- Jan Fredrik Karlsen was born on June 17, 1973 in Oslo, Norway. He is an actor and director, known for Kompani Karlsen (2013), Helt perfekt (2011) and Melodi Grand Prix 2016 (2016).

- In January 2004 the music journalists in Norway's second largest newspaper (Dagbladet) voted him the most powerful man in the Norwegian music industry (he was 30 at the time).
- Has worked in the Norwegian music industry since his late teens. Already as a student he worked for popular Norwegian comedians/singer/songwriters Herodes Falsk and Tom Mathisen. From there he worked his way up and finally ending up as manager for artists like MTV Europe Music Awards winner Lene Marlin and Sissel Kyrkjebø (the voice on the "Titanic" soundtrack), before becoming the much-publicised main judge for the Norwegian version of "Idol".
- Has one son, William, born in 2001.
- Is a huge fan of the TV series "Frasier".
- Daughter Felicia, born June 2005, with actress Janne Formoe.
