Warning: Contains major spoilers for Doctor Who ‘The Power of the Doctor’
News is emerging that the owners of Durdle Door aren’t too happy about their historic landmark being the scene of the thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration in Doctor Who.
Over four million of us tuned in on Sunday night to watch Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor shockingly regenerate into David Tennant in the climax of her final episode, ‘The Power of the Doctor’. It was one of the most anticipated TV moments of the year, and – judging from the reactions on Twitter – the Whovians went wild, essentially becoming the personification of the ‘screaming, crying, throwing up’ meme.
Although many fans were possibly so beside themselves about Tennant’s return that they barely registered where the scene was filmed, this particularly scenic regeneration took place on top of the famous Durdle Door arch near Lulworth in Dorset. However, the owners...

Actor John Barrowman, who portrayed Captain Jack Harkness on Torchwood, has set off a Twitter frenzy with a post depicting a visit to a show landmark in Cardiff, Wales.
Barrowman posted a selfie in front of a shrine to the show’s Ianto Jones, who was Capt. Jack’s lover on the show and tragically died in his arms in a mini-series episode, Children of Earth.
On Friday, Barrowman paid an incognito visit to the impromptu shrine set up to honor the Ianto character in Cardiff, a site near where the series was filmed. The shrine is still very popular with fans 11 years after the television series death.
Torchwood, a Doctor Who spin-off that aired on BBC America in the states, was an investigative unit based in Cardiff that battled extra-terrestrial threats. It ended its run in 2011.

After Maid Marian is kidnapped by the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood must get a band of men together in order to save her. Many are reluctant, given that they are massively outnumbered by the Sheriff’s forces – but those that do join Robin will stop at nothing to defeat the bloodthirsty tyrant. Together, they hatch an audacious plan to penetrate the depths of the Sheriff’s castle and reclaim Robin’s true love.
The first thing that springs to mind, literally, when Robin Hood: The Rebellion starts is do we really need that much on-screen exposition for a film about Robin Hood? After all, we seem to get a new story of this English folklore legend...

To celebrate the home entertainment release of Robin Hood: The Rebellion, available on DVD and Digital HD 5th November, we have a copy of the DVD up for grabs, courtesy of Signature Entertainment! Thrilling swordplay, brutal action and gripping intrigue make this fresh take on Robin Hood a must-watch for fans of Game of Thrones and Vikings, as well as those with a taste for action classics like Die Hard and The Raid.

James Oliver Wheatley, soon be seen in the smash hit TV series Vikings, is a standout as the villainous and eminently hissable Sheriff of Nottingham, while screen legend and star of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Brian Blessed steals the show in the role of Friar Tuck.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by one of the producers. Director: Edward Evers-Swindell. Writers: Edward Evers-Swindell and Antony Jones. Cast: Siwan Morris, Gareth David-Lloyd, James Cosmo, Eleanor Gecks and Joanna Ignaczewska. Dark Signal is an indie film from Wales. Developed by director Edward Evers-Swindell (Infestation, 2005), writer Antony Jones and producer Neil Marshall, this film was released in the United Kingdom, in 2016. Since 2016, the film has found an upcoming United States' theatrical launch via XLrator Media. Dark Signal offers a split narrative. One story is more supernaturally based, while the second relies on a serial killer - the Wedlock Killer. Before the two stories unify in Act III, viewers may want to ask a question: are the two stories on the same timeline? There are a few hints along the way. Meanwhile, the film relies on mystery to hold its tension, through the hidden identities of both the protagonist and antagonist.

Tagline: "Fear the Returned." The first trailer for Edward Evers-Swindell's (Infestation) Dark Signal has hit the air waves. The film stars Siwan Morris, Gareth David-Lloyd and Joanna Ignaczewska. And, this horror film, from Wales, looks to blend several different stories together in this thrilling clip. The film involves at least two separate stories. Single mother Kate (Ignaczewska) is entangled with a desperate robbery plan, which leads her out into the wilderness. BBC 3 was first connected with Doctor Who as a channel mentioned in The Dæmons (1971), and in 2005 became the broadcaster of Doctor Who Confidential (which ran from 2005 – 2011), providing the new series with accompanying documentaries akin to the existing DVD range. Torchwood is back - on audio - and Naoko Mori could be reprising her role of Toshiko 'Tosh' Sato.
Mori told Digital Spy that she has been approached about playing Tosh again in Big Finish's series of audio dramas.
"I miss Torchwood so much," she admitted. "On Twitter, there's been a lot of fans saying, 'Bring it back!' - and it would be so nice to do something.
"I know there's a radio thing happening and they've talked to me about it as well, so hopefully that'll happen in due course."
It's been seven years since Tosh - and her unrequited love interest Owen (Burn Gorman) - were killed off in the gut-wrenching episode 'Exit Wounds'. But if you're still not over it, don't worry - neither is Naoko.
"Still to this day, just thinking about it makes me feel very sad," she said. "That was a really tough scene.

