A famous producer wanted The Beatles‘ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to catch listeners off guard. He discussed what he thought of the final song. In addition, he revealed what he thought of three of The Beatles as people.
What The Beatles’ producer thought of ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ on a technical level
George Martin was The Beatles’ regular producer. During a 1995 interview with The Christian Science Monitor, Martin recalled The Beatles introducing him to the music of American rockers such as Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Their music sounded different from the British music of the era because of the technology they used.
Martin was asked if he could recreate that American sound by importing foreign technology. “No, because it’s not just technology,” he opined. “It’s a combination of the type of song, the type of arrangement,...

[This story contains spoilers for “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?,” the season eight finale of Chicago Med.]
Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) has been chafing under newly profit-centered management of the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center since Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) took control of the hospital. The season eight finale of Chicago Med brought his frustration to a head, when Dayton insisted on going through with a surgery assisted by his Or 2.0 system, under protest by Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains).
The routine hernia surgery goes fine — no thanks to 2.0, which shows a complication that’s not there. Halstead admits to Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) that he manipulated 2.0 to produce a bad result — and protects Dr. Song (T.V. Carpio), who hacked the system — and hands in his resignation letter. “What are we going to do without you?” Goodwin asks him.
The law of unintended consequences, however, might catch up to the rest of the staff at Med: Dayton tells Goodwin that the botched public demonstration of 2.0 has wrecked him financially,...

The Beatles‘ “Dear Prudence” was inspired by the sister of a famous actor. During an interview, the real “Dear Prudence” said the song was important. On the other hand, she said it didn’t receive as much attention as other songs in the Fab Four’s discography.
Prudence Farrow, subject of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” | Bettmann / Contributor The subject of The Beatles’ ‘Dear Prudence’ 1st heard the song during a family game
A 2015 article from Rolling Stone says The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” was inspired by Prudence Farrow, sister of Mia Farrow. The Farrows were present during The Beatles’ trip to India and Prudence spent a lot of her time deep in meditation. John Lennon noticed her devotion to spirituality and wrote the song in response.
Prudence said her mother, actor Maureen O’Sullivan, introduced her to “Dear Prudence” during a “psychological” game her family used to play. She explained how the game worked.

T.V. Carpio, the actress who has appeared in shows such as Big Sky and The Client List, has joined the NBC medical drama Chicago Med in a recurring role. As reported by Deadline, Carpio will portray Dr. Grace Song, a new doctor hired by Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz), and is set to shake things up when the show returns in 2023. The casting comes following several cast departures, including Brian Tee, Asjha Cooper, Sarah Rafferty, Kristen Hager, and Guy Lockard. Carpio’s Dr. Song is likely to be one of many changes for the popular medical series. This season’s fall finale saw Roiz’s Jack purchase a controlling interest in Gaffney Medical Group, which suggests he will be setting up his own team as he rebuilds the hospital in his image. Chicago Med, created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, launched in 2015 and premiered its eighth season on September 21, 2022. It...

Exclusive: T.V. Carpio (Big Sky) has joined the cast of NBC’s Chicago Med in a recurring role, Deadline hears. She will portray Dr. Grace Song, a new doctor hired by Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) who will shake things up when the show returns in the spring.
Grace’s hiring comes as no surprise following the news that Jack bought controlling interest in Gaffney Medical Group in the fall finale—building up his own team is par for the course. If Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) reaction to the news of Jack’s come-up is any indication of what’s to come, however, it’s more than likely the addition of Grace won’t be the only change ahead for the hospital.
Carpio’s casting follows multiple cast exits including Brian Tee, Asjha Cooper, Sarah Rafferty, Kristen Hager, and Guy Lockard.

This comes after The CW announced they would be picking up "Arrow" based on the DC comic book series Green Arrow, in which Cassidy stars as Dinah Lance, who later becomes Black Canary.
In other Scribbler news, Richard Riehle (Office Space), Brad Culver (Growth), Luke Barnett (Sedona) and an English bulldog named Sir Hollywood have all been seen on set playing supporting roles. This adds to an already impressive ensemble cast that includes Cassidy, Michelle Trachenberg ("Buffy"), Garret Dillahunt (No Country for Old Men), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Michael Imperioli ("The Sopranos"), Eliza Dushku ("Dollhouse"), Billy Campbell ("The Killing"), Kunal Nayyar ("Big...

