Kirsten Dunst was left upset and exasperated when she testified at the trial of a man accusing of stealing her handbag, insisting she was made to look like a "stupid actress" when she took the stand. James Jimenez was accused of raiding the "Spider-Man" star's suite at the SoHo Grand Hotel in New York in 2007 while the actress was filming "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People" with Simon Pegg and Megan Fox.
Jimenez was found guilty of trespassing last year and he headed back to court this summer to face a retrial on a burglary charge. Dunst testified during the trial and Jimenez was later found guilty and sentenced to four years in prison.
But the actress endured a harrowing experience on the stand when defense attorneys questioned her about a stash of marijuana which was found in a purse belonging to Dunst's assistant, Liat Baruch, which was also taken in the raid.

He broke into Kirsten Dunst's hotel room and stole her purse and assorted other items and now James Jimenez is going to jail.
The convicted thief was sentenced to four years behind bars for his part in the SoHo Grand hotel burglary back in 2007.
Jimenez’s partner Jarrod Beinerman pleaded guilty to his own charges back in 2008, and James claimed Jarrod was actually the one who did the stealing.
And as it turns out, Jimenez’s sentence was only a fraction of the seven year penalty prosecutors were seeking for the crime.

The trial against 36-year-old veteran car thief James Jimenez came to its conclusion today when Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Jill Konviser sentenced Jimenez to four years in jail for stealing Kirsten Dunst’s $2,000 Balenciaga handbag during a 2007 shoot at the Soho Grand Hotel. According to “The New York Post,” Jimenez failed to convince any jurors that he was “too dumb to be a crook” the second time at trial due to video footage of the crime, DNA evidence and eyewitness testimony from Dunst and others. “I thought it was just a building,” Jimenez told jurors. “I don’t know. I thought it was construction or something.” Jimenez’s trial goes back to 2009 and includes his arguing that he was accompanying a pot dealer to the set.

September 8, 2010: For all the burglars out there, if you really need to snatch someone’s purse, make sure you wear gloves. Recent news suggest that James Jimenez, the guy who was convicted for stealing Kirsten Dunst’s purse has been sentenced to four years in state prison. All the evidence, especially fingerprints from the recovered purse, was pointing towards Jimenez as he did not wear any gloves.
The purse snatcher was convicted by a jury in June 2007, although he kept denying the charges, his peers disagreed with him. The burglar had lifted the $2000 Balenciaga bag from Kirsten’s Soho.

If you had ever thought about messing with Kirsten Dunst (and really, who hasn’t?) this next story will change your mind right quick. Brooklyn auto mechanic James Jimenez was sentenced today to four years in prison after being convicted of stealing Kirsten Dunst’s designer purse out of her hotel room in 2007. Four years? Good lord, what was in that purse? Nuclear launch codes? Jimenez was found guilty in June of stealing the purse, as well as Brit actor Simon Pegg’s cell phone and assorted other items while the actors were in New York filming How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, leading us to believe that more people had their stuff stolen while filming that movie than actually saw it in theaters. There must be information we just don’t know about the case. Maybe the guilty party had a lot of prior arrests, or planned to use...

Not every burglar comes equipped with a scapegoat-ready bunch. Which is why all fingers involved in Kirsten Dunst's hotel room purse snatching wound up pointed at James Jimenez, who this morning was sentenced to four years in state prison. A jury convicted Jimenez back in June of the June 2007 indiscretion. While he maintains his innocence, 12 of his peers disagreed, finding him guilty of lifting the actress' $2,000 Balenciaga bag from her SoHo Grand suite, along with the cell phone of her How to Lose Friends and Alienate People then-costar Simon Pegg, and assorted other personal (and pricey) possessions. As it happens, the 36-year-old had leniency on his side in the courtroom this morning, as...

