Decades before UCLA’s school of Theater, Film and Television formally became one of the world’s top-ranking drama departments, the Southern California university’s arts program was synonymous with nurturing artists whose iconic work irrevocably transformed entertainment, and media itself, for the better.
Marking the first time a major university combined the three disciplines under one administration, UCLA Tft was established in 1990, simultaneously building on the history of the school’s storied curriculum, bolstering industry connections to reflect its impact and influence, and developing a network of facilities, instructors and experts to help prepare and accommodate students for a constantly changing entertainment landscape.
Even before 14-time Academy Awards telecast producer Gil Cates became its founding dean, UCLA’s fine arts departments were already part of a considerable legacy, with a list of famous alumni that included James Dean, Steve Martin, Paul Schrader, Francis Ford Coppola, Carroll Ballard, Rob Reiner,...

Listen to the synopsis below from Deadline, and let’s chat about it afterward:
In Once Upon a One More Time, Cinderella, Snow White and the other fairy tale princesses gather for their book club when a rogue fairy godmother drops The Feminine Mystique into their corseted laps, spurring a royal revelation. It's a Britney Spears musical, b*tch!
Before you grab your Catholic schoolgirl uniform or red patent leather jumpsuits, this won't be a musical based on the singer's life. Similar to Broadway classic Mamma Mia!, the musical comedy will incorporate 23 songs from the 37-year-old's iconic musical catalog to fit the story. Titled Once Upon a One More Time, the musical follows several fairy-tale princesses, including Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty, who are working through a collection of the Grimms' fairy tales with their fortnightly book club.
A rogue fairy godmother hears their wish for new reading material and brings them the feminist classic The Feminine Mystique, which spurs a "royal revelation." I just had a vision of Snow White cracking a whip at the Seven Dwarves while singing "Work B*tch," and I'm not sure how I feel about it.
The show will kick off performances in Chicago at the James M.

Exclusive: A Clueless feature remake is in the works at Paramount with Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver producing and Glow writer Marquita Robinson penning the script.
The movie is quite early in development, so details are minimal in regards to whether it’s a fresh new take for the millennium and if older characters will be reprising their roles.
The original 1995 film directed and written by Amy Heckerling is a cult Gen X classic, loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, and provided a satirical window into the Beverly Hills high school scene of the day. The movie put a number of young actors and actresses on the map who flourished in the wake of the pic’s release including Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Breckin Meyer, Jeremy Sisto, Stacey Dash, and the late Brittany Murphy. As BroadwayWorld reported earlier, The New Group has just announced complete casting and the design team for Clueless, the Musical. Amy Heckerling takes us back to 90s Beverly Hills with this musical version of her beloved film Clueless, a modern spin on Jane Austen's Emma. With her singular voice, she gives us a score that reimagines 90s hits into ingenious parodies and yearning monologues for her lovesick characters. Director Kristin Hanggi Rock of Ages and choreographer Kelly Devine Come from Away drive this fresh take on the story of Cher Dove Cameron - 'Liv and Maddie,' Descendants, Hairspray Live, a girl so psychotically optimistic she can't see that her bungling attempts at playing Cupid disguise her own fashion-plated isolation.

Did you think Dove Cameron would pass up the role of Cher in Clueless? As if!
The Disney Channel actress, 22, will play Cher in an off-Broadway production of Clueless: The Musical, according to Deadline.
A rep for Cameron did not immediately respond to People’s request for comment.
Alicia Silverstone, 42, shot to fame after starring in the role in 1995. She recently reprised her role in June for Lip Sync Battle in which she donned a yellow plaid pleated skirt and matching jacket (Cher’s signature look). She sang and danced her way through Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” for the performance.

Green witches, flying carpets, and singing cats are heading from the stage to the screen, as Hollywood appears to have fallen back in love with movie adaptations of its favorite musicals.

The long-rumoured Clueless musical has been confirmed.
The original film's director Amy Hecklering told Entertainment Tonight that casting would be the main challenge for the production.
"I've written what they call the book, and it's a jukebox musical," Hecklering said.
"Well, casting - that's, like, going to be like the main problem."
Last July, Heckerling revealed that popstar Katy Perry had expressed an interest in playing the lead role of Cher.
Cher was played by Alicia Silverstone in the 1995 film, and was supported by Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, Dan Hedaya, Elisa Donovan, Justin Walker, Donald Faison and Breckin Meyer.
A TV spinoff ran for three seasons on ABC from 1996 to 1999.
Rock of Ages director Kristin Hanggi will direct the play and Dodger Theatricals (Jersey Boys) is producing.
Hecklering has not confirmed what songs will be in the Clueless musical.

Getting down to business on her new flick, Victoria Justice shot scenes for “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List” in New York City on Monday (October 14).
Joined by costar Pierson Fode, the “Victorious” starlet strolled around Washington Square Park in a black leather jacket, black jeans, and sunglasses.
Based on the book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List” is being directed by Kristin Hanggi, though no hard details have been released yet.
Per the synopsis, “Naomi and Ely are best friends. Naomi loves and is in love with Ely, and Ely loves Naomi, but prefers to be in love with boys. So they create their ‘No Kiss List’ of people neither of them is allowed to kiss. And this works fine - until Bruce. Bruce is Naomi's boyfriend, so there's no reason to put him on the List. But Ely kissed Bruce even though he is boring.

Sometimes, the best ideas come from unexpected beginnings, or at least that was the case for "Worst Audition Ever."Making its New York debut at Joe's Pub on Monday night, "Worst Audition Ever" gives performers a platform to share a candid, humorous take on their “worst” audition experiences. The brainchild of Christine Lakin (“Step By Step,” “Family Guy”), the concept for the show came from a rather routine evening."It started about a year and half ago sitting around in a cabin north of Los Angeles with a bunch of my actor friends, drinking beer, and telling war stories," she said.
