Remaking established properties under a new vision is common in Hollywood. However, seeing a beloved modern classic get that treatment so quickly has become a problem for many stories. Despite The Talented Mr. Ripley only reaching its 25th anniversary this year, Steve Zaillian adapts Patricia Highsmith’s novel once again. Netflix’s new series, simply titled Ripley, follows the plot of the novel in more detail. Gone are the sun-soaked villas of Italy in favor of sterilized black-and-white photography. The slow and methodical series dips into the exacting and careful actions of a psychopath. Andrew Scott’s Tom is not fun. Instead, he’s a calculating murderer and destroyer. The result is a very different, but rewarding take on the iconic character.

Emma (Dakota Fanning) reports to Frank what is happening in Italy in Columbia Pictures The Equalizer 3. Photo by: Stefano Montesi Dakota Fanning worked with Denzel Washington early in her career, when she was his 10-year-old co-star in the film Man on Fire. Ever since, Fanning said she’s been a fan of his work — not to mention a family friend — so she was well aware of Washington’s two prior The Equalizer films. Because of that, she was thrilled to join him for The Equalizer 3. Denzel Washington stars as Robert McCall in Columbia Pictures The Equalizer 3. Photo by: Stefano Montesi Nearly 20 years ago, Denzel Washington starred in a movie called Man on Fire, and his co-star was 9-year-old Dakota Fanning. Flash forward to today, and the two of them are co-starring in another film, The Equalizer 3.” Except this time, of course, Fanning is no longer a child — she’s 29 years old and an established Hollywood veteran. When we spoke to Washington about working with Fanning again, he told us it felt odd to see his old co-star in a new light. Director Antoine Fuqua still remembers his first day on set with his now-five-time star Denzel Washington. It was early 2001, one of the first days of production on “Training Day,” which would eventually garner Washington his second Oscar (and co-star Ethan Hawke his first Oscar nomination). Fuqua was eager to show Washington and Hawke some of the day’s footage, but Washington demurred. As Fuqua recalls, Washington assured the director, making only his third film, that he was the one “flying this plane.”
It’s an experience Fuqua hasn’t forgotten — that moment of a master like Washington assuring the filmmaker that he trusted him and was down to honor his vision — and one that has guided the pair through five films, including the three-film franchise “The Equalizer.” The duo wrap the series with this week’s “The Equalizer 3,” which sees Washington’s vigilante Robert McCall taking his particular set...

To enjoy the (allegedly) final entry in Antoine Fuqua’s “The Equalizer” trilogy, it’s not at all crucial to understand the particulars of how former Marine and intelligence operative Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) lands in Italy for this latest outing. It’s safe to assume the vigilante is there to kick some bad-dude butt, with more convoluted revelations to come. Wherever Robert McCall lands, even a luxurious private winery, there are villains afoot for him to kill off in the most gruesome manners, details be damned.
And “The Equalizer 3” opens with Robert skulking around said winery, offing dark-clad mercenary types, and apparently setting right some sort of horrible injustice. As we might expect, he gets much more than he bargained for — and so will fans of Fuqua’s brutal action series, which closes out in fine style.

Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) leaves the farm in Sicily with what he came for in Columbia Pictures The Equalizer 3. Photo by: Stefano Montesi Having originally started its life as an ’80s television series, The Equalizer has had a remarkably strong run. Of course, the show was rebooted for TV, having aired three new seasons so far. And it was also adapted into a film series, with installments released in 2014 and 2018. Now, director Antoine Fuqua has finished a third movie, one that will reportedly wrap up the trilogy. The Equalizer 3, Fuqua say this is a film that was made with the franchise’s fans first and foremost in his mind. A kidnapping in Rome sets off events that have all three “FBI” teams banding together in a three-hour event on Tuesday, April 4. Jeremy Sisto’s character, special agent Jubal Valentine, jets from the New York Field office to Italy to help out “FBI: International” star Scott Forrester, who’s played by Luke Kleintank. Meanwhile, Stuart Scola (John Boyd) goes undercover and teams up with Remy Scott (Dylan McDermott) of “FBI: Most Wanted” to stop a mass-casualty terror attack in New York City.
Ahead of the episode, Sisto told TheWrap what to expect from Jubal being a “fish out of water” overseas without his usual team around him, his theory on why his character speaks Italian, and which actor he’d like to play Jubal’s Italian grandfather should a future storyline require it.
The crossover starts with “FBI: International,” then segues back to “FBI,” finishing with the Fugitive Task Force on “FBI: Most Wanted.