Mary Jane didn't need ?Spider-Man? for this one. A New York man was found guilty today of breaking into Kirsten Dunst's hotel room in August, 2007 and making off with a $2,000 designer handbag and other pricey belongings. The jury didn't buy James Jimenez's defense that he was just simply tagging along with a buddy and had nothing to do with the theft, and convicted him of burglary and criminal trespassing. It was Dunst's testimony—along with a lack of a decent defense—that helped put Jimenez away. Both the actress and Simon Pegg, who was shooting How To Lose Friends and Alienate People at the time of the handbag heist, took to the witness stand against Jimenez. It...

Kirsten Dunst has told a court in New York she doesn't "smoke pot" after the trial of a man accused of stealing her bag revealed marijuana was found in her assistant's purse. Star Trek actor Simon Pegg has testified against a man accused of stealing actress Kirsten Dunst's $2,000 (£1,300) purse from a hotel room.
James Jimenez is facing charges of felony burglary after allegedly raiding the star's suite at the SoHo Grand Hotel in Manhattan in 2007, while the actress was filming How to Lose Friends and Alienate People with Pegg and Megan Fox.
Pegg told the jury at Manhattan Supreme Court he had also been the victim of thieves and had lost his digital camera and iPod in the incident, after leaving them in what he thought was a safe penthouse suite.
He said, "We figured that the floor was secure because of the rigmarole it had taken to get up there."

After being accused of smoking marijuana by a drug dealer/thief that stole her purse last year, Kirsten Dunst is firing back.
At a re-trial, the “Spider Man” actress testified in court earlier today (June 1) that she does not smoke pot and that the purse snatcher, James Jimenez and his friend, Jarrod Beinerman were never invited to her suite.
Although Ms Dunst denied it, she did admit that her personal assistant was a pot smoker. "I know she smoked pot," Dunst, 28, said under questioning by the defense - even though the judge had ruled she didn't have to answer.
Bienerman pleaded guilty, while Jimenez's first trial ended with the jury deadlocked on two charges.
During the first trial, Jimenez's defense was that he was too dumb to realize his buddy was staging a burglary.

Kirsten Dunst's personal assistant has confirmed she was keeping marijuana in the hotel room where the actress' purse was snatched in 2007 - but insists the star had no knowledge of the drugs.

James Jimenez was convicted on a charge of criminal trespass in October but is facing a retrial at Manhattan Supreme Court after a jury last year failed to reach a verdict on charges of felony burglary.

Dunst's assistant Baruch has now admitted there was marijuana in her bag, which was taken along with Dunst's Balenciaga purse.
But she is adamant the actress was not aware of the stash, and she had no intention of sharing the drugs with her celebrity boss, according to the New York Daily News.
She told the court, "I had a little bit of marijuana in my bag. No one else smoked pot. I was planning on smoking it alone after we wrapped, after work."
And when defence attorney Robert Parker asked her, "You were going to smoke that with Ms. Dunst, right? Ms. Dunst knew you had the marijuana in your bag, correct?" Baruch replied, "No".

Parker said pot was found in an oversized Balenciago bag owned by Dunst’s assistant, Liat Baruch, which had been revealed at Jimenez’s first trial. He theorized that Beinerman must have.

Hollywoodnews.com: An attorney defending James Jimenez, the thief who broke into Kirsten Dunst’s SoHo Grand hotel suite in 2007, revealed a bit too much about the actress’s temporary domicile on Tuesday.
Apparently, Jimenez, who had snatched Dunst’s purse, broke into her room because there were drugs in the room. Jimenez was accompanying drug dealer Jarrod Beinerman who according to his attorney Robert Parker, “is a major New York drug dealer.”
According to the New York Daily News, Dunst wasn’t present in the Manhattan Supreme court, but her spokesman denied the actress’ connection to the drug dealers.
“That is completely false and clearly a desperate ploy by the attorney,” Stephen Huvane said.
Jimenez broke into the hotel room where Dunst and actor Simon Pegg were staying while they filmed “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.” Jimenez was unaware that his co-hort stole the actress’ $2,000 handbag and Pegg’s iPod and camera.
