The Laurence Fishburne-produced and Laura Checkoway-directed documentary, The Cave of Adullam, which premieres tonight at the Tribeca film festival, and repped by CAA Media Finance, ICM Partners and Paradigm–is a love letter to masculine vulnerability. Cave leader Jason Wilson uses a quote from Frederick Douglas for reference, “It’s easier to raise boys than repair broken men.” Through martial arts, meditation, discipline, and emotional expression, he’s helping the young men of Detroit create a new way of living beyond the temptations of crime and gang culture.
His teachings encourage young men to cry, be upset, and be okay with expressing their feelings, which forgoes the idea that Black men must bottle up their feelings because it’s not what men do. The film follows four young men as Wilson reprograms their understanding of masculinity and gives them problem-solving tools to break the generational trauma of manhood.

I usually don’t post many articles on television shows, since our site focuses heavily on film, but I couldn’t resist posting this bit of news. Just the other day my co-workers were joking around about how someone should just go ahead and make a Pac-Man television show, since Hollywood relies so heavily and shamelessly on brand names. Well according to Deadline, Merv Griffin Entertainment has teamed with leading game maker Namco Bandai Games America, to develop an unscripted series based on the hugely popular video game. The project also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the best-selling game and 1980s pop culture icon.

If you've ever wanted to eat a bunch of dots while running through a maze, you may soon have your chance. Merv Griffin Entertainment, the company behind Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, has teamed with Namco Bandai Games America to develop a reality game show based on the popular video game [1] Pac-Man. Incidentally, did you know the original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man? Read more after the jump. Roy Bank, Merv's head of Television described the show to Deadline as follows [2]: A big, crazy Wipeout-type event with a lot of energy. The idea we have is to take what Pac-Man is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world's biggest game of tag to television. This won't be Pac-Man's first trip to television. He actually did make it to TV once before, in 1982 and 1983 as an animated cartoon series. Here's what the opening of the show looked like.

Former Baywatch star Donna D'Errico has criticised airport security staff for singling her out for a body scan, alleging she was selected because they thought she was "attractive".
The actress and former Playboy model was flying from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her boyfriend Roy J. Bank and her 17-year-old son Rhyan.
D'Errico was pulled aside by workers who told her she would have to go through the controversial scanner, which displays the contours of passengers' bodies.
The blonde beauty claims she felt "overexposed" and is adamant staff could have picked anyone from the crowd, but chose her because of her looks.
She tells AOL News, "It is my personal belief that they pulled me aside because they thought I was attractive... My boyfriend sailed through with no problems, which is rather ironic in that he fits the stereotypical 'look' of a terrorist when his beard has grown a bit.
"After the search, I noticed that the male agent who had pulled me out of line was smiling and whispering with two other agents and glancing at me. I was outraged.
"This could, and I'm sure does, happen to other women. It isn't right to hide behind the veil of security and safety in order to take advantage of women, or even men for that matter, so that you can see them naked. It's a misuse of power and authority, and as much a personal violation as a Peeping Tom. The difference is that Peeping Toms can have charges pressed against them."
A spokesperson for airport security has denied there was any improper behaviour from employees.

ABC has given a series order to a classic Russian game show in which teams work together to solve puzzles.
In "The Six" (originally titled "What? Where? When?"), six players must collaborate to solve nontrivia logic games within 60 seconds. ABC has ordered six episodes from Merv Griffin Entertainment.
"When was the last time you saw a group dynamic that wasn't about backstabbing?" Merv Griffin Entertainment TV president Roy Bank said. "Here, there's no voting, no eliminations. You make money only as a team."
The top-rated Russian version of "Six" has been on the air since 1975, the same year Griffin's "Wheel of Fortune" debuted in daytime. The ABC version has tapped U.K. personality Vernon Kay to host. The show seeks to distinguish itself from other quiz shows by its logic-based questions.
"No one member may know the answer," Bank said. "But given enough time or smarts, they can figure out the answer.

The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming … to American reality television.
ABC has ordered a presentation for a U.S. version of “What? Where? When?” the No. 1 Russian game show that next year will mark its 35th anniversary.
Merv Griffin Entertainment is producing the project, tentatively titled “The Six,” after the number of contestants on the show.
“What?” was created by veteran Russian TV host and director Vladimir Voroshilov. It premiered in 1975, the same year Merv Griffin’s “Wheel of Fortune” made its debut as a daytime show.
The two have something else in common: Their centerpiece is a spinning horizontal wheel divided into segments. While on “Wheel” three contestants compete against one another in solving a word puzzle, on “What” a team of six “knowledgeable persons” or “experts” compete against viewers. Each segment on the wheel represents a viewer question. When the spinner lands on a question, the...

