- After graduating from Harvard Law School, he went to work at the New York City law firm of Donovan Leisure, which had it's Manhattan offices in 30 Rock, also the headquarters of NBC. While riding in the elevator one day, he ran into his college classmate James Downey, which lead to him becoming a staff writer for Late Night with David Letterman (1982), his first job in television, and which coincidentally paid more than his job as an attorney.
