Lille — All3Media International has closed multiple major territories on ITV’s ratings champ “Trigger Point,” adding to stellar viewer numbers after Season 2 of the edge-of-the-seat thriller bowed last month averaging 6.9 million viewers across Itvx and ITV1.
That ranks as the third biggest audience for an ITV show since Jan. 2022.
Created by Daniel Brierly and produced by Htm Television, co-owned by Jed Mercurio, behind “Line of Duty” and “Bodyguard,” “Trigger Point” turns on members of a bomb disposal squad led by explosives officer Lana Washington (Vicky McClure).
Washington is back from Estonia, training Ukrainian bomb disposal operatives, having suffered post-traumatic stress disorder after the high body count of Season One. Almost immediately, there’s an explosion at the local power plant and Washington is the nearest expert. But can she hold her nerve?

British TV shows fetched a record £1.85B ($2.25B) in 2022-23, new stats reveal.
Sales to streamers boomed and finished tape deals came back into fashion to help exports grow 22% year-on-year, Pact’s UK TV Exports Report revealed.
Demand for shows such as The Ipcress Files, Frozen Planet II and This England built even as the international TV business faced a brutal economy, a battered TV ad market and major buyers withholding spend. Half of respondents said their business was impacted by the period of austerity and cost management at large U.S. companies.
For the first time, over half of programmes (53%) were sold to international streaming and VoD platforms, up from 39% last year. This could be connected to the growth in finished program sales, with streamers more likely to license as they pulled away from costlier original content spend.

The Traitors has done for formats what Top Gun: Maverick “did for the summer blockbuster,” says Glenn Hugill, with barely a hint of hyperbole.
Deal or No Deal exec Hugill, who was not involved with the creation of the The Traitors, believes its success “benefits all of us in the business.” He is one of several unscripted creatives and sellers who tell Deadline they are bullish about the state of the sector.
As these execs gear up for next week’s Mip TV confab in Cannes, Hugill does not refrain from talking up The Traitors’ impact, a show that has now made waves in the U.S., UK, Australia, France and a number of European territories, along with its home country of The Netherlands where it was forged by All3Media label Idtv.

If Hollywood writers go on strike — a possibility as we close in on the May 1 deadline without a new deal between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) — the impact will be felt far beyond New York and Los Angeles. Around the world, producers and distribution companies, not to mention non-wga affiliated writers, are closely watching the ongoing negotiations, with an expectation that a WGA walkout could mean a boost in demand for new international content.
“As with previous WGA strikes, we’d expect there will be an increased demand for content from outside the U.S., particularly from English-speaking countries like the U.K. and Australia,” says Martin Moszkowicz and Oliver Berben of German mini-major Constantin Film, producers of the English-language Resident Evil horror franchise as well as German films and series including We Children From Bahnhof Zoo, which streams on Amazon,...

Fox is beefing up its scripted series roster for the 2023-24 season.

Alert will also have a new showrunner in season two, with Carla Kettner (The Blacklist, Bones) taking over for co-creator John Eisendrath (who will remain an executive producer).
“Accused and Alert stand out as two of this season’s new broadcast and multi-platform success stories,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in a statement. “Looking to 2023-24, we’ll continue to deliver on the powerful storytelling coming from both series, building on our incredible partnership with Sony and further solidifying Fox’s strong slate of dramas, giving our schedule tremendous season-to-season stability.”

Top International execs from Zdf Studios, Fremantle, All3Media and Banijay have said the potential U.S. writers strike and changing market economics can create opportunities to strike new business.
As Banijay Rights CEO Cathy Payne put it, likening the challenging of leaving previous market conditions behind to bouncing back after being dumped: “When one door closes, another one opens.” She was talking during a Series Mania panel on windowing and content financing this afternoon in France.
International distribution companies are already wrestling with myriad content financing issues as the U.S. market corrects after streamers’ spending momentum slows. All eyes are now turning to the discussions between the WGA and AMPTP, and one potential upshot if a strike kicks off will likely be more international business for U.S. networks.
All3Media International CEO Louise Pedersen said U.S. execs at the London TV Screenings at the start of the month had begun considering contingency plans.

The groundbreaking British series “Queer as Folk” flies over to Peacock for its third iteration ripe for a whole new generation.
Showrunner Stephen Dunn (“Closet Monster”), who also writes, directs, and executive produces the Peacock original series. Here the creator reimagines the beloved original show created by Russell T Davies to center on a group of diverse, unapologetically queer friends in New Orleans whose lies are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy. Watch the first trailer below.
The original British series ran for two seasons from 1999 to 2000. “Queer As Folk” later was revived in the U.S. on Showtime with a five-season run from 2000 to 2005. Dunn called the series his “awakening,” and while the Peacock show is not a reboot, the all-queer writing team uses the original show as inspiration.