Fox aims to redefine sketch comedy with a half-hour pilot developed and greenlighted under the network's alternative programming chief Mike Darnell.
The ensemble -- referred to as untitled comedy troupe project, or "Inside Jokes" -- hails from Merv Griffin Entertainment, with "Entourage" co-star Kevin Connolly on board as an executive producer. The pilot is filming this week, hosted by Cameron Bender and featuring five other cast members: Mary Scheer, Jay Phillips, Carrie Wiita, Paul Schackman and Lauren Rose Lewis.
The project is the brainchild of playright/actor/acting coach Ted Brunetti, who first approached Merv Griffin TV president Roy Bank about the idea. Bank brought in Connolly, who has been venturing into directing and producing.
The three will executive produce with Ron Ward and John Moffitt.
Gerry Cohen is directing the pilot for the project, which Bank describes as "a new way of doing sketch comedy."

Merv Griffin Prods. is developing a weight-loss reality competition series starring fitness and nutrition expert to the stars Harley Pasternak.
The company's president of television Roy Bank said he had been looking to get into the weight-loss/body-transformation space and quickly identified Pasternak as the perfect person to tackle it with.
"What he brought to the table is a perfect combination: He is a talent but also an expert," Bank said of the trainer who has appeared on the top TV talk shows and has been featured in numerous magazines.
The show, which will be taken to the broadcast networks shortly, echoes "The Biggest Loser" and "The Amazing Race" as it combines the adventures of international travel with a weight-loss competition.
It is based on Pasternak's upcoming book "World Diet," which profiles the 10 healthiest countries in the world and the relationship between their ranking and the local lifestyle and diet.

Salma Hayek has teamed up with Merv Griffin Entertainment to develop a wedding-themed reality series.
Roy Bank, president of television at Merv Griffin Entertainment, said the hourlong project is being shopped to both broadcast and cable networks.
While the format is being kept under wraps, "this is not a docu soap," Bank said. "The format is steeped in reality -- it's not contrived. It's a unique storytelling angle on weddings that has never been seen on television before."
Bank and Hayek would executive produce with Jose Tamez, Hayek's producing partner in her Ventanarosa Prods.
Bank added that the project is based on an original idea of Hayek, who brought the concept to his company.
"I was flattered that she would bring me anything -- she's such a fabulous producer -- and I jumped at it," Bank said.

Global talent agency and TV producer IMG is in talks to acquire at least part of Mark Burnett's Mark Burnett Prods.
The Survivor mastermind has been looking to sell his company for some time and last year retained Bear Stearns to shepherd the process. Burnett has met with a range of potential buyers, including top reality players FremantleMedia, Endemol and CKX, the parent company of 19 Entertainment.
IMG -- which has made growth in TV a major priority since tapping former HBO boss Chris Albrecht as global media head in September and giving him access to a $250 million private-equity fund for acquisitions and investments -- also has been in the market for a successful reality production company.
IMG has talked with such players in the field as Bunim/Murray and the Gurin Co., and in April, it inked a deal with Glassman Media to partner on producing and distributing unscripted series.
The parameters of the potential deal with Burnett's company, first reported by Deadline Hollywood Daily, are still unclear, with insiders indicating that at least half the company is up for sale. The rumored price tag is $250 million, outpacing the $200 million Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine group recently shelled out for another big U.S. reality player, Reveille, which also boasts a successful scripted division. In 2000, CKX paid $200 million for 19 Entertainment, the company of American Idol creator Simon Fuller.
In what could be another sign of Burnett's intentions, his top business associates at MBP, Conrad Riggs and Roy Bank, recently exited the company.

Roy Bank, former head of development, production and corporate operations at Mark Burnett Prods., has joined Merv Griffin Entertainment in the newly created position of president of television.
Bank recently exited MBP, which he joined after working in development at Reveille, where he first worked alongside Burnett on NBC's "The Restaurant". Bank continued working with Burnett on several shows, including NBC's "The Apprentice" and CBS' "Rock Star: INXS", before joining MBP full time in 2005.
Bank, one of The Hollywood Reporter's Next Generation Class of 2006, most recently co-created and was executive producer alongside Burnett on NBC's upcoming game show "Amnesia".
"Merv (who died last year) left us with an entrepreneurial model and a mandate to move ahead with our core business, which is television," Griffin Group heads Rob Pritchard and Ron Ward said. "No one could fit our expectations in this area better than Roy."
Added Bank: "I was drawn to MGE, not only by the tradition that comes with Merv Griffin's incredible legacy, but also by the unique opportunity to implement my own vision with the backing of Merv's hand-picked team."
MGE is developing a new slate of original programming; its syndicated game show "Merv Griffin's Crosswords" was renewed for a second season last month.
