Ahead of FrightFest’s UK premiere of A Cloud So High at the Glasgow Film Festival, director Christopher Parson talks about his encounter with a peeping tom, casting a serial killer and writing demented female characters…
Congratulations on such an accomplished feature film debut. Is this the film you’ve always wanted to make?
Thanks for the compliment! I always saw ‘A Cloud So High’ as a Drive-In movie, to be honest. It’s more the film I never knew I always wanted to make!
The film takes us on a dark journey into the pathology of a young man (Paul) developing into a serial killer. What gave you the inspiration for the character?
There were three main incidents. One, many years ago, much like Paul Sarling, I was attacked and mugged by three assailants while walking home after a college class here in Los Angeles. Two, while purchasing batteries...

Director: Joseph Kahn. Writers: Joseph Kahn and Mark Palermo. Cast: Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, Spencer Locke, Parker Bagley, Brooke Haven, Walter Perez, Aaron Perilo, Will Wallace, Jesse Heiman, Lindsey Morgan, and Marque Richardson. Detention is only director Joseph Kahn's second film. But, already this filmmaker is showing brilliance in this comedy slash serial killer feature. Kahn's background includes the 2004 action film Torque and a series of music videos. He brings the quick cuts and visual style of music videos to this feature. He also brings many, many pop culture references to what is the funniest film this reviewer has seen so far this year. And kudos to Kahn for creating such a complex storyline that is literally chock full of subplots. The central storyline focuses on Riley (Shanley Caswell) and her crush on Clapton Davis (Josh Hutcherson). She has to compete with Ione (Spencer Locke) for his attentions. And,...

Chicago – Don’t be duped by Joseph Kahn’s insultingly unintelligent trailer for his new Adhd high school slasher/comedy “Detention”. Rather than prematurely blowing his load with the film’s crème de la crème in a two-minute trailer, he’s done the reverse. Kahn – who scraped much of this “indie” film’s $10 million budget from his own pockets – has set up disappointed trailer watchers to discover a hidden gem in his second feature-length film.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Kahn’s fast-paced, Aaron Sorkin-like “Detention” deserves cult-hit status. Just as “The Social Network” embodies our Facebook culture, this SXSW film-festival favorite rewrites today’s high school movie bible.
Despite what this film’s sophomoric trailer might lead you to believe, “Detention” is anything but tenderfoot and witless. And don’t be nauseated by the disenchanting storyline of a killer named Cinderhella stalking the high school student body while a gaggle of co-eds...

Aaron Perilo wants to tell you a lot about Blackburn, his True Blood character who debuted on "Me and the Devil" as one of Bill's sheriff. Really, he does.
"But I can't say too much without getting the truth death from Alan Ball," the actor told me in a TV Fanatic exclusive.
Fair enough. But what can Perilo share?
He'll appear on a total of four episodes and his vampire has been brought to Bon Temps on a "special assignment." It's safe to assume this involves digging up dirt on Marnie and her wiccan pals. But Perilo wouldn't elaborate. Fear of the true death and all.
Perilo was glad to talk about his experience shooting, however. He acted opposite Bill Moyer in his first scene and said the star couldn't have been nicer.
"He's kind of jokey and totally personable," Perilo said. "There were no egos on the set at all.

Aaron Perilo joins the cast of " True Blood " this season -- and now we know he definitely has the body to compete with the rest of the studs on set! The newcomer, who plays vampire Sheriff Blackburn , made his first, brief appearance on the show in Sunday night's episode -- and showed off his impressive physique over the weekend while surfing in Malibu. Click on the "Launch Gallery" button below for more photos. TooFab caught up with Perilo to talk about joining the show, how he got physically prepared for the role and even revealed his Hollywood crush(es). TooFab : Can you tell us anything about your character, Blackburn ? Aaron : Well, I can say that my character is a bit of a bad boy. He likes to get bloody at a drop of hat. I am quite old and I am familiar with some of the other vampires on the show.

Spoiler Alert! In honor of last night’s True Blood, which featured more than one rewindable Sookie and Eric moment (watch them below!), tell us which True Blood scene you’ve watched and rewatched the most over the past four seasons. No judgment. No shame. So feel free to answer Eric and Sookie’s Fangtasia kiss, Eric and Sookie’s dream kiss at Alcide’s, Eric and Sookie’s dream kiss in bed with Bill, or Eric and Sookie’s dream kiss after Godric died. Also acceptable, something not related to sex — such as Eric gets blood in his hair,...

