However Indian independent films remain limited to festivals as avenues for a proper release and monetization are localised and few. The deadline for submission of applications for the New Voices Fellowship for Screenwriters 2013 has been extended to December 31. The earlier deadline was December 15.
Under the programme, six independent screenwriters with an original story are selected for a grant of Rs 2,00,000 with regular guidance from mentors. The program lasts for eight months. Indian citizens residing in India and over 18 years in age can only apply. There is no application fee.
How to apply?
Applications can be made online or sent by post. The submissions should include, the application form, a one page covering note, the story in 3000-45000 words, synopsis of the story in 300 words, the objective of the story in 150-200 words and first three pages of the script.
The name, address, or any information about the applicant should not appear on any page of the story and the proposed script. All submissions should be made in English or Hindi.

The 12th Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival, New Delhi (27 July to 5 August 2012) will open with Japanese director Keiichi Sato’s “Asura” and close with Rituparno Ghosh’s “Chitragandha”.
Festival announced its competition lineup and highlights on Wednesday.
According to the official press release the festival will present 15 World premieres, 8 International premieres, 104 Indian premieres and 13 Asian premieres from China, Estonia, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Japan, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Morocco and Algeria among other Asian and Arab countries.

Onir and Sanjay Suri, who won the National Award for their film I Am, have been invited to be a part of the Cnc Producers Network at the Cannes Film Festival. The duo, who seeked online funding for their film I Am, will try and meet various filmmakers and other studios to pitch in their forthcoming projects. Some of their forthcoming projects include Chauranga (a love story that deals with caste divide), Coach Kameena (an inspirational sports film set in Punjab) and Shab (a story of a gigolo and a call girl) While Chauranga and Coach Kameena will be directed by debutants Bikas Mishra and Ashwini Malik respectively, Shab will be directed by Onir himself.
