Online video and web series news worth clicking today: Josh Sundquist hit the 100,000 subscriber mark on YouTube this week, giving the Paralympic ski racer, motivational speaker and writer something more to celebrate. “The growth of my channel is due entirely to the awesomeness of the YouTube community. I especially want to thank iJustine. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t possibly exaggerate how much she has helped my channel,” wrote Sundquist in his 100k video (below). Incidentally, he’s giving away the poster from the video to the fan that can guess precisely how long it took him to draw his 100k wall poster. [JoshSundquist on YouTube] Solo: The Series officially launched its Season 1.5 this week on YouTube, and is giving away an iPad2 and five Apple TVs to celebrate the launch thanks to new sponsor DataDirect Networks. The sweepstakes is only open to subscribers of the WatchSOLO channel, so, hint hint.

For the past month or so, I’ve been doing daily YouTube reviews of various things, from food and drink to movies to blog posts on my channel, LonsTV. Occasionally, these reviews have included web shows, mainly because there are so many good ones and so precious few outlets highlighting all this great new content. (Also because there are already a ton of YouTube videos alerting to exactly how much Clash of the Titans sucked, so this was a chance to make my own mark.) And now, once a week, I will be bringing these reviews to you, the Tubefilter reading public. This week, I’m looking at the new series Night of the Zombie King. It’s technically a spin-off of Gold, the humorous slice-of-life take on the world of tabletop role-playing gamers, concerning a relatively minor character from the original series who has been dropped into a different setting with all new characters.

With plenty of press building up to its online debut today, I decided to go on a personal media blackout for Solo: The Series to come in cold as any average potential web series viewer. It’s a sci-fi show, with some space ship special effects. All right, Solo, I’m listening. The reality show in question is set on a ship headed for Mars and back, with everyman dunce Scott Drizhal (creator/writer/actor Jonathan Nail) alone save for the AI aboard the ship. When the show is canceled, everyone on the technical crew on Earth is fired, leaving Jack Spratt (Jay Caputo) stealing equipment to try and bring Scott home. And speaking of the wife, if scene stealing a criminal offense, Michele Boyd (The Guild) would be doing a life sentence at this point. In the pilot she doesn’t show up until about halfway through, and up...
