Everything Everywhere All at Once swept the Dorian Film Awards, the winners of which were announced on Thursday morning by Galeca, the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.
The A24 film picked up seven awards including film of the year. Writer-director duo the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) earned both the best director and best original screenplay prizes, while Michelle Yeoh won best performance and co-star Ke Huy Quan won best supporting performance. The film was also honored with awards for visually striking film of the year and LGBTQ film of the year.
Everything Everywhere star Yeoh also earned a second honor with Wilde Artist of the Year. Baz Luhrmann's remixed version of the life and times of Elvis Presley feels like the exuberant director's version of a comic book movie (an opinion /Film's Rafael Motamayor agreed with in his review). "Elvis" has garnered a whopping eight Oscar nominations this year and the jam-packed soundtrack was also Grammy nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack. The 2022 film "Elvis" continues to receive accolades, having recently been nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for star Austin Butler. The story of Elvis Presley was directed and co-written by Baz Luhrmann, focusing on the life of the iconic performer, of course, and his nefarious manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks. But there are so many moments where actors with smaller parts shine. Olivia DeJonge is a standout as Priscilla Presley, despite not having a ton of screen time. Yola's work as Sister Rosetta Tharpe made me want to pause and rewind fairly consistently.

A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once scored nine nominations and Focus Features’ Tár followed with seven to lead the way Thursday in film noms for the 14th annual Dorian Awards, bestowed by Galeca: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.
The group, which honors the best of film and TV from mainstream to Lgbtqia+-focused fare, also nominated Searchlight’s The Banshees of Inisherin and another A24 pic, Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, five times each.

While Austin Butler’s performance in Baz Lurhmann’s “Elvis” is visually captivating, the music experience is immersive. The film needs to be seen, but it demands to be heard.
Composer Elliott Wheeler worked closely with music editor Jamieson Shaw, as the film dances between Butler’s vocals, Elvis Presley’s voice and newly recorded versions of the King’s classics like Kacey Musgraves’ rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
Wheeler says Butler recorded every single line of each performance seen in the film, and Presley’s voice was then mixed in when needed. Wheeler explains, “If we did end up using Elvis takes, we ended up slicing [parts of] Austin’s performance. We used a lot of the breaths, grunts and body movements that are Austin, and we’d switch back to Elvis.”

Baz and I started working together on The Great Gatsby, and then we did the live musical version of Strictly Ballroom. After that finished I moved over to the States to set up there. Sia has written songs for the upcoming Strictly Ballroom musical.
Director Baz Luhrmann and co-writer Craig Pearce have announced the composers for the stage project, based on the former's 1992 movie.
Grammy-winning songwriters and Oscar nominees Diane Warren and David Foster have contributed songs for the show too.
The Great Gatsby composer Elliott Wheeler and singer-songwriter Eddie Perfect have also been enlisted by Luhrmann.
As with the original film, the musical will follow a ballroom dancer who partners with an untrained amateur for a difficult routine in his quest for glory.
The musical will also include songs associated with the film, including 'Love Is in the Air', 'Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps' and 'Time After Time'.
Luhrmann's wife and Oscar winner Catherine Martin will work on the set and costume designs.

Baz Luhrmann and co-writer Craig Pearce have announced the team of composers contributing songs to their upcoming stage venture, Strictly Ballroom: The Musical. Grammy-winning Songwriters Hall of Famers and multiple Oscar nominees Diane Warren and David Foster have penned tunes for the show, as has Australian singer-songwriter Sia Furler, better known by her recording moniker Sia. Antony Partos and Sonar Music, the team behind the music of The Slap have led the nominees for the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, announced this morning while Burning Man, Storm Surfers 3D, Santa’s Apprentice and Needle are the four nominees for feature film score.

Jed Kurzel won the best feature film score of the year at the 2011 Screen Music Awards last night.
Kurzel won for his score of psychological thriller Snowtown.
Kurzel is the member of Sydney band The Mess Hall and also brother of Snowtown director Justin Kurzel.
The ceremony recognises excellence in screen music and is run by the Australian Guild of Screen Composers.
Held at the Sydney City Recital Hall, and hosted by Non Hazlehurst, guests included Claudia Karvan, Sigrid Thornton, Steve Bisley, Sarah Blasko, Paul Capsis and Nelson Woss.
Paul Capsis and Christa Hughes performed songs from Paper Giants: The birth of Cleo and Sarah Blasko Miles Nicholas’ Dream On, which won best original song composed for the screen.

The Opera House is hugely recognisable – but there are literally millions of people who visit it each year, who have never been to an actual performance there,” says Caroline David, producer of the Ship Song Project. Based upon Nick Cave’s “The Ship Song”, it is an online campaign that invited Australian and international musicians to pay homage to the theatre.
