SpongeBob SquarePants is bringing the 20th anniversary party down to San Diego Comic-Con with two panels, a theme-series booth on the floor, as well as daily activities.
Still Tbd whether Paramount will be showing footage down there from its upcoming animated feature The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, but it wouldn’t be a shocker. The movie opens on May 22, 2020.
The “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout” panel will take a deep dive into the series with co-executive producers Vincent Waller and Marc Ceccarelli and voice actors Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Carolyn Lawrence(Sandy), Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) and Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) as they talk about what it’s been like to portray their characters in front of the camera for the first time in this live action-animation hybrid special.

SpongeBob SquarePants’s 20th anniversary will be the center of Nickelodeon’s grandiose Comic-Con presence this year.
SpongeBob SquarePants is turning 20 soon; a fact that Nickelodeon has spent much of the year reminding the world in celebratory jubilance. Besides the July 20 special, SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout!, the diminutive dweller of a pineapple under the sea has lined up another movie, a confirmed prequel series and even possible spinoffs. However, San Diego Comic-Con will be the backdrop for a more ephemeral experience to celebrate said birthday, with Nickelodeon promising a party unlike anything else for convention attendees.
Nickelodeon is transforming the floor of Comic-Con into SpongeBob’s undersea hamlet home, Bikini Bottom! – Well, 1800 square feet of said floor, anyway. Indeed, Comic-Con International: San Diego July 18-21, 2019 will see the channel – in addition to an array of meet-and-greets, signings and giveaways – host an interactive experience for its...

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Nickelodeon Animation Studio and their new Entertainment Lab in Burbank, CA. I chatted with Chris Young, Senior Vice President for the Entertainment Lab; Chris Savino, creator of The Loud House; and Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz, creator of Shimmer and Shine. I played around in their newly developed immersive and interactive Vr experience; sat in on a recording session for Shimmer and Shine; stopped in to say hi to Ciro Nieli, executive producer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and see his cool office; and viewed all kinds of creativity in progress during the studio tour.
And let me tell you: the experience was awesome.
As in, so awesome, I’m wondering how Alternate Me could get a job there. Because let’s be honest – there are office jobs that look like The Office, and then there are workplaces like Nickelodeon, which has slime stairs, a SpongeBob wall,...

As season 5 of Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles airs in the UK, Matt salutes the terrific penultimate run...
Earlier this year Nickelodeon announced that they would be launching a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon in 2018. Normally, this would be good news. However, in this instance, it served as confirmation that the current cartoon, the 2012 computer animated series we’ve come to refer to as 'Nick Turtles', would be finishing with its fifth season. And as much as we’re excited for a fresh take on the material, this current version is one of the best takes on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to date.

Why the writers credited on a movie are rarely the only ones who put the screenplay together....
The Wizard Of Oz, since its initial release in 1939, has richly deserved its long-cemented status as an all-time classic. A regular resident in the IMDb top 250 films of all time, and a part of many people’s DVD collection, it’s a film that I’d wager more and more people fall in love with each year. Long may that continue.

We chatted to composer Sebastian Evans about scoring Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
If you’re a regular reader of this site, you’ll be well aware that Den of Geek are huge fans of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So when we were approached about speaking to Sebastian Evans, the composer of the show, we were thrilled. Not only would we be able to gain some insight into an under-investigated area of television making, but we’d get to talk about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The music on the show is great (you’ll find us calling for a release of the show's score towards the bottom of this article), so this felt like a particularly exciting opportunity).

Mondo recently announced a Nickelodeon-themed gallery art show that they are putting on called A Nick-Nick-Nick-Nick-n-Nick-Nick-Nick... Nickelodeon Show! and they've released a couple of posters inspired by their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. They were created by Ciro Nieli, who is a producer and director on the show, and as you can see they have a very unique style to them. They have a very sketchy feel to them and they are filled with notes, which is actually kinda cool. The first poster features Casey Jones and the second is of Metalhead, who is a fifth robot Ninja Turtle created by Donatello.
I also included a few other pieces that they teased featuring Ren & Stimpy by Florian Bertmer, Tmnt by Sachin Teng, and Rocko's Modern Life by Dave Perillo. The art show takes place from December 9th to the 17th at Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas.

