Exclusive: NBC earlier today announced that its sci-fi drama La Brea has been renewed for a third season. I have learned that the pickup is for six episodes and that it was influenced by the possibility of a writers and/or directors and actors strike, with this likely being the show’s final chapter. Filming is slated to begin in March in Australia.
With the current WGA contract expiring May 1 and the DGA and SAG-AFTRA contracts up June 30, a potential work stoppage could impact the start of production on the new broadcast season, leaving the networks without fresh episodes of scripted series for the first few weeks of the fall.
Possibly with that in mind, I hear NBC approached the cast of La Brea about doing a short third season. Because the series regulars have a 10-episode minimum guarantee (meaning that they have to be paid at least 10 episodic fees...

NBC’s time-hopping drama La Brea will continue into the future.
The network has picked up a third season of the sci-fi series from creator and showrunner David Appelbaum. The early renewal for La Brea on Tuesday comes a few hours before the series begins the back half of its 14-episode second season.
The series is averaging about 5.37 million viewers per episode (including a week of Nielsen-measured delayed viewing, but not including streaming) in season two, along with a 0.6 rating (equivalent to about 783,000 people) in the key ad demographic of adults 18-49. Those figures are down from 7.43 million and 0.9 for season one, when La Brea was the top new drama of 2021-22 in the 18-49 demo.
Natalie Zea and Eoin Macken head the cast as a couple separated after a massive sinkhole opens at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, transporting Zea’s Eve Harris and her son,...

Roswell, New Mexico's ending was out of this world—but it could have been even wilder. The CW's alien drama wrapped up its four-season run on Sept. 5, but showrunner Chris Hollier revealed what would have happened had the show been renewed for a fifth season, saying he wanted a "legacy ending" for Roswell's couples—time jumps included. "What does it mean when you start to find the people that you want to be with?" he explained to Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Sept. 5. "How do you actually go and generate your own happy ever after? I loved where we were going to take those characters. We were talking about setting the ending multiple...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “How’s It Going to Be?,” the Sept. 5 series finale of “Roswell, New Mexico.”
In May, The CW pulled the plug on seven shows, including “Roswell, New Mexico,” which was airing its fourth season. On Monday night, the drama aired its final episode — one that showrunner Chris Hollier and the writers planned on being the Season 4 finale, not the final episode ever.
During the last episode, Max (Nathan Parsons) headed off to save the world through portal — one that would allow him to return and live happily ever after with Liz (Jeanine Mason), who he still intended to eventually marry.
“There was one change afterwards where the console melted, and Liz would feel like, ‘Oh no, I just got engaged and maybe he’s trapped there forever.’ It was the only thing we removed,” he tells Variety, noting that...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Roswell, New Mexico series finale “How’s It Going to Be.”] For the most part, Roswell, New Mexico leaves its aliens and humans in a good place. The series finale saw the defeat of Clyde (Andrew Lees), Michael (Michael Vlamis) and Alex (Tyler Blackburn) getting married, and Liz (Jeanine Mason) and Max (Nathan Dean) finally get engaged. However, it also ended with Max leaving Liz behind (for now) to check on his home planet, with Dallas (Quentin Plair) — just as he and Maria (Heather Hemmens) got together — tagging along. Executive producer Chris Hollier breaks down the finale and teases what would’ve happened next. How would the season have ended if this hadn’t been the last one? Chris Hollier: There was one more scene after this potentially. There was a potential scene where Liz turned around and the console melted, so she was separated and stuck with no way for him ...

A wedding, an engagement and a journey to another planet — fans got all that and more in the series finale of “Roswell, New Mexico” on Monday night. And according to showrunner Chris Hollier, a lot of the night’s events were always the plan for the pod squad — except maybe Malex’s wedding.
Don’t worry, Michael Guerin (Michael Vlamis) and Alex Manes (Tyler Blackburn) were always meant for each other. Even Blackburn told TheWrap he’d have been “pissed” if the men didn’t get the ending they deserved. And indeed, Hollier told TheWrap this week that the “Roswell” writers “always knew there was a happy ending” for the pairing.
“We’d always talked about, like, the fact that we were starting Season 4 with a proposal, we expected people would have a wedding,” Hollier explained. “So how can we surprise them with what that wedding would be? And the answer was,...

Roswell, New Mexico‘s fourth season wasn’t originally supposed to be its last, but based on the events of Monday’s premiere, you’d have thought that was the plan all along.
Not only are everyone’s favorite small-town hotties standing at life-altering crossroads — including Max and Liz (almost!) getting engaged — but a trio of new extraterrestrial baddies introduced in the premiere are scheming to enact “the alighting,” an event the show has referenced with considerable dread for the past few seasons. “This year, we wanted to define what the alighting actually is,” executive producer Christopher Hollier tells TVLine.

Have you caught your breath yet?
Talk about one hell of a cliffhanger! Roswell, New Mexico Season 3 Episode 13 left viewers with a plethora of questions and Shiri Appleby! That's right, the Og Liz was on-screen, and the reveal gave me goosebumps!

There was a tremendous amount of information dumped on the audience throughout those two hours, with Roswell, New Mexico Season 3 Episode 12 being the softer of the two, with a greater focus on the quieter moments between characters.
Hour two was heavier on the action but still gave us some beautiful scenes as well.
When asked about the importance of including those moments into a science-fiction show, Hollier remarked, "It's very important. We always break from a place of character, right? And we were also looking too,...

