It’s impressive that despite the massive success of Jaws making its bite mark on pop culture back in 1975, many movies have unapologetically attempted to follow in its footsteps to this very day. One of those films is the 2017 movie 47 Meters Down, which spawned a sequel in 2019, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. A third movie in the series is now set to swim ashore as 47 Meters Down: The Wreck will be launching its sales campaign at the Cannes Market. Johannes Roberts and screenwriter Ernest Riera return to co-write this new installment, which will be directed by veteran horror director Patrick Lussier, whose credits include My Bloody Valentine.
The plot synopsis for the third entry, per Deadline, reads,
“The story will follow a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond during a scuba dive in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. But soon after their descent,...

Billy Porter is preparing to portray the author and civil rights activist James Baldwin in an upcoming biopic.
He will also co-write the untitled movie with Dan McCabe, which will be adapted from the 1994 book “James Baldwin: A Biography” by David Leeming. An emeritus professor of English at the University of Connecticut, Leeming was well-versed in the world of Baldwin as his friend of 25 years as well as his assistant.
Porter says it has been a career-long dream to tell the story of Baldwin on film. Born in Harlem in 1924, Baldwin was a Black gay writer whose influential works include “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” “Notes of a Native Son” and “If Beale Street Could Talk.” In addition to writing, Baldwin fought for racial justice in the U.S. civil rights movement. Pose star Billy Porter is set to play James Baldwin in a feature based on the life of the legendary novelist, essayist and activist for Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures.
Porter and Dan McCabe will pen the script for the theatrical feature based on David Leeming’s 1994 book James Baldwin: A Biography. Broadway-trained Porter is a longtime devotee of Baldwin, having quoted from the legendary author and civil rights campaigner during his 2019 Emmy-winning acceptance speech.
The deep dive into Baldwin’s life and struggles represents the culmination of a long-held creative ambition for the Emmy-, Tony- and Grammy Award-winning performer, who is one Oscar short of an Egot. “As a Black queer man on this planet with relative consciousness, I find myself, like James Baldwin said, ‘in a rage all the time.’ I am because James was. Director Johannes Roberts’ shark thriller 47 Meters Down was almost a straight-to-video release, but when it went theatrical instead it turned out to be a surprise hit, pulling in over 62 million at the global box office. So Roberts made a sequel, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, which earned almost 47 million worldwide. And now Deadline reports that Roberts is set to direct another shark thriller… but this one isn’t another 47 Meters Down sequel. The next shark movie we’ll be getting from Roberts is called The Red Triangle.
Described as a “big-budget theatrical feature” from Allen Media Group Motion Pictures, The Red Triangle will be set in Northern California — famous for its gorgeous beaches, but also known for a particular stretch of ocean that has a bloody reputation — The Red Triangle. Johannes Roberts is heading back into shark-infested waters with The Red Triangle, a brand new movie announced by Deadline today.
Deadline details, “[The] big-budget theatrical feature is set in Northern California — famous for its gorgeous beaches, but also known for a particular stretch of ocean that has a bloody reputation — The Red Triangle. Stretching south from Bodega Bay toward San Francisco and jutting out beyond the Farallon Islands and down to Big Sur south of Monterey, the Triangle encompasses around 200 miles of coastline, and is the site of almost half of all recorded great white shark attacks in the United States.”
In the film, “When a cruise ship — a massive, floating, fully stocked resort with thousands of passengers — begins to sink in The Red Triangle, the feeding frenzy begins.”
For Allen Media Group Motion Pictures, Johannes Roberts will direct from his own script, with Tea Shop Productions’ James Harris and Mark Lane producing.

The long-gestating third season of the “Scream” series is finally debuting–but not on its original network.
Variety has confirmed that the series will air on VH1 instead of MTV as originally planned. “Scream” will debut on VH1 on July 8 and air two one-hour episodes back-to-back for three straight nights.
The third season of the series based on the horror movie franchise of the same name was first announced in 2016. Since then, both VH1 and MTV have largely moved away from scripted programming.
This marks the latest instance of Viacom shuffling properties around its cable portfolio. Most recently it was announced that Tracy Oliver’s “First Wives Club” series would find its fourth home on the upcoming streaming service Bet+ after having previously been set up at TV Land, Paramount Network, and Bet.
Season 3 revolves around Deion Elliot (Rj Cyler), a local star running back whose tragic past comes back...

Updated: Viacom is making significant cuts at Awesomeness, disclosing plans to lay off nearly 100 employees — or around half of the digital-media company it acquired last month from NBCUniversal, Verizon and Hearst.
In addition, as Viacom previously announced would happen, former Awesomeness CEO Jordan Levin has left the company.
While sources previously indicated Awesomeness was laying off more than 30 staffers this week, the cutbacks are much deeper than that. According to a notice filed with California’s Employment Development Department, Awesomeness will terminate 50 employees on Oct. 15; 33 who will be let go shortly after Oct. 15; and 15 who will lose their employment on Dec. 31.
Santa Monica-based Awesomeness filed the notice Aug. 16 with the agency under the requirements of the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (Warn) Act, which requires at least 60-day advance notice of mass layoffs. Awesomeness’ filing of the Warn notice was previously reported by Deadline.

The news front on Spike TV's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist has been relatively quiet in recent months, but that's now changed thanks to a new interview Lilja's Library conducted with Christian Torpe, the creator, executive producer, and showrunner of The Mist TV series, who discussed adapting King's novella, his respect for Frank Darabont's 2007 film, King's reaction to the pilot episode, and more.
Speaking with Lilja's Library, Torpe expressed his desire to do something different with his take on King's seminal novella, including not retreading Darabont's adaptation, which he greatly admires:
"It is not the same story as in the book and the movie, nor is it the same characters – but fans of the story will still see clear parallels... Some things are exactly the same, some are totally different. Some things you think are the same as in the original, but turn out to be something else entirely.

Scream Season 3 is finally arriving... except as an event series on VH1, rather than former home MTV.
Scream Season 3 if actually going to make air!
Fans of the TV series adaptation for the meta-minded bellwether horror movie franchise have waited nearly three years since the second season on MTV capped off its summer 2016 run with an October-airing Halloween special that year. However, after a leadership shakeup at MTV, subsequent plans called for the show going the reboot route for Season 3; a rarity for non-anthology shows.
Unfortunately, upon completion, the third season of Scream languished in TV series purgatory, leaving the series as an unaired anachronism from an already-bygone era of Teen Wolf – and MTV’s overall experiment with scripted television – before the channel retreated to its reality show safety blanket by rebooting The Hills and whatnot. However, plans to finally broadcast Scream Season 3 are now confirmed. Repacked as Scream: Resurrection,...
