Like millions of their fellow Americans, the First Family often gathers around the television on Sunday nights to watch ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team create livable homes for families in need. Such a fan of the show, First Lady Michelle Obama couldn't resist jumping in and helping out on the Sept. 25 season premiere. "This particular show is especially moving because it features Barbara Marshall, a Navy veteran, who despite her own struggles opened her home to serve homeless female veterans in her community," Obama tells People. "She's an amazing example of the strength, values and service of America's veterans.

This week's story takes us to Fayetteville, N.C. where we met up with a woman by the name of Barbara Marshall. Barbara Marshall is a veteran of the Navy and she has seen a problem develop over the years with our women veterans coming back from deployment and then finding themselves homeless, without jobs and in really tough situations. Barbara has decided to take it upon herself to help these women and their children by bringing them into the Steps and Stages Jubilee House and give them a chance to get back on their feet.

As part of her signature Joining Forces initiative to support military families, Obama will join the show's host, Ty Pennington, and his team on Thursday to help homeless female veterans in Fayetteville, N.C., reports USA Today.
The 46th first lady of the United States will be on hand while the popular ABC show builds a new facility for Barbara Marshall, a 15-year Navy veteran who started the Steps-n-Stages Jubilee House program to help end homelessness among women vets.
The White House informed the national newspaper that the event will be closed to the press.