Which identity is the real you? For Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku, this concept is all too familiar. Dushku joins fellow Buffy veteran Michelle Trachtenberg on the cast of the big screen adaptation of the comic book, The Scribbler, published by Image Comics and written by Daniel Schaffer.
Deadline reports that Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Taken) , picture center above, has signed on to topline in the film about “Suki, a young woman confronting her destructive mental illness using “The Siamese Burn,” an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. The closer Suki comes to being “cured,” she’s haunted by a thought… what if the last unwanted identity turns out to be her?”

Star Trek 2 hits theaters on May 17, 2013. [source] Roman Polanski will direct D as his next project. Written by Robert Harris, the film centers on Captain Alfred Dreyfus, one of the few Jewish officers on the General Staff of the French Army, who in December 1894 was subjected to a secret court martial for passing secrets to the Germans. Found guilty, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to Devil's Island. The independently financed film will begin casting shortly and currently plans to be in production in Paris by the end of this year. Lionsgate/Summit International will represent the film's international sales.

Filming on Dan Schaffer’s graphic novel The Scribbler begins later this week in Los Angeles for a live action theatrical film release.
Schaffer’s graphic novel was originally published in 2006 by Image Comics. A new “director’s cut” of the graphic novel is being prepared by the recently re-launched First Comics™ for release in conjunction with the film’s opening. Schaffer penned the screenplay adapted from his graphic novel.
The thriller centers on Suki, a young woman confined in a mental institution and being treated with an experimental machine dubbed “The Siamese Burn, designed to eliminate multiple personalities. As the “treatment” progresses, Suki starts to be haunted by the realization that if “The Siamese Burn” is successful, which one of her personalities will be the survivor?

"Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark" is not as awful as one is led to believe. It's not awful at all.
It's just not good.
"Spider-Man" is a spectacle, and visually arresting. And therein is the $75 million question: Is it worthy of Broadway if the musical has no show-stoppers, not one great song despite Bono and The Edge, such insipid dancing it's forgotten immediately and a script that neither has dramatic tension nor funny lines?
Sadly, the answer is yes. It's worth it if people are willing to pay for it. This could have a long run judging by the school buses lining up on 42nd Street on the show's official third night Thursday (June 16). Given the name recognition, the unending hype and that everyone knows Spider-Man, it's a fair bet this could go indefinitely.
The show begins with incredible energy, fueled by school kids thrilled to be at The Foxwoods Theatre on a Thursday night.

Despite some positive reviews, epically troubled musical remains as divisive as ever.

We're as surprised as anyone that the folks behind have been able to transform their epically troubled musical into a satisfying piece of Broadway entertainment. In January, as news of the show's creative and safety issues turned the then $65 million production into one of the Great White Way's most spectacular disasters, we admitted that while there were some enjoyable aspects, you were better off popping in a DVD of a Tobey Maguire "Spider-Man" flick than trekking to New York to see the musical.
What a difference a few months — and a new creative team — makes. Out went Julie Taymor, in came writers like comics vet Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and the results are just what the web-slinging wonderboy needed. We're not the only ones who feel that way.

Okay, I'll admit it: A few months ago I wouldn't even have entertained the idea of seeing "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" multiple times, let alone recommend that you see it. Back in January, when we published a list of five things we liked about the show and five things we hated, we had trouble coming up with enough items for the former, and had even more trouble narrowing down our list of the latter.
Since then, the budget-busting Broadway show has undergone a massive overhaul, with former director Julie Taymor departing the production, and an entirely new set of writers — including comics scribe Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa — brought on to rework the script.
With the show finally ending its record-breaking run of preview performances next week and marking its official Broadway debut, I found myself in the audience a second time to find out whether "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" had...

