Hugh Jackman is shaking off the shackles of his X-Men persona, Logan and re-immersing himself back into Hollywood in a political role as the frontrunner in the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination politician Gary Hart in The Frontrunner.
Jackman only this year hung up his Wolverine claws in what can be seen as Logan’s most emotional and greatest outing, now he will don the cap of a political leader who was rocked by shame when his extramarital affair with Diane Rice saw Hart having to concede his nomination.
Based on the 2014 book from political journalist Matt Bai, All the Truth is Out, the story focuses on Hart’s meteoric rise and dramatic fall as he sought the nation’s highest office. Massachusetts Gov. Mike Dukakis, who had been trailing Hart, wound up landing the Democratic nomination. He eventually lost to George Bush. But the Hart story proved to...

What makes a sex scandal stick? How come some politicians philander then flounder, while others get a free pass? Gary Hart, the Democrat who was a shoo-in for the 1987 Democratic presidential nomination, was caught in an affair and had to quit. Similar allegations dogged Bill Clinton in the 1992 race. He ducked, weaved and made it to the Oval Office, where apparently some other shenaniganstook place.
Today those scandals – despite all the hurt, the betrayal, the dry cleaning costs – feel quaint. They were played out in an era when TV news still had time slots, when the world’s first website was only a few months old. The stories developed, the details emerged, slowly.

People breaks it down for you. What is a contested convention?Every election year, a party's nominee is chosen at the summertime convention. Jim Hellwig joined the WWE in 1987 with just two years of experience in the wrestling industry. This included brief stays in Jerry Jarrett’s Memphis territory, Bill Watts’ Mid South, and World Class Championship Wrestling. As has been well documented, he started out tag teaming with Sting after the two of them were discovered together as bodybuilders in California. The team underwent several different names, starting out at Powerteam USA, morphing into the Freedom Fighters, and becoming most famous as the Blade Runners.
It was during his stay in Texas (Wccw) that Hellwig first became the Dingo Warrior. The name came from his manager at the time, Gary Hart, who had worked in Australia earlier in his career. The famous Warrior face paint started during his stint in Wccw, also a nod to Australia and the war paint that the natives wear.

Face it, the '80s were a seriously crap era. All I can think of is music with lots of synthesizers and actually having to take Madonna seriously. Which is just one reason to appreciate what Allison Burnett accomplishes in his novel Christopher - A Tale of Seduction. He plunges us right into Orwell's apocryphal anno, 1984. In a month-by-month diary, he inhabits the psyche of one B. K. Troop, an avowedly gay (queer? homosexual? bent?) narrator who has one of the most delightful, insightful, and -- to use that much maligned term in literary fiction -- enjoyable voices I've come across in a long time. Fresh. He's so out, he's in. He's self-loathing and self-loving at the same time. He's world-weary but, under that coarse, New York-before-condominiums world, he's a real romantic.
With a real heart. And that heart beats for one Christopher -- his avowedly, unabashedly, incorruptibly straight neighbor.

Stephen King has never shied away from politics. His college column, King’s Garbage Truck, mostly dealt with pop culture, but also tackled heady subjects like anti-war rallies and abortion. In 1970’s “A Possible Fairy Tale,” he outlined a 10-day plan for ending the conflict in Viet Nam. His 1984 article, “Why I Am For Gary Hart,” King stated boldly, “Ronald Reagan is a bad president and must be turned out of office.” Allegorically, King has tackled political matters again and again, most notably in The Tommyknockers’ concerns about nuclear power and Under the Dome’s barely sub-textual treatise against George W. Bush.
Which is why his new essay, “Guns,” is a little surprising. Released as a Kindle Single via his own publishing house, Philtrum Press, “Guns” absolutely touches on politics. Just past the illustration of the half-mast American flag on the cover, there’s discussion of Red States and Blue States,...

After months of promotion HBO's film on Sarah Palin and the 2008 campaign, Game Change, will air (finally) this weekend. Conservatives (including Palin, who has not seen the movie) claim that the film is completely unfair and mainly fiction, plus a valentine to Obama from Democratic Hollywood. But the filmmakers say it's (sadly) all fact, except that Julianne Moore plays Palin even better than Palin played Palin.
The only thing surprising to me is that anyone at this late date would be surprised by any embarrassing facts about Palin. The truth has been known almost within hours of McCain lifting her out of obscurity back at the end of August 2008. There even persists in some quarters (including elements of mainstream media) the fantasy that Palin actually boosted McCain and drew support from women voters, when the facts (and the polls) always ran in the opposite direction.

CNN missed a golden opportunity by deciding not to sponsor the final Super Tuesday debate with the Gop Presidential candidates. It reportedly made that decision after being informed that both Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum had decided to withdraw from the debate, and Ron Paul was feeling iffy. After an unprecedented 20-plus debates already this election season, Santorum and Romney (who are friends offstage) had privately decided that the debate would serve only the purposes of Newt Gingrich.
That seems reasonable enough. But hold on a minute. What if CNN had announced it would hold the debate as scheduled, no matter what? If Romney and Santorum didn't want to come, so be it. You know Ron Paul would have been back in like a flash, because the debates have been invaluable to his underfunded campaign.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's affair and Dominique Strauss-Kahn's alleged sexual assault of a maid show men need to talk to each other about how to treat women. Daniel Mulhern, a former first husband of Michigan, offers eight tips on getting the conversation started.
Women talk to each other. And to men, as Michelle Cottle has in her hilariously painful list of seven basic tips for "horny" politicians. Every presidential campaign is a made-for-tv special. Some years it’s a romantic comedy, filled with “bimbo eruptions” (like Bill Clinton’s in 1992) or yachts named “Monkey Business” (Gary Hart’s in 1988). Other years, it plays out more like a crime drama, with hotel break-ins and slush funds and other dirty tricks (Nixon in 1972). Still others (say, Obama’s in 2008) unfold like a thrilling superhero adventure.
And the 2012 campaign? So far, like everything else on TV these days, it’s a reality show.

Ok girlfriends- are you ready to hear Jesse James side of the story? Then get ready to stay up late next Tues night and watch ABC’s Nightline .
The disgraced, cheater and soon-to-be ex-husband of Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has spilled to Nightline’s Vicki Mabrey about the cheating scandal; why he threw away his perfect life and wife, his stint in rehab and his feelings for little Louis, the baby he adopted first with Sandra and who Sandra will now parent alone.
So ladies, this could be the Biggest mea culpa of all time! Jesse’s got to be looking for some understanding and forgiveness here. Question: did he chose Nightline because two infamous political cheaters, John Edwards and Gary Hart, both tried to explain their transgressions on the show? The only thing Jesse, neither of those two men, succeeded in a post-me culpa comeback. Maybe you need to rethink your strategy!

Like so many other mistresses before her, Rielle Hunter will be appearing on a daytime talk show to discuss her side of the affair with former vice presidential candidate John Edwards. Wisely, Hunter decided to appear on the talk show of the Queen Mother of all the other talk shows: Oprah Winfrey.
Hunter has already had an interview with GQ Magazine that included some questionable photos that supposedly "had her in tears." Oprah managed to get the sought-after interview over other talk show hosts as Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters. It is said that John Edwards encouraged her to go on Oprah's show (but that's from the National Enquirer, so treat it with the journalistic respect it deserves).