On this week’s True Blood, we met the other four vampire sheriffs of Louisiana when King Bill summoned them to discuss their witch problem. One of the vampires, Blackburn (pictured), is played by Aaron Perilo, who celebrated his debut by watching the show with friends — a circle of dedicated True Blood fans. (They hushed the fool who “Ooh!”ed when he made his first appearance, he reports. There is no talking during True Blood.) Though Perilo is under the usual cast orders to stay spoiler-free, here’s what we gleaned from our chat this morning:

Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin headed south to San Diego yesterday for Comic-Con's True Blood panel. The cast had a strong showing with Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Kevin Alejandro, Nelsan Ellis, Kristin Bauer, Deborah Ann Woll, and creator Alan Ball joining in for the discussion. A few spoilers were revealed during the fan chat - Buzz has a full run down of the True Blood at Comic Con Q & A - like the mystery behind Alexander's "dorky outfits" this season and whether we'll see how Eric turned Pam into a vampire. Newcomer Aaron Perilo missed out on the vampire/werewolf conversation, however Aaron recently chatted with us about his character, Blackburn as well as another project at Comic-Con, In Time. Fans of the True Blood shirtless scenes are in store for a treat as it was also revealed Eric and Sookie will soon share a shower scene which,...

Because we all know that just watching the new episode’s of True Blood isn’t enough, there’s a new video from MTV News where a number of new cast members talk about their characters and what makes them tick.
First up is Aaron Perilo who plays the new vampire Blackburn. He describes him as a vamp that’s been around the block a couple times and knows some tricks. He’s got attitude and loves getting into all kinds of trouble. Next we take a look at some of the witches introduced this season, starting with the top dog Marnie, played by Fiona Shaw. She teases that Marnie is a bad witch who will become very powerful, but also describes her as being lonely and isolated. Maybe there’s more beneath the surface? Other witches in the wiccan group are Dean Chelcvala and Fiona Dourif who play Roy and Casey respectively.

Happy Fourth of July BoomTronners! It is time to celebrate life, liberty, and vampires! We are sure you heard about some True Blood actors popping on over to other shows. For instance, Lauren Bowles put in a visit to the Curb Your Enthusiasm set. Also, the goregous werewolf himself, Alcide actor, Joe Manganiello, will appear on White Collar. Different type of collar over there, eh? Well, also in the news is fresh blood for Bon Temps.
The actor is newcomer Aaron Perilo, according to CelebBuzz and he will head to the HBO set to portray Blackburn, who is described as “an ancient vampire” with a wicked thirst. Perilo looks the part, doesn’t he? HBO has also cast him in their series Luck, and we’ll get to see him again in the “upcoming sci-fi thriller In Time,” which is already set to star Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. Wow!

Actor Aaron Perilo has joined the fourth season of HBO's popular fantasy-drama as an ancient vampire with an insatiable blood lust who becomes the new Sheriff in town. Following the creation of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is a telepath and waitress at Merlotte's in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), a shapeshifter—though this secret is kept hidden. One night, Sookie meets Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173-year-old vampire who has returned to Bon Temps following the death of his last remaining relative. Alan Ball‘s Emmy-nominated supernatural drama returns for a chilling fourth season that finds barmaid Sookie reeling from revelations...

For all the "True Blood" fans out there, the wait from the end of one season to the start of a new one can be quite grueling. So much so that HBO employed the Twitter hashtag #waitingsucks in its "True Blood" marketing campaigns — and fans couldn't agree more.
Luckily, the waiting game is about to end with the premiere of the fourth season on HBO this Sunday. MTV News spent some quality time with the cast at the show's premiere earlier this week, where we asked the newest faces of "True Blood" to introduce themselves to fans. Very minor spoilers ahead.
"I play Naomi, I am a good friend of Tara," newcomer Vedette Lim told us.

Not since "Buffy" have I been particularly interested in televised teen-age shenanigans, but there's a new girl on the block named Gena Marshall. And in the upcoming dark drama "The Freshman", she leads viewers on a journey through the cliques and social standards of your not-so-modern high school. Ever hear "Don't trust the new girl"? In Gena's case it seems to be excellent advice because as soon as she shows up, her classmates start disappearing.
Filming of the one-hour pilot for "The Freshman" is set to start in Los Angeles in February, 2009. Kellan Rhude (pictured, Return to Sleepaway Camp), Aaron Perilo, Debra Wilson, and Janet Linn have already been cast with more to come. The pilot is being directed by Charles Clemmons from a script penned by Jillian Ashe.
Along with being shopped to cable networks upon completion, "The Freshman" will be available for download on iTunes. No other details on the project are available,...
