same call or a different one, Gene says to him, “Hey Barry, I got you.” And in the last one at the end of the teaser, he growls “So help me God,...

Although he won Emmys in 2018 and 2019 for his work on “Barry,” Bill Hader was unfortunately kept from repeating his success at the SAG Awards by Tony Shalhoub and his “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” cast mates. Following a pandemic-induced three-year hiatus, Hader has now received his third pair of comedy actor and ensemble SAG Award nominations for the HBO series. Since Shalhoub was doubly overlooked this time and reigning back-to-back comedy actor champ Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) is out of contention, Hader’s path to individual victory is clearer than ever.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Starting Now,” the Season 3 finale of “Barry.”
Season 3 of “Barry” was the dark comedy’s darkest yet, which was achieved in no small part thanks to cinematographer Carl Herse.
“One of our big references is the Coen brothers’ balance between tragedy and comedy and how they find that line, allowing something to be meaningful but also comical and absurd at the same time,” Herse says about working with Bill Hader, who co-created the show, stars in the title role and directs many episodes, most recently including Season 3 finale “Starting Now.”
“Bill is very specific as a director. A lot of times on TV shows, you have showrunners who have a writing background but are not necessarily as visual, episodic directors who are trying to get many coverage options for the showrunners to decide what direction they want to go with,...

The last time HBO’s “Barry” aired on TV, the final season of “Game of Thrones” was unfolding, Donald Trump was president of the U.S. and nobody on Earth had ever heard of “Covid-19.” It was a much simpler time!
It’s been nearly three years since Emmy winner Bill Hader last played Barry Berkman, everyone’s favorite part-time assassin and aspiring actor. Barry has successfully avoided arrest following several murders, while also growing as a thespian and dating fellow actor Sally (Sarah Goldberg), but Season 3 puts him in his most precarious position yet. Barry’s former handler, Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root), has fully turned against him. In the Season 2 finale, it’s revealed that Fuches told Barry’s acting coach, Gene M. Cousineau (Henry Winkler), that Barry killed Cousineau’s girlfriend, police officer Janice Moss (Paula Newsome), in the Season 1 finale.

Jessy Hodges and Beck Bennett are new parents! Jessy took to Instagram on March 11 to share the news, posting a carousel of moments before and after giving birth. The first snap in the Instagram series featured a black and white photo of Jessy sitting in a doctor's office with an ultrasound machine in the corner. The second photo may just be the most relatable mom-moment of all. Jessy is seen holding her newborn baby in the hospital bed, while also eating a sandwich. The last picture captured Beck pushing Jessy and their bundle of joy in a wheelchair in the hospital. Jessy captioned the post, "I used to be pregnant, but then I had a baby." While the couple did not share photos from...

Hollywood television has been known for its numerous sitcoms over the decades. In India, the genre has been tried and though in the 80s and the 90s there were a few that left a mark, of late there haven’t been many success stories. In these times when an offering from the West, Indebted, arrives on an Ott platform [Sony Liv], I was curious to check out how it would turn out to be.
Thankfully, Dan Levy puts together a 12 episode and 20 minutes each sitcom that makes for a breezy and fun watch. A family affair, it is clean and entertaining with the kind of dialogues and visuals that do not make you look the other way with even kids around. Instead, there is a lot in there that actually makes you play it around with family members across age groups due to the funny appeal that it carries right through with dialogues,...

“Indebted,” NBC’s new sitcom, has the virtue of a top-of-the-line cast. Now if only it could figure out what to do with them.
Fran Drescher makes a return to network comedy as half of a couple (along with Steven Weber) who’ve blown through their savings on luxuries with no clear plan on how to spend rest of their lives; they move in with their son (Adam Pally) and daughter-in-law (Abby Elliott). Together, these two couples contain four comic ringers — and yet the plots they’re forced through feel so sparklessly rudimentary that the actors (especially Pally) can’t quite be blamed for sleepwalking through them.
The show feints towards treating its characters as antiheroes but won’t in its first few episodes meaningfully commit — ultimately, they’re good, if confused, folks who care for each other. The precise midpoint between juicily nasty and wholesome is a tricky balance to strike,...

In a conversation with reporters following today’s TCA panel on NBC’s new comedy Indebted, series star Fran Drescher did not specifically confirm or deny that she is at work on a TV revival of The Nanny but said she “contractually” cannot proceed on any plan to revive her 1990s sitcom until after character goes to Broadway.
“[The Broadway musical] is the next big Nanny thing, so I have to honor that commitment,” Drescher said. She added that she wants to write another book after the Broadway chapter is over.
As previously announced, the 1990s sitcom is being developed into a Broadway musical, with series creators Drescher and her ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson set to write the show’s book, while Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Rachel Bloom and Adam Schlesinger writing the music.
For now, Drescher fans will have to be content with seeing her in Indebted, from writer Dan Levy, Sony TV and Doug Robinson Productions.

NBC has wrapped up its new series orders, picking up single-camera choir comedy Perfect Harmony, starring and executive produced by Bradley Whitford, from 20th Century Fox TV; multi-camera multi-generational family comedy Indebted (fka Uninsured), co-starring Fran Drescher, from Sony TV; and drama Lincoln, headlined by Russell Hornsby, also from Sony TV. Lincoln, based on the Bone Collector novel, will be a co-production with Universal TV.
The late pickup for Perfect Harmony, Indebted and Lincoln does not necessarily reflect their standings in the NBC pilots pecking order as all had enjoyed internal support. The multi-camera comedy revolves around young parents Dave and Rebecca, who “end up having to take care of Dave’s parents who have mishandled their finances and need help to pay down a sizable debt.”
Sony Pictures Television will produce. Dan Levy is writing and producing; Doug Robinson and Alison Greenspan are serving as executive producers under the Doug Robinson Productions banner.