For its final show of the year, the Mondo Gallery will present “A-Nick-Nick-Nick-Nick-n-Nick-Nick-Nick Nickelodeon Show.” As impressive as the posters on display — two of which, Sachin Teng’s “Tmnt” print and Janice Chu’s new art for “SpongeBob SquarePants,” have been shared exclusively with IndieWire (below) — is the fact that they actually got the correct number of “Nicks” from that famous ’90s jingle. The show begins this Friday, December 9 and runs until the 17th.

New York Comic Con has once again rushed by in a giant, fun, crazy blur, and although I didn’t get to nearly all the things I was hoping to, I did have a rockin’ time and see some really cool things I can share.
The first of these were a few great panels I landed seats for, including, as is my tradition, the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel. If you don’t know I love the current Tmnt, then what are you, new here? But seriously, I love it. And each panel I have gone to brings something new and different.
This panel (with Andrea Romano (voice director), Eric Bauza (Tiger Claw), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Shredder), Greg Cipes (Mikey), Rob Paulsen (Donnie), and Ciro Nieli (Executive Producer)) was particularly fun, because one of the things they did was a live read of episode #420, “The Super Shredder,” which...

Time flies, doesn’t it? As you undoubtedly know, San Diego’s Comic-Con International happened this past weekend, and I was fortunate to be amongst the tens of thousands of attendees. There was, as always, a mega-ton to see and do, and it was hard to keep the Fomo (Fear Of Missing Out) from getting completely out of control over the 4.5 days of the con. To stay sane, though, at some point you just have to accept that you’re going to miss a bunch, and focus on what you do have the opportunity to see.

In 2016, there are three main running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continuities. There’s the film series, which I like, the comic book series, which I love, and the Nickelodeon cartoon series, which is my favourite.
I’ve written a lot of articles about the show because I think it’s excellent. I’d argue that it’s the best new take on the Turtles since the 1990 live-action film. It takes a lot of what I love about the Ninja Turtles and runs it through a filter of weird horror films and odd sci-fi. Then they add their own elements too, shaping it into this this sharp, funny lovely little oddball of a show.

So if you haven’t noticed, the Thursday of New York Comic Con has kiiiiiind of turned into “Turtles Day” for me, in the sense that Nickelodeon does their press and events for the current animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show on that Thursday, and since I love Turtles and the current show, that’s where I’m at each year for whatever they offer.

They dished about everything from the upcoming season to whether Raph and Mona Lisa are really going to maybe have babies in, like, Season 6 or something (heh). The current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series continues to be a favorite of mine. It strikes the right balance between being a goofy, fun cartoon about a bunch of lovable characters and addressing more serious and dark themes about power and responsibility. It also does well at adding new ideas, characters, and material while including homages to previous incarnations of Tmnt and staying true to the foundations of the overall series. The art is pretty cool and unique; and of course, the voice talent and creative team are stellar.
The series is now in Season 3 (and already renewed for a fourth season!) and has taken on a slightly different focus, with the Turtles leaving the familiar NYC cityscape for other territory. A short while ago I got to sit down at the Times Square Toys “R” Us (a super-cool store with a Ferris wheel and other nifty things inside...

As promised in my New York Comic Con round-up last week, this week I bring to you the awesome chats I had there with executive producer Ciro Nieli and Michelangelo voice actor Greg Cipes of the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series on Nickelodeon (and if you missed it before, I’ve previously interviewed the spectacular Rob Paulsen, voice of Donatello). Ciro and Greg were both absolutely delightful to speak with, and shared some great insights on the show.
If you haven’t given the current Tmnt a shot yet (maybe because you were loyal to the original; or you’ve never watched Tmnt before; or you’re an adult so why would you be watching a kids’ show…) you are totally missing out. I’m a fan of the original series (having watched from the very first episode at the age of maybe six or seven), and until this series,...

