Independent filmmakers Sergey Sarkisov and Nick Sarkisov have launched Blitz Films as a finance and production company, Variety has learned exclusively.
The first project the company is producing and financing is “Heart of a Champion,” a martial arts story written by David McKenna (“American History X”). Produced in association with Straight Up Films, the film follows a high school judo prodigy who steps into the Ultimate Fighting Championship cage to face the ultimate rival in a battle for recognition and retribution –- his father.
Blitz, which made the announcement Wednesday, will specialize in “responsibly-budgeted” indie fare along with a wide variety of genre projects. Producer Eryl Cochran has signed on as head of production and development for Blitz and will work out of the company’s Los Angeles office.

Just in time for Halloween, the Lost Boys franchise continues with the latest direct-to-video sequel Lost Boys: The Thirst, which follows after The Lost Boys (1987) and Lost Boys: The Tribe (2008). It is directed by Dario Piana and the script is written by Evan Charnov and Hans Rodionoff. The latest drug craze is Thirst, a mixture of Ecstasy and vampire blood. In 1987 the horror genre was dominated by the slasher fad of that decade. Zombies were mostly something seen only in Italian gorefests with the name Fulci attached. Ghosts and supernatural films were few and far between. Vampires ... well, vampires had been neutered and reduced to whiny flouncy boys by the likes of Anne Rice.
Seemingly out of nowhere came a film that introduced a young audience to a new, hip breed of bloodsucker in The Lost Boys. These vamps, while retaining the inherent sexiness of Rice’s Louis and Lestat, were, by their actions, a callback to the more vicious creatures made popular by the likes of people like Christopher Lee. The Lost Boys was nothing short of a cultural phenomenon and a film that served as a touchstone for the zeitgeist of the time.

Corey Feldman (and his hair) has been a familiar face in my city before. Seeing him always made me chuckle because I could smell the desperation from a mile away. I don’t generally make it a habit to pick on celebrities–it’s too easy, but Feldman’s new Lost Boys: The Thirst photos featured on Arrow in the Head made me feel kind of bad for the aging D-list celebrity. The Thirst is currently filming in South Africa with Dario Piana directing a script by Evan Charnov. Corey Feldman returns as Edgar Frog, now a veteran vampire-hunter and surfboard shaper. Corey Feldman will once again reprise the role of "Edgar Frog" along with Jamison Newlander (as "Allen Frog"). You can also see the smoking hot Tanit Phoenix with creepy Felix Mosse (blond-haired dude) and Seb Castang (in the Alice Cooper shirt).

Long before vampires glittered (Twilight) or were battling werewolves (Underworld) they were hanging out in backwater towns and convincing teenagers they were eating maggots instead of noodles (Don’t worry, it was kind of like the vampire version of a Jedi mind trick). For those who don’t get the reference, I’m speaking of vampire cult film The Lost Boys.
It’s been more then twenty years since The Lost Boys came out and to give you an idea of how different vampires were back then, here’s the tag line from the original film: “Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It’s fun to be a vampire”. Yes, being a vampire was “fun”, especially when the only real threat was a couple of comic book geeks who claimed to be vampire hunters.

Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively this morning that Dario Piana, director of The Deaths of Ian Stone, is getting behind the camera for Warner Premiere's Lost Boys 3: The Thirst, which was scripted by Evan Charnov. Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are said to return at the Frog brothers, although I could only confirm Feldman's involvement. Here's the exclusive plot crunch: "When veteran vampire hunter Edgar Frog finds himself destitute and almost friendless, he thinks his live has hit bottom - but wealthy vampire-romance novelist Gwen Liebling offers him a small fortune to go on the vampire hunt of a lifetime and rescue her son Peter from the Alpha Vampire D.J.Dusk. Warner Premiere is moving forward on Lost Boys 3: The Bite (although we suspect they'll drop the number 3). According to Production Weekly, Evan Charnov scripted the threequel. He penned Fearless , a TV vehicle for Rachel Leigh Cook in 2004. In the director's chair is Dario Piana who helmed the After Dark Horrorfest 2 entry The Deaths of Ian Stone (pictured) - a film that demonstrated promise but was bogged down by script problems. While Pw doesn't offer any plot details, it does reiterate what we've heard in the past: Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are back to reprise their roles as the Frog Brothers. Both appeared in the 2008 direct-to-dvd misfire Lost Boys: The Tribe . Filming will take place in Capetown, South Africa.