Following in the footsteps of Captain Jack and Ianto, Gwen and Rhys will return for a new Big Finish Torchwood audio story…
Big Finish – the team who have brought us countless Doctor Who audio adventures and several spin-offs – are continuing their Torchwood-themed recruitment drive.
Specifically, they've found a space for Gwen Cooper and Rhys Williams. The loveable couple, described accurately in the press bumf as ‘the heart of Torchwood,’ will return for the third release in Big Finish’s upcoming Torchwood series.
Following in the tradition of bringing back the original cast members (the first story will feature John Barrowman returning as Captain Jack, and the second will star Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto), Big Finish has nabbed Eve Myles and Kai Owen to reprise their roles from the show.

Companions new and old combine as Strax makes the transition to the world of Big Finish's Doctor Who audio adventures…
While rumours of a Paternoster Gang Doctor Who spin-off have been floating around for ages, no one could have predicted this – an audio production that teams up Dan Starkey’s Strax with Tom Baker-era companions Jago and Litefoot, played by Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter (they first appeared in Tom Baker’s The Talons Of Weng-Chiang in 1977).
While classic companions are normally fair game to Big Finish (indeed, there's already 9 series worth of Jago and Litefoot material), Strax’s inclusion here makes him the latest in a very-recently-established trend that has seen the Torchwood cast, the main show's Unit characters, Alex Kingston’s River Song, and Ian McNiece’s Winston Churchill all swap the televisual realm for Big Finish audio adventures, all in the space of the last year.

Big Finish has nabbed another Torchwood cast member for an audio adventure – Gareth David-Lloyd will reprise the role of Ianto…
Good news for Torchwood fans, here - Gareth David-Lloyd is making a return to his Torchwood character Ianto Jones. Similar to John Barrowman’s audio plans, Gareth David-Lloyd will reprise the role of Ianto for a Big Finish audio adventure later this year.
The new story is entitled Torchwood: Fall To Earth, and it will be the second instalment in Big Finish’s new Torchwood audio series (Barrowman’s Torchwood: The Conspiracy will come first). Fall To Earth will see Ianto on the first privately-funded space flight, where everything naturally goes wrong. We're not sure when the story will be set, but we'd guess it'll have to be a few years ago, for obvious reasons.
Said producer James Goss: “There was originally going to be a gap after the first release,...

Usually the scariest thing to come from the radio is some numpty blithering on about dodgy politics or unexpectedly hearing the latest track from Miley Cyrus. Now the team behind Dark Signal wants to explore the idea of a ghostly use for the wireless.Dark Signal finds the wandering spirit of a murdered girl who returns to our world with a desperate message. When a stranded woman overhears her cries, she has to team up with the staff of a local radio station to solve the mystery of how the girl died. James Cosmo, Cinzia Monreale, Joanna Ignaczewska, Gareth David-Lloyd, Siwan Morris, Duncan Pow, Sioned Jones and Eleanor Gecks make up the cast.Neill Marshall is acting as executive producer for the project, adding his name and offering guidance to help boost the, er, Signal. But the actual filmmaking will be down to Edward Evers-Swindell, who will direct from a...

