Like Creepy said when he wrote up the recent news story about Richard Lewis joining the cast of Amy Heckerling's horror comedy Vamps, a lot of us prefer our genre fare to stick to the serious side, but considering Heckerling's track record, I'm willing to give Vamps a shot. Actress Kristen Johnston (Third Rock from the Sun) has joined the cast of writer/director Amy Heckerling’s new feature film Vamps.
Comedy director Heckerling, best known for the 1990's awesome teenage Alicia Silverstone flick Clueless, is in preproduction on this new horror comedy. Screen Daily reports that Silverstone and Heckerling will work in a sub-genre that shall become stale once the Twilight series is over and done with. Silverstone will join the well cast Krysten Ritter in Vamps - a modern-day tale of two female vampires who live it up in New York until love enters the picture, when each has to make a choice that will jeopardise their immortality. - You can be forgiven if you feel that you've lost track of the Clueless pairing Alicia Silverstone and Amy Heckerling. They were once at the top of the film world, the year was 1995 and then both filmographies would eventually include television work (here's a retro Charlie Rose clip of Heckerling). The filmmaker tried a comeback, not to long ago -- but got screwed over by the distribution company in charge of 2007's I Could Never Be Your Woman. Screen Daily...

Yes, she's coming back! ScreenDaily (via SlashFilm) is reporting that Alicia Silverstone will be reuniting with Clueless director Amy Heckerling for her upcoming vampire love movie Vamps. The project was first announced last November, described as a "romantic comedy with vampires." The script, by Heckerling, focuses on two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality. From the director of Clueless? Sounds fun! And with the star of Clueless, too? Even better! I already like this more than Diablo Cody's Sweet Valley High. Silverstone will play one of the vampires opposite Krysten Ritter (last seen in "Breaking Bad" and "Woke Up Dead"), who is making her first feature starring role. Production is set to begin in April. Red Hour Films, Lucky Monkey Pictures partners Lauren Versel and Maria Teresa Arida,...

New York -- Andy Fleming will helm adoption comedy "The Land of Enchantment" and Bruce Beresford will direct South African post-apartheid drama "The House Gun" for Lucky Monkey Pictures, an emerging indie banner that's ramping up its slate.
"Enchantment," set and shot in Santa Fe -- the title refers to New Mexico's slogan -- revolves around a boy adopted by an elderly gay couple who live a high-flying lifestyle and the comedic conflict that ensues. Fleming most recently directed Sundance hit "Hamlet 2" and Warner Bros.' big-screen take on Nancy Drew.
"Gun" is based on Nadine Gordimer's 1998 novel about a privileged white family forced to confront its beliefs when the son is arrested for a grisly murder. Beresford is best known for helming best-picture Oscar winner "Driving Miss Daisy."
The company also will produce a thriller, "The Trespassers," with Steven Soderbergh collaborator Laura Bickford.