Recall the stinker that was The Lost Boys: The Tribe (review here)? You remember -- the flick with the surfing vampires? (Again we ask: Why didn't the priest just bless the ocean?) No? You missed it? Do yourself a favor and keep it that way. Like it or not, Production Weekly has announced tonight that the next film in the franchise, now called Lost Boys 3: The Thirst, is just about ready to get under way from Warner Premiere.
All that's known about the film, which has been scripted by Evan Charnov, is that both Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are returning to their roles as The Frog Brothers. Being that Newlander is now a vamp and Feldman is still a hunter, this could make for an interesting dynamic between the two. Interesting, yes, but will it be good?

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Evan Charnov (Fearless) has been hired by Warner Premiere to write the third installment in "The Lost Boys" franchise. The new film will obviously go straight to DVD, just like the incredibly successful sequel did last year. Corey Feldman will return to produce "The Lost Boys 3" in addition to reprising his role as vampire hunter Edgar Frog. Moviehole has added that Jamison Newlander will also return as Alan Frog in the threequel that will focus on the Frog brothers. Newlander appeared in the 1987 original, directed by Joel Schumacher, but was edited out of the sequel. And even though the second movie hinted at a possible battle between Edgar Frog and Sam Emerson (Corey Haim), Haim isn't expected to return for "Lost Boys 3."...

I still have yet to see The Lost Boys: The Tribe, the 20-years-too-late direct-to-dvd sequel to Joel Schumacher's 1987 cult classic, and based on all the dismal reviews that I've heard and read, I am certainly in no hurry. Still, it appears that the movie was at least somewhat successful since it's being reported around the web that Warner Premiere is currently in the process of developing a third installment. They have hired a guy named Evan Charnov (Fearless) to start writing a script for The Lost Boys 3, which will focus specifically on Corey Feldman's character Edgar Frog. As you would expect, Feldman is signed to star, but this time around he will apparently also act as executive producer. Good to hear that the Feldog is moving up in the world. Jamison Newlander is also supposedly attached to reprise his role as the other half of the Frog Brothers,...

Fine, I'll admit it: I sat down and watched the craptastic sequel to Lost Boys, The Tribe. Lord knows I wish I hadn't, but it was the film equivalent of a train wreck and it was just too hard to look away. But even I have my limits, so I'm not sure what to think about the latest bad idea from Warner Premiere: Lost Boys 3. Bloody Disgusting announced that Warners has given the go-ahead for another direct-to-dvd sequel, and have hired Evan Charnov (Fearless) to pen the script.
According to Bd, Edgar Frog (aka Corey Feldman) will be back, along with the lesser known Frog, Jamison Newlander. Inevitable? You betcha. After the success of Lost Boys: The Tribe , Warner Premiere is moving forward on a Lost Boys 3 (which will probably also drop the "number" and gain a subtitle instead). Meanwhile, Bloody-Disgusting says writer Evan Charnov has been attached to pen the third installment. Charnov's only credit is the 2004 Rachael Leigh Cook television thriller Fearless . If a writer is just now coming aboard, shooting may begin this fall for a 2010 DVD release. No word yet on a director.

I still have Lost Boys: The Tribe resting in my Netflix Instant Queue and now Bloody-Disgusting is saying Lost Boys 3 has a writer and Corey Feldman has come on to executive produce and will also return once again as Edgar Frog. On top of that Moviehole reports Jamison Newlander has also been cast and will return as Alan Frog. Newlander had been cast in The Tribe, but his scenes were apparently cut which means this will mark the official Frog brothers reunion. Evan Charnov (''Fearless'') has been hired to write the new film for the Warner Premiere direct-to-dvd feature. Bloody-Disgusting adds Corey Haim's return as Sam Emerson "is highly, highly unlikely at this point in time" and the new film will focus on Feldman's character.
