NBC has announced its next America’s Got Talent spinoff.
The new iteration is titled AGT: Fantasy League and is set to premiere in early 2024. It borrows a wrinkle from another NBC unscripted staple, The Voice, in that the show’s judges will have a stake in which acts advance through the competition.
AGT: Fantasy League will take the midseason spot occupied by AGT: All-Stars last season, though the latter is still alive at the network and could return another time. NBC teased a new twist on the format in announcing its 2023-24 schedule in May.
Singer and songwriter Mel B — who was a judge on the main series for six seasons — will return to the judges’ table for Fantasy League, joining Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. Terry Crews will continue his role as host.

NBC has ordered a new spinoff of the popular talent competition series, “America’s Got Talent” titled “AGT: Fantasy League,” the network announced on Thursday. The show is scheduled for a 2024 arrival.
Similar to a fantasy sports draft, the judges will each choose a roster of their favorite acts on “Fantasy League” picking from the winners, finalists, viral sensations and fan favorites from “America’s Got Talent” and “Got Talent” franchises around the world pre-selected by viewers. For the first time in franchise history, each judge will compete alongside the contestants and will mentor and guide the acts throughout the competition in the hopes that their team will earn the title of champion. The Golden Buzzer will be back sending acts straight to the finals, but with a twist, as each judge can use their coveted Golden Buzzer for their own act or to steal an act from another judges’ team.

Updated: The network upfronts are once again front-and-center for the television industry as major players gather in New York May 15-17 for the springtime ritual of presenting programming plans for the upcoming TV season.
Upfronts are always a hectic time, but this year it’s even more so because of the writers strike that began May 2. Writers and many actors are sitting out the upfront presentations in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America. The promise of WGA pickets surrounding all major events spurred Netflix to make a hasty decision to switch to a virtual presentation rather than an in-person event at the company’s Paris Theater.
As content chiefs outline their plans for the 2022-2023 television season, here is a running list of new drama and comedy series orders handed out by ABC, Disney, CBS, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC, Fox, the CW and other major players in the upfront.

NBC has pushed “American Song Contest,” its ambitious U.S. take on the legendary Eurovision Song Contest, back a month in order to give the production more time to handle Covid concerns when it comes to having a live audience.
“American Song Contest” will now premiere on Monday, March 21 at 8 p.m. Et, and air there for eight weeks, with a finale on May 9. NBC has tweaked its midseason schedule, pushing the premiere of Eurovision offshoot American Song Contest by a month, from the previously announced Monday, Feb. 21 (8-10 p.m.) to March 21. Taking over the slot is new reality series America’s Got Talent: Extreme, which made headlines last fall when a contestant was badly hurt in an on-set accident.
According to sources, the decision to delay American Song Contest is being done over Covid concerns amid the current Omicron surge as the series consists of live shows whose logistics could be difficult in the current wave of rampant infections nationwide.

America’s Got Talent is one of the first big-budget non-scripted formats to resume filming following the Covid-19 production shutdown.
The NBC show started shooting outside last week in Los Angeles and the Fremantle and Syco-produced show put in a number of interesting processes to ensure a safe return.
Creator Simon Cowell and exec producers Sam Donnelly and Jason Raff tell Deadline how they did it.
Before the shutdown, the show, which returned on May 26, shot the first six audition shows and the challenge for the team was how to resume production on its Judge Cuts episodes and its live episodes.
The show shot in the Simi Valley on a huge outdoor movie stage that was created to look like an drive-in movie theater. The judges, Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Modern Family star Sofia Vergara, turn up in separate cars and sit in socially distanced directors chairs to watch the performers.

America’s Got Talent released a first look photo today of the show’s season 15 judges panel.
The picture shows Agt creator and judge Simon Cowell and longtime judge Howie Mandel. They’re joined by newcomer Sofía Vergara, returning panelist Heidi Klum and returning host Terry Crews.
The revamped panel comes after the NBC competition series filled its two vacant chairs last week, following the exits of Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough, who were let go in November after one season.
This will be Modern Family star Sofía Vergara’s first turn as a judge. Klum, who was a panelist on Agt from 2013-2018, is coming back.
The first round of production for America’s Got Talent: Season 15 will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium throughout the month of March.
The series is co-produced by Fremantle and Syco Entertainment. Cowell, Sam Donnelly, Jason Raff, Trish Kinane and Richard Wallace are the executive producers.

Audrey Morrissey can’t stop the feeling.
The showrunner and executive producer of NBC’s “The Voice” spends most of her professional life thinking about songs. She thinks about the new and not-so-new tunes that should be in the repertoire of her hit singing-competition series. She thinks about how music can be a signpost for shifts in the culture. More than anything, she thinks about songs and artists and how to present them onstage for two very different sets of viewers at the same time: those in the studio audience and those watching on couches and beds and Barcaloungers at home.
Now, after a long run as a highly sought-after producer of concert specials, awards shows, live events and musical moments for the screen, Morrissey, 52, is getting her first shot at launching a series, which she co-created with famed songwriter-producer Dave Stewart and her husband and longtime collaborator, director Ivan Dudynsky.
