Mary J. Blige has a long, illustrious career, riddled with Top Ten hits, million-selling albums, Grammys, and Oscar nominations. But there’s one project that has particular importance for her: “I have 13 albums, but my second, My Life, is my most important,” she says in a new documentary commemorating the LP, originally released in 1994. Blige sees My Life not only as the moment she “started speaking to my fans” but also as “the place where I survived.” That narrative of survival, of walking through the fire only to emerge stronger on the other side,...

On Monday, Mixtape Daily crowned Drake's So Far Gone the best mixtape of 2009, but there were plenty of others that excited fans from 'hood to 'hood — plenty of mixtapes that were so popular the street couldn't contain them and they made their way into the 'burbs and even onto TV stations like Espn. So without further ado — and in no order of preference — here's our list of the rest of the best mixtapes of 2009.
The Hottest Mixtapes Of 2009
50 Cent: Forever King
DJ Collaborator: Whoo Kid
Necessary Notes: Who uses a Jackson 5 beat as the soundscape to rap about one of his one of his neighbors pumping crack cocaine down the block? 50 Cent! Who uses Jeff Redd's dance-floor-friendly '90s R&B classic instrumental...

Happy birthday to all the cancers out there — including MTV's own Shaheem Reid, Sway and Mixtape Daily go-to girl Whitney, not to mention Jim Jones and the G-Unit General himself, 50 Cent. Fif's born day was Monday, but he's still serving treats. He released his second mixtape in just a couple of weeks, , Forever King, and says in addition to the upcoming G-Unit mixtape, he might put out another free CD prior to Before I Self Destruct in September. Trey Songz is also locked in the studio, and he wants a bigger and better spot. Who's gonna stand in his way?
Finally and obviously, rest in peace to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Thank you for a lifetime of classic songs, videos, performances and moments. Your genius is eternal.

Forever King: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive
50 Cent is definitely up on everything. He looks at the Internet just like everybody else. Sitting in his New York office Thursday (July 2), 50 was looking at the Drake video, refusing to watch Game's apology to the G-Unit on MTVNews.com and answering calls from Leonardo DiCaprio's camp for a dinner with the movie star. All that, and he played his latest mixtape, Forever King for Mixtape Daily. He was originally going to call his latest mixtape Sincerely Yours: Southside Part 2, and on it he planned to rap over '90s R&B classics. But in the end he decided to throw in some additional flavor with his throwback stylings.