Whenever a horror movie gets funded on Kickstarter, we make it a point to cover the flick immediately, if only to show you guys just what you paid for. Case in point: Robert A. Palmer's I Am Alone.
In the flick a survival reality TV crew (including “Torchwood’s” Gareth David-Lloyd) and their cameraman (Gunner Wright) witness the spread of a zombie-like virus that turns the living into the living dead.
Synopsis
Jacob Fitts, television host and survivalist, with his crew - producer Adam Levine and cameraman Mason Riley - set out to shoot another episode of their popular survival show, I Am Alone. Episode 113 takes us deep into the Colorado Rockies, where Jacob will be left alone for 7 days while his team sets off into town to capture footage and shoot interviews. My pick for best fancy dress at Dragon*Con goes to the man with the Home Depot Horta from Star Trek's first season. Photo: Tony Sullivan My third day at the Dragon*Con scif-fi and fantasy event kicked off with a Doctor Who companions panel. Present were Noel Clarke (Mickey Smith), Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper), Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones) and veteran John Levene (Sergeant Benton). When asked what their favourite creature was, Myles quickly responded "John Barrowman".
Next up, Team Arrow, Kelly Hu, Seth Gable, Janina Gavankar, Manu Bennett and the irrepressible John Barrowman. In fact, I think they should just hand over the whole convention to Barrowman. Gavankar managed to hold her own, while Barrowman recreated falling off his chair from a panel the previous day and re-enacted a torture scene with Manu Bennett standing in for Stephen Amell, which involved a gratuitous nipple tweak.

Dedicated television viewers know that there will always be shows that everyone wants you to watch, either it’s a cult show, a show that ended way before it’s time, or seems to grab everyone’s attention but yours. However many viewers find themselves stumbling upon these shows either years later or late into a shows run. I’ve compiled a list of ten shows, published once a week, that have become classics or are on their way to doing so and have recently been discovered by this writer.

Big news: There will be a Torchwood: Children of Earth reunion at Calgary Comic Expo, featuring John Barrowman, Gareth David-Lloyd and Eve Myles. Ianto lives! Now who's going?
My friend Rod McCullom writes about the possibility of an African pope coming next month, and it's not good news for gays, HIV on the continent, or condom education.
After months of drama that ultimately meant nothing but political theater when there are real problems to solve, Senator Chuck Hagel has been confirmed as Defense Secretary. Most gay advocacy groups are celebrating his commitment to further implementing the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
More than 75 influential Republicans have filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court asking them to overturn Prop 8. Among them is Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay, who was a pro 8 supporter when she ran for governor of California. She says she changed her mind because "there is no legitimate,...

Feature Andrew Blair Dec 20, 2012
Andrew's weekly Torchwood reappraisal comes to the show's crowning moment: Children Of Earth...
This feature contains spoilers.
It's more horrific the second time you watch it, because you know what and why.
Children of Earth is rare: a prime-time sci-fi drama that capitalised and expanded on its audience. Viewing figures were consistently high in what was considered a graveyard slot. Critical and popular acclaim followed. This does not happen often.
Russell T. Davies has been accused of colourful, sentimentalised television. Children of Earth is brutal, pessimistic, and a behind-the-scenes triumph. It was cut down to five episodes rather than thirteen due to licence fee and budgetary issues, and had to accomodate cast unavailability (Noel Clarke and Freema Agyeman's presence was set up in Journey's End, but they were unable to reprise their roles). Anyone who's read A Writer's Tale will know that it was a difficult process to write,...

The results are in! We asked readers to name their favorite TV characters of all time and thousands responded. This year, for the first time, we weren't just asking about favorite gay TV characters. Folks could vote for characters of either gender - and all persuasions. Of course, this being AfterElton we expected gay characters to figure prominently on this list - and they do - but it is interesting to see what female and straight TV roles also resonated with the AfterElton readership.
Before we get to the actual rankings, here are a few statistics.
First, the top fifty came from a broad range of TV shows. Thirty programs were represented, and the two that made the best showing (Glee and Modern Family) placed only four characters each in the rankings.
Second, female characters nabbed 15 of the top 50 spots, or 30%.

What is it about Wales that it produces so many extremely attractive and talented men? Despite having a population of only three million, the country has given the world a long list of handsome actors, singers and celebrities including Luke Evans, Tom Jones, Ioan Gruffudd, Matthew Rhys, John Rhys Ifans, Anthony Hopkins, Gareth David-Lloyd and the recently deceased Andy Whitfield.
To that list I predict will soon be added 34-year-old Steve Jones, whose career is likely to hit hyperdrive when Simon Cowell’s U.S. version of The X Factor hits American television next Wednesday night.
Why am I so confident that U.S audiences will take to Jones? Well, everyone knows us gay guys are trendsetters when it comes to the next hot thing and many of us have been aware that the 6’2’’ Welshman is not only incredibly easy on the eyes, but is as charismatic as they come.