Peacock has released the first trailer for “Queer as Folk,” pulling the curtain back on its reimagining of the TV series created by Russell T. Davies.
The new series relocates from Pittsburgh, Pa. to New Orleans, La., exploring the lives of a diverse community of LGBTQ+ individuals whose lives are altered following a tragedy. The trailer takes a look into the world of the city’s queer clubbing scene and the private lives of characters played by series stars Devin Way, Fin Argus, Jesse James Keitel, CG, Johnny Sibilly and Ryan O’Connell.
“Like most queer ‘90s kids, I had a unique relationship with the original ‘Queer as Folk.’ Growing up, I was desperate for any sort of connection with people like me. It was the first time I really felt seen,” showrunner Stephen Dunn said in a statement. “The show offered a new paradigm — one where we could accept and celebrate queer love,...

Billy Porter will direct an episode of Fox’s upcoming anthology drama series “Accused.” The episode will tell the story of a drag queen’s “whirlwind affair that leads to devastating consequences,” per Sony Pictures Television.
Based on the BBC series of the same name, “Accused” begins in a courtroom, with viewers having no knowledge of what the defendant is accused of or why they are there. Each episode will feature a different cast, exploring each defendant’s point of view through flashbacks as viewers learn how they ended up on trial.
Porter is an award-winning actor, singer, director and writer. He won an Emmy for his leading role as Pray Tell on the FX series “Pose,” and won a Tony for his starring role as the drag queen Lola in the 2013 Broadway musical “Kinky Boots.” He was most recently seen in Amazon’s “Cinderella” alongside Camila Cabello and Idina Menzel.

“All Creatures Great and Small,” the wholesome reboot of the popular British veterinarian drama, is returning for Seasons 3 and 4.
U.K. broadcaster Channel 5 and PBS Masterpiece in the U.S. have officially signed on for two more seasons of the Playground-produced drama. Each season will get a 6-episode order, along with a Christmas special. PBS Masterpiece, which will debut Season 2 on Sunday (Jan. 9), is co-producing along with distributor All3Media International selling the series globally.
The show is based on a series of books written by vet Alf Wight under the pen name of James Herriot. An early adaptation of the books, also called “All Creatures Great and Small,” aired on the BBC from 1978 to 1990 and was enormously popular. ViacomCBS-backed broadcaster Channel 5 rebooted the show in 2020 to critical acclaim — a ballsy move given it was one of the broadcaster’s first attempts at scripted content, having been a historically unscripted channel.

PBS Masterpiece and ViacomCBS UK’s Channel 5 have shown faith in All Creatures Great and Small with a rare double season order.
Lead writer and exec Ben Vanstone had already all but confirmed a third run but the commitment to a seven-episode fourth is demonstrative of the success of the reboot of the 1980s UK hit, which has achieved killer ratings on both sides of the Atlantic.
The first season of the James Herriot adaptation attracted 10M U.S. viewers while, in the UK, episodes regularly consolidate above the 5M mark and the drama has helped establish Channel 5 as a creative force, most recently airing a highly-rated Christmas special.
Filming on season three will kick off in Yorkshire in the spring, re-joining the beloved Skeldale House family in the Spring of 1939 as the prospect of another World War looms large over the Dales. Change is afoot for all the Darrowby residents,...

Apple TV Plus set Chris Miller and Phil Lord’s “The Afterparty” for a January 2022 debut and released a teaser for the upcoming murder mystery.
The show is set at a high school reunion, and each of the eight episodes retells the events of the night through a different character’s perspective — and therefore unique visual style.
“This is one of the most surprising, original and fun projects we’ve ever made,” said Lord and Miller. “Our goal was to tell a comedic whodunit story in a new and exciting way. By giving each episode its own unique style of storytelling, we were able to make what feels like eight distinctly different but interconnected films that highlight how everyone’s personal perspective and biases shape how they see the world.”
The show stars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Jamie Demetriou and Dave Franco.

Exclusive: International TV sales chiefs have said MipTV’s waning power has been compounded by the coronavirus pandemic, which has accelerated the switch to year-round online sales activity and increased the emphasis on local and genre-specific events.
Speaking to Deadline ahead of the virtual MipTV next week, studio bosses acknowledged the continued importance of global markets, but questioned if there is space for two annual showpiece gatherings in Cannes. In response, MipTV organizer Reed Midem said it is always talking to delegates about designing markets to meet industry needs.
The decline of MipTV was in evidence last year, even before the pandemic swept the globe. Amid the increasing importance of local events, such as the London Screenings, studios including Fremantle, Banijay, and ITV Studios pulled out of exhibiting at MipTV in 2020. Major U.S. players like Disney have also long skirted MipTV due to its proximity to the LA Screenings.