I love visiting New York City, and New York Comic Con is one of my favorite shows. I always have a great time, and this year was no exception. One other thing that remains consistent every year I go is that it all goes by in a total whirlwind blur, and I can barely remember all the things I saw and did, or when they occurred.
But for you, my faithful readers who may not have been able to attend, I’ll try to remember some of the best parts of the weekend, and, as Inigo Montoya would say, “sum up.” So here we go! In no particular order, some of the coolest experiences I had in NYC:
I saw First Date, the Broadway musical starring Zachary Levi, and it was fantastic. I also interviewed Zac at The Nerd Machine booth during the con – so stay tuned for my review...

Whether you remember the gritty comic series, the smash-hit '80s cartoon or the spinoff movie franchise, you've probably heard of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo - the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
With new episodes of the franchise's latest iteration - animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - airing on Saturdays at 9.30am on Nickelodeon, Digital Spy has an exclusive interview with Tmnt co-creator Kevin Eastman.
How did you invent the idea to create this animated cartoon?
"It started very late at night as a joke in a studio we were sharing. I did a sketch of what I told Peter would be the 'Next Big Thing – a Ninja Turtle!'. As we talked about and developed the idea during the evening, we ended up with one final drawing of all four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and we thought it was very funny, so the next day we started writing the story,...

The Young and the Restless tallied 23 nominations as honors were announced this morning for the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Restless’ impressive take helped CBS lead all networks with 50 overall nominations. PBS and ABC followed, with 44 and 38 nods, respectively.
General Hospital, which earned 19 nominations, joined Restless in the race for Outstanding Drama Series, and Sesame Street received 17 nods, including three for Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
Good Morning America and Today will bring their ratings rivalry to the Emmys, where they’ll be joined by CBS Sunday Morning in the Outstanding Morning Program category.

So, ComicMix readers, as per my previous column, Awesome Con DC happened April 20 and 21…and, I say this unironically, it was awesome. I had a blast. I spent time with good friends; I met new friends; I walked the con floor and met comics legends (great chat, Larry Hama!) and witty and charming award-winning artists (hello, Ben Templesmith!); and was delighted with the strong turnout of talented local comics folks. I went to a couple of panels (amazing, for me, since I usually plan to go to tons and then don’t go to…any); and wore my Girl Jayne Firefly costume. And yes, naturally, I bought some stuff (surprise!). I also pretended to be Nick Galifianakis for awhile (don’t tell!) and did three fantaaaastic interviews: with Nick, and with the amazingly talented Phil Lamarr and Billy West. (More convention pictures here, and oh by the way, next year...

Looks like my wish for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise to get a video game reboot is coming true. Nickelodeon and Activision have announced they're partnering together for an exclusive multi-year deal to create video games based on the new Tmnt cartoon show. The best news, the first game will be coming this Summer.
I've been dying for a new Tmnt game for a while now. I love the franchise and think there's plenty of potential within the Ninja Turtle universe for great gaming experiences. Sadly, most of the recent games haven't delivered on that potential. With a new TV show being a massive success (for good reason too), I figured/hoped that new video games wouldn't be too far behind. Turns out I was right! Here's the press release with the info:

We respect this passion and look forward to working with Nickelodeon to create games that embody the spirit of the property.”
In total, Activision has agreed to develop three games based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. The first game is expected to be released this Summer, with the following two games to be spread out over the course of the “multi-year” deal. I really don't put much stock in the International Animated Film Society's 2013 Annie Awards, which is why I didn't rush to report on their results on Saturday. One year Disney and Pixar boycott the event, feeling there was an unfair advantage paid to larger contributing sponsors, DreamWorks being the primary example. So with such a nasty stench over the event what good does it do to pay it much mind? That said, I'll be brief in mentioning Wreck-It Ralph topped Saturday night's winners with five awards, including Best Animated Picture. The awards have something like a 75% streak when it comes to helping predict the eventual Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature and as the days have gone on, it's looking more and more like Ralph will be this year's winner (see my predictions here). Pixar's Brave, Laika's ParaNorman and DreamWorks' Rise of the Guardians each took home two awards in lesser,...