Besides kicking off the summer-movie season – fun fact time -- May is also Asian-American and Pacific-Islander Heritage Month in the United States.
Asians have traditionally been the least-represented ethnic group in Hollywood, whether on television or films. But we've come a long way since David Carradine squinted through "Kung Fu," or the embarrassing stereotypes of houseboys, geishas, and Long Duk Dong (damn you, black eye on "Sixteen Candles"). Today, Asians on primetime and multiplexes are sexy, funny, and taking on leading roles.
We're celebrating the month by profiling 10 young and talented Asian (which we expanded to include a couple of South Asian performers) rising stars.
Brenda Song
A child model of Hmong heritage, Song landed a lucrative Disney contract at age 14. The Mouse House cast her in supporting roles in its made-for-tv movies and as the air-headish hotel heiress in the popular tween series "The Suite Life" and its spinoff "The Suite Deck,...

Greta Gerwig is not your typical romantic comedy lead. She's far too natural, earthy and relatable.
The 27-year-old is one of many reasons why the Russell Brand-starring remake "Arthur" is primed to charm moviegoers: As Naomi, the tour guide Arthur's loaded playboy falls for, it's amazing just how much more attractive the option she becomes over the more traditional Tinseltown star/adversary Jennifer Garner.
The ascent to Hollywood leading lady has been swift for Gerwig, who only three years ago was acting in micro-budgeted "mumblecore" films. She first garnered widespread acclaim opposite Ben Stiller in last year's indie dramedy "Greenberg," and got her rom-com feet wet with a supporting turn in January's "No Strings Attached."
It's far too easy to look for comparisons when trying to describe Gerwig's physical appeal – in fact the majority of comments on her IMDb message board begin with "Looks like…" Naturally, we asked...

HollywoodNews.com: “Spider Man: Turn off the Dark” is now using understudies instead of its leads for regular performances. Two sources tell me that an announcement was made to the cast and crew that Reeve Carney, who plays Peter Parker, Jennifer Damiano (Mary Jane), and Patrick Page (Green Goblin) are all out of the main performances for the next two weeks. The reason is they’re rehearsing new material on dawn til dusk.
The good news might be that audiences will see Matthew James Thomas as Peter Parker. He’s very good. What’s unclear is how this affects the character of Arachne, played by T.V. Carpio. She’s been out because of an injury. Her understudy, America Olivo, has been playing Arachne. Who is rehearsing Arachne’s new material is a big question. The “Geek Chorus” in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has reportedly been cut from the show, according to the New York Times. The four-person group — modeled after the chorus in classical Greek drama — consisted of three comic geeks and a young woman who explained plot points in the musical. The chorus was widely panned by critics, leading some to predict its removal after the departure of ex-director Julie Taymor earlier this month. “The production will not comment on any substantive changes to the show,” said spokesperson Rick Miramontez in a statement.

Your friendly neighborhood MTV Splash Page editor was in attendance at a performance of "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" last night, and while there were a few technical glitches that stalled the show, there didn't appear to be any on-stage injuries during the production. The same cannot be said of a performance last week, however, that put actress T.V. Carpio out of commission for two weeks.
Carpio, who plays the eight-legged, goddess-like Arachne in the musical, suffered the undisclosed injury during a March 16 preview performance, according to The New York Times. The report indicates that the injury occurred during a fight scene with actor Matthew James Thomas, who replaced Reeve Carney as Peter Parker for that night's performance.
Carpio has been replaced by America Olivo as the show's Arachne, and played the role during last night's performance, which featured a high-flying, wire-assisted brawl between Spider-Man and Arachne in Act II...

Beleaguered Broadway musical Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark has been marred by another accident - actress T.V. Carpio has temporarily bowed out of the production after an onstage mishap.
Across The Universe star Carpio replaced injured Natalie Mendoza as villainess Arachne in the musical earlier this year, but now she's had to take leave too.
Carpio was hurt during a stunt last week (ends20Mar11) and has abandoned the role to allow herself time to recover.
In a statement, spokesperson Rick Miramontez says, "T.V. Carpio sustained an injury on Wednesday, March 16 during an onstage battle scene with a fellow actor. On doctor's orders, she will be out of the show for the next two weeks."
BroadwayWorld.com reports Carpio is nursing a whiplash injury.
Actress America Olivo is now taking over the role until Carpio's return.
The show, which will temporarily close in April so producers can overhaul it before its official launch in June, has been plagued with onset accidents. Four other castmembers - including Mendoza - have been left injured after incidents in rehearsals and preview performances.