After last week’s controversial episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day, the question that haunted us was not whether it was okay to torture a man to death if he cannot die, but rather: who killed Torchwood? For a show that fans had been clamoring for and which cheered when it was announced that it had risen from certain death and cancellation by the joint financial efforts of Starz and BBC America to resurrect it as an American television series, who knew that within such a short timeframe that one would be wishing it had never been raised from the dead.
The irony is that Torchwood: Miracle Day tells the tale of what the world would look like if death ceased to exist. Miracle Day was the day that people stopped dying. Death had finally abandoned us and left the entire human race to rot for eternity. The blessing soon became...

Gareth David Lloyd plays yet another character in an ill-fated workplace romance.
(He looks good in period garb though!)
Note: snicks normally covers Warehouse 13 for us, but he's dealing with some health issues at the moment. We might have just let this week's recap slide, but Gareth David-Lloyd makes an appearance and we haven't seen much of this popular actor since he so distressingly bit it in Torchwood.
So here's my short, sad stab at one of snicks' picture recaps. Please, fans of the show, could you augment this in the comments with your observations about last night's episode?

The Star of a show that was cancelled after just one series has beaten Doctor Who to the top spot in a poll to find sci-fi fans' favourite hero.
Voters picked Captain Mal Reynolds, who led the cast of cult American television series Firefly and its film spin-off Serenity, as the ultimate sci-fi hero.
The Time Lord, now in his 11th incarnation portrayed by Matt Smith, was pushed into second place despite being a hit on the small screen for decades.
Torchwood's Captain Jack Harkness - played by John Barrowman - came third in the poll of 10,000 people. His former lover Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) was in sixth place, showing the enduring popularity of the character, who was killed off in the third series of the show.
Despite an outcry from fans, there are no plans to resurrect the character, with Barrowman week telling the Windy City Times that Ianto "won't be coming back.

Torchwood: Miracle Day star John Barrowman has insisted that Captain Jack's deceased lover Ianto Jones "won't be coming back into the series".
Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd)'s death during the sci-fi drama's third series in 2009 sparked an outcry from some fans, but Barrowman said in an interview with The Windy City Times that a resurrection for the character is unlikely.
"I think we have moved on," Barrowman explained. "Torchwood creator Russell T Davies explains it better - he says we couldn't have transplanted the show in the States and brought the entire company with it. People had to die!"

A lot of "Torchwood" fans -- we're looking at you, Zap2it readers -- are still lamenting the demise of Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd).
His death in "Children of Earth" marked a premature end for his romance with Captain Jack (John Barrowman) and a major fan gripe going into "Miracle Day." So when the cast convened for its Comic-Con panel on Friday (July 22) morning, they explained that fans are supposed to be upset.
"It was exactly the reaction we hoped for and wanted," Barrowman assures the crowd. "It means you're committed."
That said ... they didn't do it. "It wasn't our decision," says Barrowman, who gestured to equally innocent co-star Eve Myles. "It wasn't our fault. But in order to move the drama on, we had to do something drastic ... The one thing we are is a drama. In drama you have to do some things that will, unfortunately, upset and cause change.

Doctor Who begat Torchwood and now the new series tries to find a home at Starz. To welcome the series .crossing the pond. onto American telly, the BBC has collected all of the previously released Blu-ray content onto a new set. Those expecting something new will be a bit disappointed. Torchwood is a shadowy UK government agency founded by Queen Victoria to prevent alien invasion. The head of the unit is the immortal, literally, Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman). Dr. Owen Harper (Burn Gorman) is the medical officer, Toshiko Sato (Naoko Mori) is the computer specialist, and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) is the doorman that handles most other duties. Police officer Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) gets involved...

When I walk onto the Los Angeles set of Torchwood: Miracle Day, John Barrowman is in full performance mode, but the cameras aren’t rolling. Everyone’s waiting for the next scene to be ready, so in the meantime, Barrowman is entertaining the crew and his fellow cast members with an elaborate anecdote that involved two perfectly-executed pratfalls and a dead-on impersonation of Carol Channing.
With that kind of showman’s instinct, it’s no surprise that Barrowman, 44, has become an international sensation for his starring role as Torchwood’s Captain Jack Harkness, a bisexual, immortal con man who spends his days chasing down aliens and other bizarre phenomena. But even when he’s not topping the bill on the hit BBC series, which has traveled Stateside for its new season, co-produced by the Starz network, the Scottish-born, Illinois-raised Barrowman keeps his fanbase busy with multiple projects in his adopted...