If there is any topic of pop culture that makes me feel more nostalgic than, say, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it would have the be the 1985 film, The Goonies. Now, Nickelodeon’s new animated reboot series featuring the infamous young turtles is delivering something truly marvelous. It’s an impromptu Goonies reunion! That’s right, two actors from the cult classic are now voicing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
It has been a whopping 27 years since they shared the screen together, but this voice acting gig has brought back together actors Corey Feldman and Sean Astin.
Astin was Mikey, the lead protagonist of Goonies. Gollum also referred to him as the “stupid, fat, hobbit”, when he played LotR‘s Samwise Gamgee. According to TV Guide, Astin‘s new role is that of my personal favorite turtle, Raphael. You remember. He’s the one with the red mask and twin sai weapons.

I love the art of animation, and it's amazing to see how far things have come and advanced over the years. The industry is changing in terms of technology, but what it all really comes down to is telling good stories. There's been a lot of great animated movies this year, and many of them are up for several awards at the 40th Annual Annie Awards.
Some of the movies nomainated include Brave, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and Wreck-It Ralph. Out of those films my favorite is a toss up between Wreck-It Ralph and ParaNorman, those were two pretty incredible films. I think ParaNorman has the edge though.
Some of the other animated properties nominated are Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, Disney Tron: Uprising, Justice League: Doom, Robot Chicken ‘DC Comics Special', South Park ‘Raising the Bar’, and several others.

5. Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! Knock-Off Of: The Powerpuff Girls/Teen Titans Sporting one of the longest names in the cartoon buisness, Srmthfg was an absolute blast to watch as a kid. Mixing some pretty hefty violence with some lovable and crazy characters, the series was created by Teen Titans director Ciro Nieli and infused a lot of wit, action, and humor into its 52 episodes. Why It'd Be Successful Today: Because kids love manic energy and robots. Turning on Cartoon Network, you'll find dozens of cartoons that delve into weird, absurdist humor; and while Srmthfg never goes that far, it's funny enough and action-packed enough to sort of serve as a bridge between shows like that...ninja show thingy and Adventure Time. 4. Who doesn’t love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Nickeleodeon’s panel for the brand new iteration of the franchise may be Friday, but the Turtles came out of their shell on Thursday at Comic-Con.
Check out these photos of Leonardo, Donatello and Michaelangelo. These official costumes are very close to the artistic design of the new series. The new series is goes for a much lighter tone than the 2003 animated series and the 2007 film, the last time we saw the turtles.
The Tmnt panel will be Friday at 10:15Am. On hand to promote the show will be Jason Biggs (voice of Leonardo), Sean Astin (voice of Raphael), Greg Cipes (voice of Michelangelo), Rob Paulsen (voice of Donatello), Kevin Michael Richardson (voice of Shredder), Hoon Lee (voice of Splinter), and Mae Whitman (voice of April O’Neil). Also joining will be executive producer Ciro Nieli.

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

Rebooting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into CGI for the first time on the small screen, Nickolodeon will be bringing everyone’s favourite Turtles back to television later this year (in North America, and sometime next year internationally).
We saw an awesome set of images promoting the show at the New York Toy Fair earlier this year, and now EW have debuted the first trailer giving a look at the new season and its new take on the series.
Leonardo is voiced by Jason Biggs (American Pie); Raphael by Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings); Donatello by Rob Paulsen (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1987-1995); and Michaelangelo by Greg Cripes (Ultimate Spider-Man).
Joining them will be Hoon Lee as Master Splinter, Kevin Michael Richardson (The Cleveland Show) as Shredder, and Mae Whitman (Arrested Development – her?) as April.

In the Avengers: Emh Season Two teaser you've seen new characters such as Vision, Surtur, The Thing, Dr. Doom, etc. revealed to what I'm sure is nothing but delight. However, in this recent podcast with Marvel, Chris Yost lets it slip that another Marvel team will be featured in the second season as well. Here's a synopsis of the main highlights below: -He and Producer Joshua Fine mapped out an early storyboard for where they wanted to take the animated Avengers series early-on. -Similar to the first season, expect a ton of more Easter Eggs -The X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy will cameo [*we already knew about The Guardians but not the X-Men] -The Serpent Society was one of his favorite cameos in Season 1. Director and developer Ciro Nieli favors The Howling Commandos so expect to see more of them. -The foreshadowed plotlines from Season 1 will "explode" in Season 2.
