NewsOn6.com - Tulsa, Ok - News, Weather, Video and Sports - Kotv.com An Oklahoma semi-truck driver is recovering after intentionally crashing his vehicle in order to save the lives of strangers. Richard Hughes was going to drop his truck off in Tulsa when he came across a chain-reaction crash on the Inner Dispersal Loop caused by a driver backing up on an off-ramp because of a missed exit. Drivers involved in the resulting crash were standing on the road, and Hughes made the decision to drive his truck up a concrete embankment to avoid hitting the bystanders. Director Alexander Mackendrick was unhappy with studio changes to his work, but this unsentimental critical and boxoffice failure remains a compelling adaptation of Richard Hughes' disturbing Lord of the Flies-like novel about hapless pirates undone by their juvenile captives. Harmonica virtuoso Larry Adler's symphonic score is first rate. Note James Coburn's positioning in this trailer as a hot young star-to-be. Look for acclaimed author Martin Amis as the kid who falls from the brothel window.

Keane have revealed that they would like to collaborate with Florence + the Machine. The group told Digital Spy that they want to team up with the star on a "gothic song" they recently recorded called 'Valentine'. Richard Hughes said: "There are millions of people we'd like to work with. Tim has written these gothic songs and we don't know what to do with them. "It'd be great to do this song 'Valentine' as a duet with a female like Florence + the Machine. Ceremonials was a f**king brilliant album." (more)...

Keane’s recent music video for new track “Disconnected” is a love-letter to horror films, a quick-and-dirty narrative that may compel the viewer to turn all the lights on. The track itself? Nice and lovely. “Well, the song is a bit about being disconnected from somebody,” said Keane drummer and co-founder Richard Hughes with a laugh. “We’re not feeling all that bad.” British pop-rock band Keane are optimists, and it shows in their discography. On their brand new album “Strangeland,” out today, the sunny piano melodies have continued support from a bright mix, and an injection of lyrics and atmospheres...

Three-year-old superstar Frankel can rescue British Horse Racing from what has been a disastrous run-up to the inaugural Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot.
A week which should have seen column inches filled with anticipation was instead left dominated by the reaction to new regulations for the use of the whip. The new rules stipulate that jockeys may only use the whip on their horse 7 times during a race, with a maximum of 5 strikes during the final furlong. Any jockey who falls foul faces stiff suspensions. Richard Hughes intensified an already rumbling debate when handing his riding license back to the Bha (British Horseracing Authority).
It could not have been more ill-timed with the first ever British Champions Day taking place today, an event which was created to try and bring more fans to the sport rather than push people further away, which no doubt this week’s negativity will have done.

James Bacon, a friend and chronicler of the stars who worked for the Associated Press and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner during the course of his long career, died Saturday in his sleep of congestive heart failure at his home in Northridge, Calif. He was 96.
During his 75-year career as a newspaperman, columnist and author, Bacon was a confidant of Marilyn Monroe, hung out with John Wayne, knocked back drinks with Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, traded cigars with Winston Churchill and met eight U.S. presidents.
He spent 23 years with AP, followed by 18 years at the Herald Examiner. Most recently, he wrote a weekly column, recalling memories from Hollywood’s glory days, for Beverly Hills 213, where his last column appeared June 6.
He also authored three best-selling books: “Hollywood Is a Four Letter Town,” “Made in Hollywood” and Jackie Gleason’s autobiography “How Sweet It Is,” which he co-authored.

Keane's frontman Richard Hughes is furious with Britain's Conservative Party leaders after learning they're using one of his songs as a political anthem - without his permission. Party leader David Cameron has been using the band's "Everybody's Changing" hit to rally supporters on the campaign trail in the run-up to the U.K. government elections on 6 May.
And Hughes, who supports the current Labor Party Government under Prime Minister Gordon Brown's leadership, is far from happy his song is being used by the opposition. In an angry Twitter rant, he writes, "Told the Tories (Conservatives) played keane at their manifesto launch (sic). Am horrified. To be clear - we were not asked. I will not vote for them."
But the Conservatives are defiant. A representative for the party says, "It's a great song and David's a great fan."...