Television has “been strained for some time,” citing a Twitter incident in which MacKenzie criticized UK distributor ITV over cutting a gay love scene from the broadcast of the show that led Warner Bros. to have to do “damage control” as a recent example. More broadly, the article states: “During her time on the show, she is said to have fostered a working environment that some say was rife with tension.”
Really, really, Really upset to hear that @itv cut out a (pretty tame) love scene between two men and kept a (much more raunchy) heterosexual sex scene in their airing of an episode of #RoswellNM tonight.

The big news keeps rolling in today, proving that just because the business has been waylayed due to the coronavirus response, it's still alive and kicking.
The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reports that there are big changes ahead for The CW's Roswell, New Mexico.
At least, behind the scenes.
Series creator, showrunner, and co-executive producer Carina Adley MacKenzie is out.
While it's up in the air as to what happened, historically, she has shown on social media that she's been unhappy with the process and wishes she had more control over her content from the writing to the editing amongst distributors.
There has also long been speculation of on-set tensions between the showrunner and the writing team as well as with her lead, most notably star, Jeanine Mason.
Whatever occurred with the cast on set was hushed, and after an Hr investigation, MacKenzie continued on in her multiple roles.

When Roswell, New Mexico returns to The CW for its third season, it’ll do so with a slightly different behind-the-scenes team.
“This week, I made the difficult decision to resign from my role on Roswell, New Mexico,” co-showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie tweeted on Friday. “I obviously don’t take this decision lightly, but ultimately due to fundamental differences, I’m departing and entrusting [Roswell, New Mexico] to capable hands. I’m so proud of what we built over the last two years, and I believe in the heart and soul of the show: asking tough questions, striving to make the world better,...

With two episodes of Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 remaining, we still have a lot of questions, and little in the way of answers.
Thankfully, the official promo for Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 12 teases that answers are on the horizon.
Our heroes have Noah, the fourth alien right where they want him, and it sure seems like he's ready to give some answers to the most burning questions.
Of those questions, it looks like we're going to learn why Max, Michael, and Isobel made their way to Earth all those years ago.
Related: Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 11 Review: Champagne Supernova
But it also appears that Noah will still be trying to manipulate his wife, Isobel. In one of the scenes from the teaser, he can be seen referring to her as "love."
That's odd, considering he wouldn't tell her he loved her on Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 11.

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 22, “Ashes to Ashes”
Written by Christopher Hollier and Diane Ademu-John
Directed by Matt Hastings
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals finale, the Mikaelson siblings take a stand against Dahlia, Davina resurrects Esther, Cami and Vincent discuss their lives, and Marcel seeks to protect himself.
For two seasons, The Originals‘s theme has been heavily focused on family, and this is extra apparent in “Ashes to Ashes” as the Mikaelson siblings–despite a heavy lack of trust and an excess of anger–team up to defeat a common enemy. With so much bad behavior by Klaus recently, it’s nice that the show isn’t letting him be redeemed so quickly or easily, and he’s finally being forced to face the consequences of his actions in the form of a broken family.

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 13, “The Devil is Damned”

On this week’s The Originals, Freya reunites with Finn, Klaus and Kol make amends, Hope displays some impressive new abilities, and Hayley and Jackson fight to protect their werewolves from Marcel’s starving vampires.
Whenever The Originals focuses heavily on the show’s titular characters and their relationships to one another, the result is usually an excellent episode. “The Devil is Damned” really delves into the relationship between Klaus and Kol, and, unsurprisingly, the episode is stunning and emotional.
Daniel Sharman, undeniably one of season two’s best additions, easily steals the episode. Kol’s struggle to reconcile the part of himself that fears Klaus with the part that loves his brother is a very human and sympathetic plight; Sharman makes Kol...

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 7, “Chasing the Devil’s Tail”
Written by Carina Adly MacKenzie and Christopher Hollier
Directed by Jesse Warn
Airs Mondays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Klaus spends time with his biological father, Davina and Kol experiment with magic, Hayley teams with Marcel and Cami to capture Finn, and Elijah remains incapacitated.
While “Chasing the Devil’s Tail” is by no means a bad episode, it’s not a particularly stunning one, either. Rather than significantly advance the plot, the episode mainly sets up future, and probably more eventful, episodes. Character relationships are deepened or fundamentally shifted, and several key players are moved into new, more dangerous locations.
Probably the most disappointing aspect of the season so far is the storyline involving Klaus’s biological father. While Klaus is clearly psychologically scarred by daddy issues, his father’s two-episode stint does...

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 3, “Every Mother’s Son”

Airs Mondays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Esther plans a dinner with her sons, Hayley helps a witch, and Marcel convinces Elijah to train his new lackey.
The majority of “Every Mother’s Son” is a set-up for future episodes, and the episode is pretty good for what it ultimately is. A lot of grade-a decisions are made during the hour that’ll only make future episodes better and more compelling. The Originals, Season 1, Episode 17, “Moon Over Bourbon Street”
Written by Michelle Paradise and Christopher Hollier

Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Elijah struggles to keep the peace in New Orleans, Klaus busies himself with painting and a redheaded witch, Hayley breaks her family’s curse, Davina heals, and Marcel quietly plots his return to power.

If anything, the story’s tighter than it’s been in weeks, and everyone is given a purpose in the episode. He calls together a meeting of the heads of the families - er, factions. Genevieve for the witches; Diego for the vampires; Kieran for the humans; and Elijah for the Originals. THR has confirmed that Australian actress Holt is indeed departing the show as a series regular although the door remains open for her to return as a guest star, potentially reprising her role as early as later this season or during the show's sophomore run.
Rebekah first appeared early in the third season of "The Vampire Diaries" in the 2011 episode "The End of the Affair," prompting an expanded presence on that series and leading to her landing the co-lead on "The Originals" with Joseph Morgan as Klaus and Daniel Gillies as Elijah. Holt has played the character for more than 50 episodes.
